I have an appointment for Rambo, our new puppy. That was his given name. I think it is funny, so we are keeping it. On Sunday, we are going to the play room in town for an evaluation to make sure he can go to the open PLAY dates on Monday afternoons.

WE NEVER did this with Ricky and I AM SURE IT WAS A BIG MISTAKE.

Rambo seems to be highly socialized and not really afraid of anything. We had a thunderstorm yesterday and he was sitting with me when the thunder started. All he did was open his eyes, look around and look at me to get confirmation everything was OK and he fell asleep.

He loved people and is willing to go from person to person without any fear, no barking, no shaking. It is comforting to me. I was always afraid for Ricky. I knew he was only afraid. I always wished I could make things better for him. BUT, after 15 years of doing nothing....there didn't seem to be anything that worked. emoticon

Yes, keeping them socialized to me is a high priority. That's what keeps them friendly and knowing people are nice, not scarey.

Paula, I have to say I'm guilty of going too fast. My mother keeps telling me to let him stop and smell and explore. I'm going to have to slow down and use it as a relaxing, stress free time for both of us! emoticon

I try to get Thor out everyday, at least 15 minutes (as rec. by the great Cesear). It seems to be improving his interactions with strangers and other dogs. He's gotten to the point where he can ignore other neighborhood dogs barking as we walk past. One woman let Thor sniff her female chihuahua on the beach and he was so gentle and polite! lol emoticon
I worry about him getting too much anxiety and turning mean someday (he's only 6 months) so I want to be the best Chi mama I can be! My mom keeps trying to get me to teach him to walk on the treadmill, but I'm not sure that one is a good idea. lol

Ricky's daily routine is going for a nightly walk with his Dad. depending upon the weather, it can be from 20 - 35 minutes. This is in addition to our walks. When Ricky and I walk we go slow and smell the roses. It is about enjoying every little thing that crosses our path. I've noticed he seems a little confused at first. WHY is Dad going so fast and yanking on my leash when I stop to smell everything??? What's the hurry???

Thanks guys!! We did have a good day. No wind in the morning and suddenly in the afternoon the winds came in at 26MPH plus gusts. Roger had the truck and camper while I drove mom in her car. We were both affected by the winds. In Texarcana for the night and have no ideas as to where we will be tomorrow on our travels.

Guess I turned this thread into a chat thread. Sorry for that!! emoticonemoticonemoticon

Hi Carol & everyone else reading; We are having a good trip so far. The girls, Daisy & Keeleigh keep their ears perked up & wait for the word truck and walk. We can't keep them in the camper when they see the activity of taking things to the truck. Daisy is a slick little dickens and slips out of the camper without us seeing her and we find her running around the truck looking for an open door:) We have to hang on to Keeleigh as she thinks there is some area of the campground she hasn't explored yet (LOL). Anyway. we are going to have a longer day tomorrow as we are going through downtown Houston before all the traffic picks up, we hope!!

Hope you all have a great Sunday. We plan on it!! Eileen emoticonemoticon

I have heard of others having to check to make sure that they are still signed up to get the emails. For some reason (computer crazies?) occasionally the box saying don't send emails gets checked.

Maintaining.

Thanks Carol. For the longest time, I wasn't getting notified of the messages. Occasionally now, I have to go on and make sure I am signed up for emails. For some reason, the system keeps kicking them out for me and I have to keep a watch on that. I'm glad to be back.

Well, I'm a "late-comer"... My guys generally keep each other exercised. Pip and Widget play together every morning generally. Right now they and the puppies play. I'm a "cuddler so I'm better at cuddling. I and hubby do take them for walks in the summer and when Pooka - my REALLY LAZY girl, does nothing but eat and lay in her bed- needed to lose weight I first took her on the treadmill, VERY slowly with me, then when my leg said "NO TREADMILL" I would sit with her while SHE did the treadmill! LOL. The vet was SO impressed I was able to get her weight down. :)
Travel safely, Jame123.

It turns out that an eerie type of chaos can lurk just behind a facade of order - and yet, deep inside the chaos lurks an even eerier type of order.

Hi Everyone, sounds like you 3 sparkers are giving your furbabies pretty good exercises.
NELLIE, Paco gets his exercise chasing my cat named Kaya, she is part feral and spooks easy and Paco knows this. My other good girl Myra grew up with another chi and is in no way afraid of Paco. Paco bodyslams Myra and she just kind of says ho hum go away I won't even react. LOL it is fun to watch and I want to get it on video but can't get the timing right.
JAMER123, I remember commenting on your photos about your travel and your cute doggers. Thats creative play and they get good exercise too. They will enjoy being home I bet. Hope you had a good vacation. Have you ever traveled down to arizona in the winter, the weather is gorgeous here then. We have gazillion 'snowbirds' that winter here. If you ever do, maybe we can get together.

We have been wintering in a 32' travel trailer and have to walk our dogs on the leash in the dog walk area only. They exercise is several walks a day and playing with toys that we toss onto the bed from the "living room" :):) They seem to get good exercise. We are now on the way home and they will have a big house to run in as they did before we left.

I do take Cielito out several times a day. However, I suspect his real exciting exercise is periodically chasing my cats.

We like to keep our chi's healthy just like people need to do. Which means chi's need to exercise too. Tell us what type of exercise your chi gets each day, could be chasing ball or other toys, Chi Mommy taking chi for outdoor walk, or??? Getting them a playmate???
