Thanks! I will look into a raincoat and pants. My walking shoes are pretty waterproof. :)

Just walk.
I have a good hat that is waterproof and some times if it is too cold will wear a beanie under it.
This year I invested money and bought a good rain coat that fits over my other clothing and rain pants.
And I broke down and paid more money and bought water proof shoes -- I call them running shoes because I don't know technical terms - but they are neither running or hiking shoes - they are just shoes

I would like to put out a call to all experienced outdoor walkers for advice. This is the first year that I've tried to walk outdoors through all weather. Do you have any tips or tricks for walking in cold or inclement weather? Any advice is much appreciated!

I was sore today from yesterdays activity, and tired from my long day at work. However, I still made myself walk, and it felt great. I am glad I mustered up the energy and strength to move. I know I will have no problem sleeping tonight. emoticon

I took a walk today. It was one of the Walk-away-the-pounds walks, and I am starting to feel it. Both in my muscles and my energy level. I am looking forward to tomorrows walk.

Now that I am back in Canada - I must get back into the routine of walking. However I only have about two weeks left of work before I move back to the city and then the dog walks begin.

the mornings are dark - the evenings are dark and the rains are coming --- but we must walk on.
however the afternoons are the best time to walk and I would say that Autumn is the best time to get out side to enjoy the colors and last tastes of summer

Walking everyday - is a forgone conclusion. I have Dalhouise and he makes me go outside for a walk.
How far we walk is the real issue.
Now with my new lifestyle choice to walk 10,000 steps per day. I am over walking Dalhouise he is so tired by the time we return home.

Today was the 46th day that I have walked. Tomorrow we are supposed to have rain, sleet and snow so it will be an interesting walk. I find a certain solace in getting fresh air and walking outside, but I think the idea of walking indoors may be a better choice in inclement weather. I am very stubborn and sometimes that gets me into situations that would be best to avoid..
I think as we age, exercise becomes more important because it is so easy to sit in a cozy house. It is my goal to walk through the winter. I would like to say a year, but first I have to get through the winter season.
There will always be obstacles, it is how we respond to them that is so important. Never, never, give up! emoticon

Hi and welcome to the team emoticon

Smile .... it makes people wonder what you're up to ;-)

The fourth glass of wine is always a good idea before you do it and a really bad idea afterward! ;-)

It is far easier to MAKE time to exercise than it is to FIND time to exercise. You want results???? MAKE it happen.

I like to walk in my family room with Leslie Sansone DVD when the weather outside is too cold, windy or icy. I gave my mother a Leslie DVD too so that she can walk inside in bad weather.

Welcome. I have a pair of "longies" I wear in cold weather. I don't walk in snowstorms or when the snow is not cleared off the roads. Too dangerous. I do like walking in light rain but have been soaked to the skin and that is no fun.

I have a cousin in the U.P. who becomes housebound in cold weather. She doesn't really walk any more, so the cold weather keeps her inside.

I do Leslie or Wii when the weather isn't good for walking. It works although it isn't as much fun.

Hi and WELCOME to the team. my name is Susan and I live in Beautiful Nova Scotia Canada. The leaves here are in full color now and I too love to go for walks. I hate when I can't make it out for my daily walk do to the fact that the weather is getting colder and my knees hurt more now. I always try and go for a walk atleast 3 times a day but lately its so dam cold here. I wish I could live in the States where it is warmer. I hope you are enjoying this kind of weather but I know its not as cold there. Its minus 2 here today and we are suppose to have snow on friday.

Susan

I walk outside in the U.P. of Michigan so sometimes the weather is an issue.Today was my 15th day. I walked 5 miles, the weather was cool, but dry. I have walked on 3 rainy days and normally I would just tell myself to stay inside and keep warm. Walking in the rain is different. I walked faster and after walking 30 min. I gave myself permission to turn around. Walking in the rain was okay, in fact with rain pants and waterproof shoes, it was great. The tress have so much more color when they are wet.
Happy to not take a day off! Waiting for our famous blizzards!
