Oh _ I agree...go free range chooks.
We had our hens on a commercial mash as it was cheaper, but the eggs were pathetically watery and yolks were pale.

We changed to grass and occasionally organic wheat, and the difference is incredible...loads of eggs, thick shells and thick contents and bright orange yolks.

...and yes we have a temperamental rooster that we keep an eye on - if he comes at me I just stick out my boot and the silly boy ends up charging straight into it and see stars...then stays away from me for a while. I don't ever kick at him, so don't get me wrong. Its his choice to stop before he gets to my boot or not!

...and yes, definately crack the eggs in a separate bowl - although we only have this prob when we don't collect regularly. If a hen is sitting on her egg - or there are several eggs in her nestingbox then we know they are fertile and leave them for her. Each of our hens has their own nest they lay in.

What fits your schedule better...exercising 1 hour a day or being dead 24hrs a day? lol
You're fat - don't try and sugar coat it because you will end up eating that too! (Dr Phil)
Sweat is your fat crying!
Remember the girl who gave up - yeah, no one else does either! Keep going.
There will be a day when I can no longer run...today is not that day!
Your legs are not giving out, your head is...keep exercising.
Whether you think you can or you can't, you're right!

I can't even see them. If I see one even from a distance, I freak out big time. My grandma had a bunch when I was little and I got attacked by the rooster. I can't even look at a picture of a chicken now. Just knowing they are near is enough to send me over the edge. I know. I'm pathedic.

If you can get eggs for $2 a dozen you should do it. That's cheap. We sell them for $2.50 but most of the farm markets are $3-4 a dozen around here.

BTW, just shoo them out of the way. They're not bright they'll run.

LOL yeah, when you get farm eggs you learn to crack them into a separate bowl and THEN add them to your batter, or frying pan. We've had a few rude surprises.

What would you attempt to do if you knew you could not fail?

I've seen a guy on craigslist here that sells organic eggs for 2 bucks a dozen. The only thing keeping me from getting them is the idea that there may be chickens there. I am scared to death of them and just the thought of one getting near me sends me into panic mode. I'm just about in tear just thinking of them right now. Ok...have to go now....must...breathe.....

Growing up we raised chickens and always had an abundance of eggs (selling most). I will never forget how they were the best eggs. BTW, we had brown eggs - YUMMY!!

Dec 2008-Dec 2009 I faithfully maintained a 107-109... Unfortantely after Dec 2009, I let myself get back to a 115.6 - I'm back on track and am going to get back to my maintaining range again!

Are you near me? Geez, mine have been going insane plus we have a friend of mine's while they're down south for the winter. I have 20 dozen sitting in the fridge and I delivered 15 dozen already. LOL

I had my backyard girls for over a year. I couldn't eat their eggs after listening to them lay. Goodness they make a lot of noise. My girls were free range most of the neighborhood. Peep made them move to West Jordan.

I don't really eat many eggs. My DD does. I should get her some since she ate 5 last night.

Awesome. My SIL keeps chickens, and their eggs are sooooooooo much better than store eggs, you have no idea! Taste better, look better, cook better, you name it. Now I have proof.
