Just finished a one mile walk, without stopping. For me, that's a big deal. 3000 steps already today! I've upped my daily goal to 7500 (from 5000). Let's do this!

Today was a repeat of yesterday. However, the dogs did better. I thought we walked faster but not according to the clock.
Another nice short 11 minute walk.

I started today as a practice walk. Wasn't sure if my 2 dogs would walk together comfortably. I think with practice we will be fine. Today was my little dogs 1st walk.

I'm starting out real slow. But we did get in 11 mins. A super short walk.

Good morning. I haven't started walking yet. Starting Feb 1st I plan to walk my dogs daily for 5 min for week 1. week 2 I plan to increase 2-3 mins and every week there after. By 12 weeks I should be up to 30 min. And hopefully I will be able to breathe easier.

Steph I hope u r still walking. U have come a long way. Keep up the good work.

I've been getting my walks in, but forgetting to post here. This morning was a short dog walk. Last night was a bigger walk in the grocery story. And, yes, I count that, because, up til very recently, I had to use an electric scooter in stores.

Walked yesterday in an empty parking lot. Only 6 minutes, but that is a start. Next walk is scheduled for Sunday. I plan to walk in the park beside theater where I am to see a play that afternoon.

I used to walk a lot for transportation and for fun. My longest walk was about 27 miles spread out over two days. Unfortunately, health issues and a geographical move (along with their accompanying lifestyle changes), have caused me to become less and less active. I was always a very large woman, but, until 2008 (when I had a third open heart surgery to deal with damage from a birth defect) I was very active. For a few months before and after that surgery, I was confined to using an electric scooter. Even once I started walking again, I was very limited by atrophied muscle mass and lack of stamina. No breath. Over the years since then, I have worked at getting healthier but, truly, didn't work hard enough and then the move put me in a region where not driving was no longer an option, so I walked even less. I never got better.

Then, a few months ago when I was diagnosed with borderline diabetes and NASH induced cirrhosis within a couple weeks of each other. (There was also a cancer scare, but that turned out to be a false alarm, thank goodness!) Since then, I have gotten serious about getting fit. I have lost about 35 pounds through diet and exercise.

Which brings me to the question at hand-- Am I walking?

Not much, because, for some reason, walking is much harder for me than swimming, biking, yoga, dancing, and strength training (all of which I have been doing for several months now). But I *want* to walk. I *need* to walk. And today is the day it starts.

I had intended to get up this morning and hit the mall for walking time, but then remembered I have to drive to a doc appointment later today. To cut down on trips out with the car, I have decided to walk later on today, combining tasks. I plan to do only 5 minute stretches for this week and will walk three times in the next week. I'll report back here after it's done. That should help to keep me accountable.

So, today, I will walk at least one five-minute stretch without stopping to rest. I will walk in the mall across from my doctor's office.

So where do you walk? Outdoors usually just around town or on one of our community walking trails
.
Do you park at the far end of the parking lot? Not usually but I try to park half way.

Do you walk in the malls? Whenever possible, but it is over 20 miles to my closest mall, so I don't get many chances.

What are you doing to get your 10,000 steps in per day ? No, but I do try to get at least 5000 daily.
