Time for a quick check-in:

Lose 10 pounds. Lost 2 total so far.

Stick to my workout plan every day. Not perfectly...

Stick to my food plan every day. I'm doing pretty well with this, sometimes going over by just the tiniest amount, which made me realize that if that tiniest amount is keeping me from losing weight, I must have my calorie range set too high, since I'm not losing much so far this month. So I adjusted it.

Meditate every day. :( THIS IS HARD. I've only missed a few days, but when I do it, I feel like I'm sure not good at this yet. Mind is all over the place. Ugh.

How's everyone doing on December goals?

I started petering out about a week ago, kind of 75% sticking to it. Now I'm getting back on track... though I suspect I set my goals a bit too lofty considering how swamped I am with work and Christmas preparations. Oh well, that's okay. It keeps me from throwing my fitness goals completely out the window and eating platefuls of Christmas cookies :)

IRISHROSE - I've got that week off too and am soooo looking forward to it. I'm hoping to do lots of reading then too :)

I didn't bother posting last night cuz I was kicking myself for not sticking to everything... I should have done my toning earlier in the day. I was too tired and ended up skipping it. Oh well, one day isn't going to totally derail me. I did stick in my calorie range though, despite the cookie party, so that is good news!

I haven't had a chance to read anything let alone any of the books I've set aside for myself. I've got a week off between Christmas and New Years though.

I will say that I've been sticking to my running plan better than expected and I'm seeing the results on the scale as well as during my runs. yay!

Most definitely, I won't jump right into HM training :) 5k training is currently the maximum of my ability. Coincidentally I was just researching this a bit, and I read something that sounded like you shouldn't even think about training for HM unless you currently run 15-25 miles a week. I'm at more like 8! LOL So yep, I've got a long way to go. Still it is fun to think I could do this someday!!

update: I skipped my run this morning bc my legs are still super tight from the Jingle Bell run on Saturday night. It's my fault bc I didn't stretch well afterwards. I'm planning on doing yoga after work to see if that helps and I'm going to get a run in tomorrow morning.

JODROX: Based on everything I've read about running, you should try to have at least a year's worth of experience under your belt before you try a longer distance like the half marathon. There are some people that think you should wait 18 months before you start HM training. I just think you should take your time and listen to your legs.

Thanks for the info! I would love to do it someday! How long does it take for a newbie runner to get to that point? Based on how long it's taken me to be able to run a 5k, I'm thinking maybe 2 years!

If I remember correctly, you run through all of the parks and there's some running through the employees only areas and there's also some running on the roads outside of the parks. They usually have all of the characters dressed up and you can take pictures with them. For the Princess HM they had all of the princesses with their princes and then towards the end they had all of the wicked queens and witches. It's awesome! There are a ton of people that come out to run the Disney races though and the crowd and picture taking made me re-think my goal for finishing by a certain time.

JODROX: what's funny is that I've had the book for a year now and have yet to read it... this is my problem, I find books that are about the things I'm interested in (running, eating healthfully, etc) but I have other people give me books that I "just HAVE to read" and so I put off my own bc I feel bad hanging on to theirs. That's why my goal is to actually read some of my own this month.

I consider myself a beginner runner as well. I did a half marathon back in 2009 (Disney Princess HM) and then took about a year off of running so I'm slowly easing myself back into it. I registered for the Disney HM back in Feb thinking I'd be further along than I am... so my plan is to run/walk it using 4:1 intervals that a friend of mine got from a Jeff Galloway plan. I struggle with running a distance without walk breaks... I guess I just found my goal for 2012!

Irishtrose -- hi! Great goals! I think you're a Born to Run fan... yes? (I think I recognize that first quote you have in your signature.) I've LOVE the book and am reading it again for the 2nd time. It makes me want to run! I do run... I'm still a beginner. I had to laugh at that part in the book when the author said he went to the doctor for his foot problem, and the doctor said you need to quit running, and he (the author) said, but I barely run! Just 2-3 miles. HA! To me, at this point, that IS running! :))) I'd love to do a half marathon someday, but for now 5ks are a big enough challenge!

I'd like to finally get around to reading one of the many books I have on whole foods and plant based diets. And of course I'd love to say I got all of my training runs in from now till the half marathon in January.

We can all reach our goals! (thinking positive)

Sorry to hear you're feeling down, Funky_chicken. I know the holidays depress a lot of people... sorry, I wish I had some good advice for you. It sounds like you have a good plan though - focus on yourself and your health and fitness and take your mind OFF the holidays. This year, more than past years, the season doesn't seem quite as Christmasy to me, maybe because I'm so busy and stressed out at work. So, yeah, having something else to focus on could take your mind off Christmas!

The holidays always depress me so I have gotten so far off track with nutrition and working out. I have not been to the gym and done a proper work out in far too long. I want to get back on track. I can feel and have felt what my poor choices have done to my progress. December will be even more depressing with my son leaving for 3 weeks. So if I can get back on track before he leaves I can hopefully zoom in and focus on that instead of being alone for the holidays.
I gained 3 pounds in the last few weeks and know i have lost muscle tone.

My goal for December is to:
Work out 4-5x per week.
More is better, but something is also better than none.
Start tracking my food again.
Lose the 3 pounds I gained.
Lose an additional 4 pounds by the end of December.

Electralyte – You can do it! 33 maintenance weeks?? Does that mean you hit your weight-loss goal 33 weeks ago and have been maintaining that long? If I’m understanding that correctly – WOW! Good for you!

Love7755 – You are SO CLOSE!!!!! Do let us know when you hit it, okay? I want to see a big, proud “I made it to ONEDERLAND” post from you! :)

SwimLover – How do you like WW? I’ve never done it, but it sure seems to work for a lot of people! Good for you working out Thanksgiving Day! You ROCK!

To stay on the Weight Watchers Points Plus Plan---did not do so well on Thanksgiving.

To exercise daily for at least 60 minutes. I actually did exercise for 60 minutes on Thanksgiving.
