Cassie, it sounds to me like you're doing a great job with your daughter... you're teaching her the importance of privacy and safety! I just wanted to say that it will get better... your daughter will learn. Don't worry about venting, that's what we're here for!

BTW, I'll bet you burned at least 150 calories yesterday!

No formal exercise yesterday, but I walked 3 city blocks at a break neck speed while restraining my daughter who was acting out in a grocery store (she is pubescent and has special needs so she has been exposing her breasts or touching her self and announcing it in public. It has been very stressful (to say the least.) So all I know is that I was dripping with sweat and out of breath by the time I by the time I reached the car.

I checked under "other cardio" activites and they had nothing listed for parent making a great escape with a misbehaving child in 90 degree temps with 100% humidity...you do the math!

Its a little better today. She barely tantrumed this morning while she was getting ready. Before she left for school we read the section of a book for kids with autism explaining about touching or exposing "private" parts only when home in the bedroom or bathroom...she doesn't have autism, but this book is a very good resource. I have to make it not aabout me denying her this glorious act of touching and announcing her that she has a vagina and boobs in public, but that it is a issue of good health and safety and socialization.

P.S. She ran outside in her bra and undrwear. I am by no means a prude and want my child to have a healthy and loving relationship with her body, but this stage of development in a special needs child is nearly killing me.

Thanks if you've made it this far and for letting me vent.

I walked again... thought to use my old corn covers, and they are totally protecting my feet, so I can keep going.
Today- saw deer, wild turkey, lizards, and a rattler. Nice day.

Today I've had a great exercise day (for me). emoticon I did strength training (circuit/supersets) for 25 minutes (200 cals), did a run/walk for 47 minutes (436 cals), then pulled weeds for 1 hour (192 cals). So today I've burned 828 cals. Add that to 2865 and my total is 3693 cals for the challenge!

I burned 3717 calories through Saturday... I'm a lazy bum, and am going to post the week that Spark adds up for me.
Now I've hit a temporary wall. My shoes are totally giving out on me.... I tend to roll to the outside, and I 'sort of' noticed some hot spots, but they got much worse last week. I'm going to have to go buy a new pair of shoes. Have to wait until the check comes.
I need to do biking in the meanwhile. I sat in my room on Sunday, pouting. 0 on Sunday. Eek. What's so hard about carrying my bike though the house, down the stairs, and out the gate? Hmm? It's momentarily hot in the bay, and I'm feeling lazy.
Now that I've said all this... it's about time to grab the bike and go.
Funny how my exercises kind of rotate. I was biking all the time for a while... then off it for a while.

I don't think I'll be doing that....but happy to take a closer look at exercise. I like getting input from you guys and seeing how strong and active you are. I feel patient with the goal of increasing exercise, but would definitely like to get exercise to become more and more a vital part of my life.

Uh, are we doing this on a hit 3500 basis? And say multiple of pounds burned? We seem to have different start dates.. or something. I'm only listing cardio, cause that's what Spark does calories burned on.

Tonight I taught my Step Class at the Y for an hour and that was all that my legs could handle. My left knee was giving me twinges too so I opted to not run the 3 miles that I was going to also do on the treadmill. I don't want to overtrain!

Tonight was 517 calories.

Today- 121 minutes, '980' calories burned. 1 hour hill hiking with my Nordic trek sticks (love my sticks), one hour dancing and walking around Lake Merritt. Wow, today was gorgeous!
(And, really- I've been Sparking for 2 years- I know I do a lot right now- but I started with baby steps... like, Dec 06 I couldn't walk more than a block... so I really, really, really know how starting where you are works! Yeah, US!)

Thanks for joining in Mare. I have noticed that you record your fitness.

You're really active!

This thread is definitely helping me with thinking more about my activity level. And even though it might not seem like a lot I am choosing to move and walk knowing that I have a specific goal and deadline.

Oh, oh, I like reporting my exercises... I don't really trust Spark Peoples 'calories burned', cause they just have 'hiking hills' but no speed. Urk. So, if I post what they say, it probably makes me look better than I am.
Still- I'll do it. I'll report my minutes in here daily. I'm about to do another hike today, so I'll enter it later on tonight.
There is something about telling a group everyday how many minutes or calories that sometimes gets me off my butt. Ahh, accountability!

O.k. I think I got a hang of what to do...I'll enter my exercise under add cardio and then just report the totals here. I finally know what to click to get the info I need. This challenge is good for me becasue it has forced me to learn the exercise applications here. So my running total is:

185 minutes and 1401 calories.

It is beginning to add upemoticon

Spark does take into consideration your weight when calculating your calories burned because when I was using their system and I would lower my weight as I was losing it would retroactively lower my previously entered exercise!

Today 8/3 I taught a Butts&Guts class for 56 minutes and burned 484 calories on the HRM

I was actually reading your and saw that you teach. I'm impressed and would love to see you post your minutes and calories...I am sure they are impressive.

Here's my first entry:

Walking 30 mins 183 cals (uphill 1.5 miles 30 mins)
Stationary bike 15 mins 194 cals (15 mins 3.4 miles)
Belly Dance aerobics 40 mins 417 cals

Total 794 for 85 mins exercise.

I am going to use the following site because you an enter your height and weight and then the calories are calculated. I am not sure if that is taken into consideration here at Spark People (anybody know?)

I want to get credit for my 245lb body doing this work.

Fair warning - I teach fitness classes at the Y and I'm also training for the Pelotonia - a 180 mile 2 day bike ride. I was out riding yesterday for over 4 hours and with mowing the grass I burned over 3000 calories :)

I found this at another board and thought I would like to try it. I don't do a lot in terms of exercise recording, but wouldlike to start. I thought this would be a good way since challenges seem to motivate me. I will post my daily (hopefully) cardio activites, the amount of time and keep a running total of calories burned. Lets see if I can do 3500 minutes in 9 days.
I'd welcome anyone who would like to join me and as many cheerleaders as possible.

Burn a Pound Challenge aug 3-12
Over nine days we are going to burn one pound, that’s 3500 cals. That’s a bit of cardio! You may burn it in any way you wish. Do you want to run? Run! Would you enjoy a long walk? Walk! How about pool calisthenics? You go! It’s your choice it’s your cardio. This will include “Other Activities” found in the cardio log in section. Vigorous house cleaning? Clean!
