In order to save seeds, you need to be growing heirloom (non-hybrid) vegetables. If you are growing hybrid vegetables, the seeds will not grow true to their parent. I collect and grow my tomatoes, eggplants, okra and peppers. I should grow beans - we eat so many, but my husband bought beans by the hundred pounds, and we are eating our way through those first.

I only plant heirlooms and collect the seeds. Saving seeds is easy. Most seeds can just be collected when ready then dried (if not dried already). Tomato seeds needs to be fermented.

I was just wondering if anyone here harvests their own garden seeds. DH is really wanting to do that so we can be totally self sufficiant with our garden. I grew up with a huge garden but we always just bought our seeds. I have found a few things on line which I will post here later but wondering if anyone has first hand experience. Hope that everyone had a great 4th of July!
