I also like a banana and almonds for pre workout, but post workout I LOVE Isagenix Whey Protein, its one of the highest grade, all organic protein you can get, all natural, I also use Isagenix Want More Energy while working out it really helps me get through those workouts when they get really tough!
I don't think any supplements like fat burners have every worked, I've tried a few and just stick w/the multivitamins that we all need nothing special!

I've never had preworkout supps. I'm a big fan of a banana and 12 almonds for that pre workout buzz, or even greek yogurt and berries. I love what Tosca preaches about whole foods being a staple to loose weight. Now, I DO on the other hand have whey protein shakes after a weight session.....

IZZYBEBOP - did you ever notice a difference when you tried the casein protein? I take whey isolate, and definitely notice it helped, but I'm curious about other supplements. I want to hear from real people that it works.

Has anyone tried pre-workout supplements? All sorts of names and kinds like igniters, energizers etc. we received a bunch of free samples and I think one gave me a lot more energy for my workout, I want to know if anyone has tried any of these and seen results.

Hi!

You should really try some of the recipes from CLX food guide!!! This is my first week so I decided to follow her plan for at least the first 2 weeks just to get use to proportions and the high protein intake (without feeling like I'm only eating meat lol). I have to say that I'm actually enjoying it... I don't feel hungry at all. I think I can actually finish the first month cooking from her guide.

At the same time, I highly recommend "Cook This not That- 350 cal meals" and "The New Abs Diet Cookbook". I used both when I was doing P90 and they really helped... I didn't feel like on a diet. I like that. Not feeling like: "there's the salad again", "OH! Great!! more plain chicken or weird soup", or the usual "but... I can't eat that". I also like the fact that it was written by a guy, since guys will NEVER eat something that taste like rubber and sit there and say they taste good emoticon .

Thanks for the replies, ladies! I am adjusting and paying attention to how my body feels at each level. I am trying to avoid too many carbs and sugar, because that just seems to make me crave everything in sight...haha!

I agree with AKBeancounter in that the calorie ranges listed in the nutrition book are very low. SP gives me a lot more. I eat about 1650-1750 and that makes it bearable and I am losing fat - 2lbs week average. I think some of the recipes look good, but I already cook very similar to that. I eat below my SP carb range and on the high side of protein range. I take my morning and post-workout whey & casein protein shakes. But when lifting weights you want to be able to sustain that type of exercise and eat enough to support new muscle growth. I think I read somewhere that muscle requires about 600 calories, so no need to eat a whole lot more, just a couple hundred here and there above your target and then it should go towards building muscle and not stored as fat.

So, I am sort of loosely following the prescribed diet since my recipes are similar to these, just keeping my calorie intakes higher. I think Wowy said for me to eat 1300, no way could I do that, ever.

But, I am doing the workouts and adding another extra 45-50 minutes of cardio 5x a week on top of that.

First, I'll address your calorie intake. I'm not sure what your height is, but I'm 5'1" and have my calorie intake at 1200-1500. As far as figuring out why you want to eat more, you'll have to dig deep inside you and decided if you're actually hungry or there's something emotional going on. I'm not really an emotional eater, in fact sometimes I just wish I could take a pill that would give me my calories and nutrients. But just now, 3/21/11 @ 3:00 PM, I started getting shaky which tells me my body needs food. I did the last half of BC2 (I didn't finish it the last time because my muscles were weak) and then all of BC3. I'm already at 1118 calories for the day. If you're lifting heavy, and doing cardio too, you might have to up your calorie intake, but make sure you get in plenty of protein, and carbs after your workout. Like Chalene says during BC3 (do you find yourself hungrier when you lift heavy)? Obviously yes.

When I first joined SP, I tracked every bit of food I took in. That soon wore off, but I still track my food and try to get everything in that I eat. If I forget to track for two days I can't remember what I ate.I have my ratio set at 30%FATS/40%CARBS/30%PROTEIN. I got this off the Beachbody site, but if I go over my protein I don't worry because before I was barely getting in half what I'm getting in now.

Feel free to give more information if you still have questions.

Hello! I have only been doing Chalean Extreme for 6 days now. I have been drinking a shakeology shake for breakfast and eating her recommended diet for the rest of the days. My target calories is 1300 and I have been doing pretty good with that. However, I am fighting with wanting to eat more and I can't tell sometimes whether it is emotional or just that I am not getting as many nutrients as my body is needing for this program. I did give up snacking in the evenings and I am paying attention to my water intake. Sometimes I just get burned out and feel like I am becoming over-obsessive about my eating. Do you ever feel that way when you first begin tracking?

"The Complete Guide To Protein" from Bodybuilding.com. This is a PDF and I just read it. Really makes sense.

www.bodybuilding.com/store/opt/prote
in
_guide.pdf

My son is an ICU nurse, and also a body builder, and has done a lot of research on protein supplements. What he uses, and I've used are:

Optimum 100% Whey Protein www.bodybuilding.com/store/opt/whey.
ht
ml

Optimum 100% Casein Protein www.bodybuilding.com/store/opt/cas.h
tm
l

This one is suppose to be taken before bed, and I haven't, but I'm getting ready to make another order and am going to start doing this. My body is failing me, as I was barely able to get through WK4 BC2 last week. In fact I stopped half way through. So my body is telling me I need more protein, and I ran out of both of these about 4 weeks ago and have been substituting Jillian Michael's Whey Protein powder. It is more filling than these are, but I don't think it's enough to sustain my body while doing CLX.

When I reduce the starchy carbs from my diet (no more than 2 servings a day) I see body fat loss. My weight might not change - I'm already at 110 and 5'2" - but I get leaner. Just thought I'd make the suggestion!

MEB0810 - There's not much to say about the nutrition plan; the guidebook gives Calorie targets, which I think range from "too low" to "way too low". Beyond that, it just refers you to the cookbook, which gives recipes for each phase.

Like any other plan, the idea is to eat five times a day, and to eat fewer processed foods. The overall philosophy seems to be that if you stick to healthy foods, everything kind of takes care of itself. In the Kitchen Makeover video, you can get a feel for what she considers to be healthy foods: low fat dairy, high-fiber grains, lean protein, unsaturated fats, and plenty of fruits and vegetables.

You may also want to try this out:
teambeachbody.com/eat-smart/m
eal-plans
/diet-wizard

The Push phase is similar to the Low-Carb Express plan (about 50% of Calories from protein, 30% carb, 20% fat), while the Burn and Lean phases are closer to the Balanced Slim-Down plan (30/40/30). Full diet plans are available to Team Beachbody members only, but you can see a sample plan and get the general idea for free.

If you still want the full nutrition guide, you'll probably have to check with the file-sharing services; it's not a pamphlet like you get with some programs, but a 60-page book.

Of course! I think one reason I've been so successful is having friends doing the same workouts and such that I am. Keeps it alive and fun to talk about! Go for it! I'm sure you will encourage others as you share your story! :-)

Hi SARAFAILLA! No, I don't have a blog nor do I have a Sparkpage yet. I am thinking about doing both in 2011-I'm alittle scared/nervous to put myself "out there". I am going to really commit myself to CLX both working out and eating the proper nutrient dense foods because I want to see what kind of results I will get. Thank you again for taking the time to respond to my question.

Thanks! Do you have a blog? Yeah I've loved CLX and FIRE- guess I just love all things Turbo! lol. How far into CLX are you? I'm doing a random schedule and still love it as much as the first time I went through it. I go back and forth from logging all my food and planing out everyday what I can eat to just trying to 'be good' and seeing what happens. I think that's one reason I've loved adding the muscle bc I'd rather workout hard and eat more than not workout and never eat. just a preference. Best of wishes on your journey! :-)

Sarahfailla,

Thank you for your input. I have already completed 1 round of p90x but wanted something different and I liked CLX. So excited to do the program! I want to incorporate an eating program that is sustainable as a lifestyle, so I will pull recipes from her book and watch my macros and cals and try not to become "obsessive" over it. I read your Sparkpage and your blog-you started out where I am now in my journey to better health. You are an inspiration! Thanks again.

I have done Jam/FIRE/CLX and have never followed her plan. Really bc of where we live and lack of options (in China currently) but I have still lost over 30 pounds and killed my waistline! What I would do is log my food on here and make sure I was getting enough protein, and really watched my fat intake. I added more calories than spark said bc I burned a lot with these workouts. Before I had Shakeology I used a protein powder but now I use Shakeology as my protein shake and vitamin source. It was a hard balance at first with CLX bc I was not eating enough at first and then I started eating too much so I had to figure out the right daily calorie needs for my body. :-)

I just received my Chalean Extreme kit and I am wondering how closely anyone has followed her nutrition plan. Do you devise your own or follow hers exclusively or a bit of both? What kind of results have you had with your nutrition? I understand nutrition is half (if not more) of the battle and I would like to do what is best for optimal results.
Thanks.

Discuss proper nutrition (protein/carbs/fats) and supplements here. What do you eat to help you obtain maximum results, and do you take any extra supplements (protein powders or others supplements) that help you ... Beachbody products or others.
