I believe that the eating guide is assuming that you are doing the workouts. The thing is that we all burn a different amount of calories working out or resting, so that really is just a guideline. I just watch my progress (fit of clothing, looks, scales if I must ;-) and if I'm stalled I play around with the calories. If I were you I definitely would eat 1400/day to begin with.
SP will give you a warning if you begin to burn too many without raising your intake. If you track all of your workouts in cardio it will keep a running of your weekly calories burned and let you know when it thinks you should raise your intake. You can either track them as circuit training, or use your hrm and enter it manually. I use my hrm every time I work out and just track it as cardio under "CLX" so I can keep an eye on my expenditure.
Normally you could click on my Spark Page and see what I mean, but I haven't been tracking here the past week or so. I track in my journal, then input to SP but I've been lucky to just get to work out lately, let alone log in here. :-)
Hope this helps!
