I am doing the Susan G. Komen 3-Day walk in November. Official training doesn't start till June, but have just finished the Couch to 5K program to get me back running and today walked 8 miles with a couple of teammates. We did it in 2 hours and 4 minutes. I haven't done 8 miles in awhile so was happy with that!

Well I did 70 minutes on an elliptical the other day at the middle of my target heart range. This is pretty good for me as about two months ago, 10 minutes left me gasping and sore. I really want to start running, but with my osteoarthritis, I don't know if I'll ever be able to. :(

One of 2010's goals has been met--
Ran a 5k in my Vibram Fivefinger shoes on Sunday. My running partner and I got to the starting line a bit late so we had to go out with a really congested wave, but even so, I was fairly happy with our final time. We jogged for the first 1.5 miles or so, stopped to stretch, jogged 10 minutes, walked 2, then jogged the rest (and sprinted the final bit).

I get such a rush of empowerment when I run outdoors. I hope you feel the same way :-)

This might sound odd... but I'm so proud that I can now run a mile. That is 4 laps of our track... I run half a lap, then walk half a lap... Some background... I have a "stupid walk" resulting from a wonky hip and a sore knee, and I was sick with cardiac issues up until 2006, so that is an incredible accomplishment for me... My goal for the summer is to move up to running a lap at a time.

Robert -- I wanted to you to know that I think of you every day.
I'm currently involved in a cardio minutes contest at my gym. 1st prize is a 6-month free gym membership, which I could really use right now. So I have put aside my weight training for the duration of the contest and put 100% of my efforts into cardio.
As much as I loved cardio in the past, I have to say that I really miss the weight training. I cannot wait until this contest is over (and I have won, lol). Doing that much cardio gets very boring, very quickly.
So when I feel discouraged, I say to myself, "If Robert can do his cardio, you can do yours."
So I do it! But I just wanted to let you know how much you've inspired me in helping me reach my own goals.

Latest cardio accomplishments: My wife and I continue to walk, together when schedules allow, and I've been pushing to improve my walks from a 15 down to a 12 minute mile, and each time we go out, I'm able to trim a few seconds off the previous trip without doing harm to myself, so that's a big one.
I've also added a little time to my Tae Bo workouts, so I can burn more calories. Considering my size, tae bo was not easy in the beginning, but i have improved considerably with regards to the endurance and coordination, so I'd call that another plus.

Increasing my time and resistence on the elliptical trainer is good for me. Up to 45 minutes and I start at level 4 for 5 min. then increase levels every min. till I get to 11 and then back down and start all over again. Backwards to cool down for 5. Riding 50 mile rides on my bike the past 5 yrs with my husband who is 65. We do that in the Spring and Fall and then do 10-20 miles at least a couple of times a wk when the weather is good for us. Yesterday was a good day for Cardio...I spent about 30 minutes playing frisbee and soccer with my daughter, then took a 2.7 mile walk (at a 13 min/mile pace), and last night finished out the day with 30 minutes of Tae Bo)....needless to say, I'm feeling it today.

By using weight training for my legs I've dropped a minute off my per mile runnning time!

Monday, I did W1D1 of the C25K but it was so easy, I advanced to W2D1 yesterday. My youngest daughter and I are accountability partners. Today, I walked my 5K and tomorrow I will do W2D2 of the C25K.

One of my most memorable accomplishments for cardio was being able to run and keep up with my trainer for 2 miles, without slowing down to walk. This was over a year ago, but I still remember how that felt.

I've logged over 1,500 minutes on the elliptical and jogging/staggering/running about the city greenway....and I've yet to resemble Heidi Klum!

Glad to see you are able to use your treadmill and doing great so farI do interval and can finally stay for 30 min at 4.0 and 10% incline on my treadmill before slowing down

My Accomplishment: This week I started walking on a treadmill again. Knee issues kept me off of it, but I am glad to see I am walking at a good 4-5 mph pretty steadily.
