I was sent to "Neck and Back Physicians" and they said we're going to do some alternative treatment instead of surgery. They hooked up a computer that read the muscle impulses and had me work the weight machine until................Now everytime I see their commercial it drives me crazy.

Oh, definitely! I didn't mean by posting the articles to the favorites section to indicate that any of this stuff is appropriate for everyone. And, yes, if you don't have the muscle support in place around your core you REALLY have to be careful how you build that support or else you can make everything much worse.
But I also know that my back is finally to a point where I don't hurt every single day--and the reason is that I have slowly and carefully built my core muscles to support my degenerating spine. Most of my back is fused--which puts stress on everything else.
There is such a myriad of problems that can cause back pain that there is no one solution. I just pulled articles that are about backs from the SP archives, think that they'd be of interest to this group.

HI guys I third what you are saying. Although, if strength excercises are recommended for someone with say pulled or strained muscles, then I guess they wouldn't have the issues you have Michelle either. It's best to get a second opinion is what I firmly believe too. If something hurts way way too much while it is supposed to be doing us good, then it is most likely not helping....

I second that. I have a compressed fracture of L2 that has "healed." When I returned full-time to work, I have a 45 minute drive. I had been running and strength training all summer, but when school starting I was getting back spasms. The back doctor believes the drive to work was putting stress on my back and the strength training/running was adding to that stress causing the spasms. So I can only run and strength train on the weekends when I am not commuting...Definitely get it cleared through your doctor and/or physical therapist.
Be Careful: I was doing strength exercises as part of alternate therapy when we were trying to avoid surgery and the whole place heard the pop and the woosh as the 2nd disc in my back blew. It may not be appropriate for ALL circumstances. Michelle
