How was the weather for Spud's birthday, JEN?

Did he enjoy his "volcano" party? Or was it too cold for the hula garb? If the drum band got caught in a storm, you can always include their adventure in your novel. Happy birthday to your adorable son?

Hi all on the Party Loop,

I mentioned on one of the other loops that it might be fun to have a talk/party using headphones and webcams. Skype would be great for the audio and I know it can handle a group of people. It doesn't handle groups for video though, so I recently found www.mebeam.com which allows group videos and audio. So we could do Skype for the audio and Mebeam for the video. I keep saying Meebo for Mebeam, but Mebeam is the right website. Meebo was what SP used before.

I haven't tried the group capabilities of these tools, but it would be fun to try a party/chat there!

Everyone is busy this time of year, so we should set a day & hour maybe early December or in January and have an "open house" where anybody on our message board can come if they want. Let's think of a good date...

It would be great to "see" some of you. I do Skype with my French professor in France and it's like he's right across the table from me. Pretty neat.

So think about a good time to have a good time emoticon and we'll do it!

WELCOME to my “GOAL-MET HALLOWEEN PARTY”. I did NOT reach my SparkPeople Goal Weight today, as I predicted I would, back in July. So, I have shot myself in the foot, I guess. As far as I know, no bullets ricocheted off any innocent bystanders, though. So, it’s not really a requirement that I tell myself, “Fork ME! I’ll never smile again.”

My big announcement that I would reach the goal this week seemed like a good idea at the time. I’m sure the people who go on the Oprah show, swearing before millions to go hungry forever, think they’re onto a foolproof plan, too. Then, they end up, returning to the show in a bikini, with a long cape to hide the pounds they didn’t lose or they quietly never appear again.

I have NOW learned that putting oneself under that kind of stress by setting up constraints and expectations can be asking for trouble. When a person gets panicky about scales, dietary restrictions and deadlines, the body starts pumping out hormones to keep the person from starving to death, which isn’t the state of mind one needs, to lose weight permanently and peacefully It’s tough to trick Mother Nature, isn’t it?

I weigh 165.2, and I will get to my SparkPeople goal when I get there. Now, let’s party..

Here's my NEW favorite song.
www.youtube.com/watch?v=xvoL1yKIYcs
Ignore the objectionable racist lyrics. That's not the part I like.

WAIT A MINUTE NOW! If I didn’t reach my SparkPeople Goal weight, “WHAT are we CELEBRATING?”, you ask.

FIRST, it’s only a number, an estimate, not really a crime to miss it. So, what?
SECOND, we’re celebrating the fact that I FEEL like I’m WINNING.

I’ve spent my share of time in diet hell. There have been times when all I could think about was food and weight. Those days are long gone. There were times when I was out-of-control and bingeing with food, my drug of choice. Those days are long gone. There were days when I was in pain and couldn’t exercise and didn’t ever want to, either. Those days are long gone. There were times when I lost large numbers of pounds with willpower you would not believe, and then I would regain it all and more. I catch glimpses of myself in family movies, weighing a whole lot more than I do now and I want to hug myself.

That was then, and this is now. Nothing about me will ever be perfect, and that’s fine. Life is more to me than a grueling weight-loss project. I dance several times a week. I’m learning to play piano, something I had always WANTED to do. My house is staying clean enough that friends can visit any time. One more room and a basement is all that’s left to de-clutter. Life is much easier and more fun.

Under stress, fatigue and scrutiny, I experience traces of my old mindset and habits, but they’re weaker than they used to be. The longer I continue to do this SparkPeople thing with so many good friends that I wouldn’t have otherwise met, the more I think I COULD BE CHANGING THE WAY MY BRAIN WORKS. I’d say, there’s PLENTY to CELEBRATE!

Party ON!

Now, where are those jello-wrestlers? CASSIE? ROYALETBONE?

LALA, you are so good at trying NEW things. Yesterday, I was at the music store with my husband and I saw a list of classes.

One was for adults who have always wanted to play the piano. I signed up. My classes start Sept 24th. No more procrastination on that one. I'm excited.

I have a bit of a sew-in kitchen as well, except that my sewing machine hasn't seen any action for a year or so...

So, yep, I was too tired last night to take down the decorations and the band just crashed on the pullout sofa, so we're still good to go.

Today I'm trying to finish up the house cleaning. My mum-in-law is coming to grandkitty sit while we are gone, and if I don't straighten up she'll spend her entire vacation scrubbing my house for me! As it is she's going to re-mop my crappy mopping job and scrub the bathrooms, no matter what I do...

We can always count on you for fun, LALA! Smarts go a long way. We look to you as we navigate our oceans of wisdom and joy in the current age.
emoticon emoticon
I think we should continue to celebrate until you leave for Atlanta. We can sneak in here and escape for a few minutes when we're bored, tired or whatever. So, can you leave the decorations in place? We can always throw on some music & dance.

I didn't have quite as much of an adventure as I led you to believe yesterday. CASSIE, you're right. The fingerprinting was for a government job screening in 2001.

I spent most of yesterday atop a ladder, washing spider webs off the outside of second-story windows (I'm not a second-story burglar, either). It was worth it. The windows look great. I think I'll invest in a long-handled squeegee next time.

Today, my eldest daughter will have a truck pick up an antique bed that my husband's grandparents picked up in a wagon on their wedding day. (They married on 27 April 1902.)

I need the space more than I need the bed. My sewing machine can go in that room, instead of in the "eat-in" kitchen. It has been kind of a "sew-in" kitchen, tough to keep clean.

Congrats, LALA! You have made fabulous progress this year. You've got it GOIN' ON! I love it that you're always trying new things. I love it that you keep adding reasons, in blog-form as you think of them, why you are working to get healthier. You're smart, supportive, insightful, just kooky enough to enjoy life, and have a great sense of humor. You've lost plenty of weight this year. You'll have a much better time at the glorious DragonCon geekfest this year than you did last year.

I won't make my Halloween goal of 130 because I aimed high, like you did. But, like you, I will be proud of the accomplishments I have made and will make by then. I will get as close as I can by our Halloween celebration. And afterwards, I'll keep it going until I get to my goal. We'll both git 'er done!

Thanks for the partay and for the introduction to Jonathon Coulton and to Arc Attack. Here's your virtual hug. You are a wonderful friend.

Try to stay out of trouble when you and the husband celebrate your 10th together. I bought mine a heart rate monitor for our anniversary (how romantic---LOL) so we can take walks and compare heart rates. Actually, I want to keep him alive as long as possible (he's 6 yrs older than I am & diabetic).

CASSIE, you get the links to be links much like you add emoticons. It took me a while to figure it out.

There's a box that says "add a link" between the "spell check" and "add an emoticon" boxes. Click on it.

It opens up and provides a box to enter your http address. Click on the "add a link" box next to the address you add. It takes you back to your unposted message, like the emoticon thing does. Then post your message as usual.

Here's the one you posted earlier.

Great song, Lala. Thanks for sharing your story. What a year...I am so very proud of you. So wonderful that you can see and celbrate all your progress.

I have some good news today. My Dr. decreased my blood pressure medication yet again today. He took away one pill when I saw him in July and now he cut what I am currently taking in half. And it is all due to my healthier eating and weight loss. woohoo.

So I am here dressed in my alien outfit.

Here's a song that's fun to dance to:

I'm Jessica Rabbit today... just a sexy thing! Thanks for inviting me and congratulations on your turn-around in the last year!

I'm here to help you celebrate your happiness and general success in life! Over here at the virtual snack table I'm having some chocolate cake and donuts (both of which are available to me right now at work). I think I'll have some virtual wine while I'm at it... it'll help take the edge off of the social issues I have.

I'm dancing and having a great time! It sure does help to have a glass of wine!

Hey folks! The party can go on all day, just stop on in and tell us about your costume. Since it's virtual and I don't have to worry about the Florida (or Atlanta) heat, I'm in Victorian steampunk gear. I'll run out and see if I can find a picture to link to.

I'm still feeling rather under the weather - sinus/allergy thing lead to vertigo lead to... I dunno, exhaustion or crapitude - but I'll crank up the music and get virtually drunk enough that I won't notice the dizzy spells!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

So, even though I did not meet my goal by today, as planned, I still have reason to celebrate. One year ago I was, as now, preparing for our trip to Dragoncon in Atlanta, the first week of September. I weighed 280 pounds and had no idea that in another few weeks I would weigh another 10+ pounds heavier and lose my ever-lovin' mind. By mid-October my anxiety and depression had gotten completely out of control and I was in an almost constant binge state.

During that mess I attended my 20th year high school reunion and was so strung out that, despite drinking myself silly, I couldn't even get drunk enough to not be completely...horrified with myself.

Well, anyway, at that point my oldest friend helped me through and pushed me in a better direction. I got the anxiety and depression under control (with some non-alcoholic chemical assistance). After a few weeks, I started to lose some pounds naturally, and decided to start taking care of myself. I came back to SparkPeople.

Today I am celebrating being at least 30 pounds, maybe 40, lighter than I was one year ago. Except for my current bout of loner-ish withdrawal (I go through phases) I am really happy right now and am taking pretty good care of myself. My 10th wedding anniversary is in 9 days. I'm bummed that I've had to drop my Astronomy minor, but at least that means I'll be able to graduate within about a year instead of having to wade through two to three more years.

Life is good. Let's dance!

So, I am not nor will I be anywhere near my goal (230 lbs) by August 31st, but I figure what the frell, let's have a par-tay anyway! I will post something nice to kick things off, as I still have a lot of great progress and experiences from this past year of healthy-making to celebrate.

It's a costumed geek rave in honor of my impending trip to Dragoncon www.dragoncon.org . Wear your favorite costume and be prepared to shake, shake, shake your bootay. There will be an open virtual bar, so drink up, the drinks are credit-free and calorie-free. It will also be virtual-cheat day, so belly on up to the Star Trek style food dispenser and enjoy all of the calorie-free, completely well-balanced snacks you've been wishing for.

Throughout the day I will try to post some video links to the oddball little musical group who will be entertaining us, called Arc Attack. There may also be a special appearance by my favorite geek filker, Jonathan Coulton. It's the event of the season, and all of your favorite hotties will be in attendance, so don't hesitate to walk right up to someone and introduce yourself. In my world, no one is stuck up or rude! So sayeth the dalai lala!!

Can you tell that I've been medicated for a couple of days.... I need another nap...

Ok, I've been thinking about my party on November 16. The weather around here will be pretty miserable, it's my son's birthday and he has already told me he wants a "volcano" party, so we're going with....a tropical theme!

Wear your best hula garb. Our local steel drum band will provide the music. Tons of pineapple, mango, bananas and coconut to go around. Great time will be had by all!

22 weeks and 22 pounds to go!

Hi, gang!

I thought I'd better update you all on my progress, just so you know I'm still on the job. I'll be excited to hear how you're all doing.

UPDATE---Weekly losses, Starting Weight on 4/15/2009, 184.6
4/22/2009, Wednesday--lost 2 lbs
5/1/2009, Friday---lost 2.4 lbs
5/8/2009, Friday...lost 1.6 lbs
5/15/2009, Friday...lost 2.2 lbs
5/22/2009, Friday---lost 2 lbs
5/29/2009, Friday---lost 1 lb
6/5/2009, Friday---lost .6 lb
6/12/2009, Friday---lost .8 lb
6/19/2009, Friday---next weigh-in

172 lbs today (down 12.6 in 8 weeks)--10 more and I won't have to put "obese" on medical forms.
172 - 130 = 42 lbs left to lose by Halloween (20 weeks from now). I need an average of 2.1 lbs per week from that scale.

The weight in the last 3 weeks hasn't changed much. The scale will eventually get the message that I'm taking care of business on my end, and it needs to get with the program. During those 3 weeks I've lost 1 inch from bust, 1 inch from hips, and 2 inches from waist. The weight will start to come off at a faster clip soon.

Here's how today went for me with food. Total calories, 1490 (my range is 1200 to 1550).

Light breakfast:
coffee,
South Beach Chocolate Meal Replacement bar,
1/2 cup of red raspberries

I was at a fashion show luncheon today (lah-de-dah) and a fish fry tonight (baked cod, coleslaw, 1 potato pancake). The lunch menu was chicken crepes & blended wild rice, assorted specialty rolls, mocha layer trifle, washed down with a bloody mary. At lunch, I ate half of each thing (just a bite of a roll) and drank all of the Mary.

late-afternoon: South Beach Peanut butter Snack Bar, Hot Green Tea.

No deprivation. Lots of fun. And I'm still going to lose weight. I don't eat stuff like this OFTEN because I actually like my healthier meals better.
(I ran the SparkPeople Nutrition Feedback Report on my tracker to see how close I came to meeting my nutritional goals for the day, out of curiosity. I met all except sodium, folate and fiber. I was over by 161 mg of socium. I was under by 82g of folate and 13g of fiber.)

I stopped at a park on the way home from lunch (spur of the moment decision), put on my gym shoes (gym bag is usuallly in the car), and took a 2-mile hike thru a bog garden wearing cross trainers and a dress. It was a beautiful sunny day.

Since my goal reached party (August 31st) is in honor of DragonCon, the biggest scifi/fantasy/comic/pop culture convention in the US, my party will be a costume party - come as your favorite fictional character or personal costume. The music will be provided by a group called Arc Attack - look them up on YouTube, they do midi-music played on two smallish Tesla coils. They do a geek rave every year at DCon, and it's amazing.

More details to follow, and of course everyone is invited!

How about any weekday the last week of July? The 29th if all things are equal. On that day I shall weight UNDER 150. Might be 149.99, but that's just fine with me!

I'm so glad you can make it for HALLOWEEN, JEN! We'll have to come up with a really special costume idea for you.

I have marked you down for NOV 16...for a HAPPY "MOM MET HER GOAL" BIRTHDAY PARTY! We'll have to have lots of BALLOONS, for starters. 3-yr-olds love balloons. Any special music that you both enjoy? We have lots of time to work out the details. Just be thinking about what would really make you both smile?

I know it means a lot to you to be a good example for your son, and to help him grow up with healthy habits. We both know that healthy habits go a long way toward insuring a happy life. What better gift on a little boy's birthday than MOM AT HER GOAL WEIGHT?!!!

These are "happy" tears. Just think! When your son turns 3, you & I will both be at our SP goals.

I would like to reserve the room for November 16! My goal is to be at 135 pounds by then. It is my son's third birthday, and I want to make it one that where we can both celebrate!

And Boo, consider this my RSVP to your party! I love Halloween and what a better reason to celebrate than reaching your goals! Whoo hoo! You will do it!

Setting a specific date for reaching my SP goal is my way of making SOMEDAY into NOW.

I am eating between 1200 and 1550 per day and doing some form of exercise every day. Drinking my water, too.

Staying motivated with positive self-talk & paying attention to what I'm eating.

I watch what the healthy people who are already at healthy weights do, and that guides my choices.

I am tired of letting the date when I'll be at goal
just drift out there in the distance. I'm making
whatever tough choices I have to, in order to
make it happen by Oct 31.

I'D LOVE THE COMPANY, IF SOMEONE ELSE WANTS TO PICK A DATE TO REACH A GOAL, I'LL BE HERE TO SUPPORT & BE SUPPORTED.

By putting my butt on the line and making my goal date public, I feel more strongly about sticking with my plan, one day at a time.

Running total of weekly losses:
Starting at 184.6
Wk#1---2 lbs, wk ending 4/24
wk#2---2.4 lbs, wk ending 5/1
wk#3---1.6 lbs, wk ending 5/8
wk#4---2.2 lbs, wk ending 5/15
wk#5---2 lbs, wk ending 5/22

I'm half considering making a new costume over the summer, but I'm also trying to work full-time while I can and am starting a writing project too, so... Maybe I'll look for a seamstress and at least get my "wench" costume taken in a bit.

Do you need new costume suggestions, LALA? Or maybe a seamstress for alterations? A baggy costume that's two sizes too big just won't do!

I would like to reserve the Partay Room for August 31st. That's just a few days before my hubby and I head up to Atlanta, Georgia for the fabulous geekfest that is DragonCon. My goal is 30 pounds, though that will probably make me too small to actually wear any of my current costumes. Darn, what a problem to have...

I'll have to think about the party planning and see what I want to do. Everyone is invited!

Yes, VIOLETTE, if a Halloween party weren't a Costume Party, it would be a MISSED OPPORTUNITY. You're part of the challenge group that started it all. You MUST be at the party.

I'm looking for costume ideas. I want to look GOOD for my goal weight photo session.

OK, I've decided. OCT 31 is the date I want to reserve the PARTY ROOM AND GROUNDS to celebrate my having reached my SP goal of 130.

We'll go with a SPOOKTACULAR THEME, since I'm BOO.
It's a natural. And I'm an ITCH with a W.
emoticon
We can use fall colors. Spiders & bats, too. You don't think it'll be too cold for the jello wrestling, do you?

Oh, look at these cute little tassels. Oh...no...I guess they're...yes, they're little witch hats. That's fine. We'll find a use for them.

As soon as I get my dates firmed up, I would like to start on the rest of the planning.

I'm starting the guest list now:
I'll want to invite everyone on THIS team, for sure.
ROYALETBONE has rsvp'ed,
(We definitely have to include jello wrestling.
She's challenged me to a match.)
CASSIES wants to wrestle, too.
The more, the merrier.
Anyone else who wants to jump in is welcome.

This is a full-service party room. We can help with guest lists, decorations, music, food, drinks, whatever you need, to properly celebrate the momentous occasion of reaching your SparkPeople goal weight.

The FIRST thing we need to do is BOOK THIS ROOM for the appropriate DATE. We can work on the other details with less urgency.

For ME, I'm thinking, no earlier than OCT 17, no later than NOV 23. What dates are YOU looking at for yours?

It can be for the BIG ONE, the final SP GOAL,
or any goal in between.

Celebrate reaching your challenge goals, cruise goals, reunion goals, wedding goals...the list is endless. Choose a date and a weight you'll be on that date, and reserve this room for your party. We'll help with the rest.
