fabulousmum-- I think Sp doesn't take nursing moms' calorie needs because they have another website called babyfit.com which is for pregnant and breastfeeding women. I prefer this site, so I went in and manually changed my calorie goals to 1800-2000, more than the recommended 1300-1600 SP originally suggested for me.
So I guess my suggestion for you is go to your start page and go to the "my goals" box and change your calorie goal to about 500 more than the suggestion.

I just started out counting calories 2 weeks ago and I've lost weight. I haven't checked to see how much pounds exactly - I'll check my weight monthly (for now) but my measurements have reduced by 1-3.5 inches! Great! This really works. What have I been doing? Counting calories (with a passion). Measuring my food to stay within my calories recommended. I have also been drinking loads of water - I drink up to 12 8oz glasses on some days but nothing less than 8 glasses. And then I have been exercising on the elliptical. However, my exercise routine has not bene as religiious as my counting calories and recording foods eaten daily.
I am shedding but I am also concerned about the amount of calories I should consume as I feel dizzy sometimes. I now know I should consume 500 more. But why does sp not consider bf moms in calculating calories?
For me, it's crucial to have good, healthy food on hand because I get ravenous - nursing gives me an enormous appetite. I need to arrange meals and snacks ahead of time, so that even when things are crazy, I have the right options (e.g, fruit and veggies rather than Doritos and M&Ms).
The second one is tracking. I'm still working on getting the calorie/exercise balance right.
Mine was getting the right calori / exercise balance. I had to experiement. I actually needed to eat more calories. And as a PP stated I ate whole grains, fruits, and veggies to get those extra calories. I treat myself too, occasionally. I also needed to get a little bit more exercise in. All in all it came down to eating enough to produce milk and exercising enough to lose weight.
Mine would be, writing everything I eat down! I was slowly losing before I re-joined SP. But since I re-joined, and started writing everything down, I have lost 8 pounds in the past 35 days! This is working for me!
