I went in this Morning for another injection. Ouch ! This time they went lower on my right side of S1. I sure hope to get some relief from this constant pain. The Doc said to give it a week or 2. Those injections hurt.

I have several herniated discs in my lumbar,Thoracic and cervical spines. My lumbar has been extremely painful for the last month or so. I made an appointment for another epidural shot to my left side of the lumbar. I'm happy to say the 1st shot to my lower right lumbar went great. I had it done in Feb. of 2009 and still feel no pain there,he must have hit the sweet spot. I'm hoping it happens again.

So sorry to hear about your injury. YES, people can be real ignorant. Don't let them get the best of you. Like Ron White says "You Can't Fix Stupid". Just tell those people that "It sucks to be you with such a small mind".

I Injured my back at work 3 years ago. When I reported my injury to my supervisor and requested to go to the Doctor, they put me off for 3 days because they thought that I was lying to them about my injury. Their Doctor called my injury a sprain and kept me working for 2 more months. After not getting any better the doctor sent me to a specialist. I was found to have 2 blown discs and nerve damage and am now Totally Disabled. My life went from 110 mph to zero. I have went through 2 surgeries and I GAINED 67 LBS. in 2 years. I am not even going to get into my new found depression. Anyways, just tell those people to just go F*** themselves.

You are not alone here on this Team. Thank You for sharing yourself with us. Well, you take care & God Bless. Also sending big HUGS to you. Keep your chin up and be proud of who you are.

O Kris, Can I relate. I hurt myself on my way into my office. My staff had always expected me to be the first person there and the one to shut the lights off. I was the top producer and never missed a day. then one day the big accident and everybody couldn't understand why I couldn't or better still wasn't prepared to still perform miracles. Maybe, Dave was was getting lazy or just faking. When I was ploughing on the weight and no longer going to the gym, it certainly must be because I was getting lazy.

It could have nothing to do with the severely herniated disc, or the other spinal damage that has now taken me completely out of the work force and put me on long term disability and on a regular dosage of Fentanyl.

You see, the problem is not you or me, it is people who just cannot mind their own business. But fret not, because it is strong willed, independent thinking, determined winners, just like you and me and all of the members of SparkPeople who are DOERS and not YAPPER, that make things happen. All you have to do is look at the accomplishments of the many members who will become your Spark Buddies and compare those to the accomplishments of the loudmouthed low-life's who you have heard from, and then decide who do you want as a Buddy.

You are doing the right things by being a member of SparkPeople and following the plan. Choose your friends wisely.

Hi - feeling down is a very common side-effect of any serious injury/illness. It can lead to clinical depression.

Don't be too worried about the weight gain re the medication. Try to be even less worried about what others MAY think or MAY say regarding this. Some people have rather large mouths and a small brain and don't think before they speak:-(

Where it comes to exercise, only do it if you are cleared for it, and ensure that you get qualified input as to what is advisable and what is best left alone! Ask your Dr for a referral to a Physiotherapist so that you can be shown what and how you can exercise safely.

Pay attention to your nutrition because your body is healing. You MAY benefit from extra dairy, but talk with your Dr and if need be ask for a referral to a Dietitian who will be able to prescribe a calorie range as it applies to your circumstances.

Where it comes to the pain, I hope that this subsides, but if it doesn't, Acupuncture can be quite effective - and the plus is that it isn't any extra chemical. IF you have appetite issues, then they may be able to put a needle in to suppress appetite, too!

I wish you well in your journey, and am sure that in time you will be thumbing your nose at your "cohorts" at work!

You will find that if you create a SparkPage you will get more benefit from SP because other members will be able to drop by and leave encouraging messages (and the occasional Goodie:-)

Take care,
Kris

I recently hurt my back and have been away from my usual routine. I have noticed that with all the lack of exercise and having to get corticosteroid injection I have gained some weight. I gained 8lbs and suddenly everyone is talking about me. I tried to play it off and pretend that I did not care, but it bothered me. Especially since I have been trying to eat healthier the past few days in order to lose what I have gained plus more to help with my herniated disk and spinal stenosis. It is sad to say the the people are I work with are more concerned that I gained weight and never once ever bothered to ask me why I was out of work for 5 weeks.

I have lost weight in the past for myself and i will continue to lose weight for my own health. I have gone from 278lbs to 223 and back up to 231 after my injury. But I have a new goal. I will not let ignorant people get me down. I will do for me again and come out on top. Then Charlie Sheen will not be the only one "winning" LOL!!!
