I will see if I can find the recipe I used. I just took a black bean burger recipe I found on the internet and added jalapeños and chili powder. I rolled them into balls and refrigerated them, the next day I simmered them in the tomato sauce while I cooked the pasta and hamburger meat. When the pasta was done I took out the meatless balls and a little sauce for me, drained and added the hamburger to the sauce and let that simmer while I sliced the bread. Then I served up the spaghetti and everyone was happy.

August is almost over and the fall will be here soon. I had a good weekend with lots of exercise and no meat.

Last night I made spaghetti and black bean meatballs, I guess they are not meatballs if they have no meat, so they were bean and rice balls. I made them spicy and thought they turned out very tasty. No one in the family would even try them. I made a separate meat sauce for them. I also made a loaf of whole wheat bread in the bread machine that disappeared like magic.

Hey - sorry I've been out of the loop! I rely on email to tell me when there's something new for me to read, and it quit telling me. Hmpf

Diane, Rob -- did you get your mojo back? It seems like sometimes when you hit that low, you're more inspired than ever to get back on track again. Even if working out is difficult or impossible, you crave decent food.

BTVMADS -- good for you! You're back on track and blew your running fears out of the water!

Me.... I seem to be yoyoing in more ways than one! Weight is up and down two pounds. And my dedication is up and down too. Today I'm doing well, sticking with my plan. Yesterday I ran and toned (man, am I sore!). Just need to stick with it day after day after day. No more of this on again off again business.

This week is starting off a lot stronger for me -- I managed to say no to desserts on Sunday AND Monday, went running on Sunday despite 90-degree heat, and this morning I jogged 5 miles for the first time in months! I hope I keep this momentum going, since my birthday is in 8 days and I want to feel healthy and fabulous when it rolls around.

Last week blew my goals out of the water. No strength training and very little cardio. I didn't eat any meat, but I ended up eating a lot of energy bars and store bought peanut butter and crackers.

Going from eating all fresh veggies and home cooked beans to eating corner store junk has left me feeling terrible. Yesterday I was sick as a dog and my intestines are still cramping.

I've been off the wagon too. I just moved cross-country, and in the process I managed to stop running on a regular basis, give up low-carb, and gain back the 2.5 pounds I had lost. In less than a month I have to start training for a half marathon, and I've lost so much running fitness that I'm absolutely terrified instead of confident. emoticon

Hopefully, now that I'm settled, I can create a new schedule for myself so that I can get back into running shape and start feeling good again!!

Let's all make a pledge to make the last 10 days of August healthy and meaningful ones!

My August goals are not going very well. I started off great, blew it over vacation, had a few good days, and most recently have had zero energy/desire. So... I am at the point again where I'm pretty fed up with myself and am going to do better today. I just need to get to a point where I can sustain that.

How is everyone else doing?

August goals are going good so far. I have had some days that I was so busy that I couldn't get on SparkPeople to track my food, but I still stayed with a good diet.

Last night I had pinto beans that I cooked in the crock pot with onion, bell pepper, celery, and tomatoes. When it was done I tossed in some frozen corn and carrots for color and ate it like a soup served over brown rice.

August 12 -- Well, I felt like I gained about 10, but really only gained two. Good news? I'm trying not to be too hard on myself... So I'd still sure like to lose 8 pounds this month, which now means losing 10 pounds in 20 days. Ouch.

I've mapped out my workouts for the rest of the month and just need to be faithful about logging my food intake.

Day 12

I am meeting all my goals so far. Last night I had tuna, whole wheat pasta, mixed vegetables, and spinach salad. So that was my second serving of meat for the week. Tonight is strength training even though I am still sore from Wednesday. Tomorrow we will be stopping at Jason's Deli for the wonderful salad bar on the way home from the In-laws house. On Sunday I will throw a 13 bean soup mix in the crock pot to eat for supper and left overs for the week.

August 12 will be a "re-evaluate the goals" day for me. Yeah, I can jump back in with the exercise goals and eating right goal, but the 8 pounds might be impossible now. :( Why did I do this to myself???

The silver lining is that, regarding goal #4, I actually did journal quite a lot on vacation.

1) Lose 8 pounds.
2) Stick with my running/workout plans (alternating days).
3) Eat within my SP nutrition goals for each day.
4) Restart journaling.
5) Tone every day.

Day 8

I am doing good on the goals so far, but yesterday was a bad day in that I ate almost nothing. Had oatmeal in the morning and then nothing until we stopped at a Jason's Deli late Sunday night on the way home. I had a salad. Nice fresh baby spinach and romaine lettuce, I put beans on top to at least get some protein for the day. Today I am going to eat my first meat of the month. Decided to have tuna for lunch before I work out since I have been low on protein lately. For dinner I am having a salad with black-eyed peas and brown rice.

Day 4

I am still hitting all my goal even though I ate way to much food yesterday, I tracked all of it and ate nothing bad. I still haven't eaten any meat but yesterday I was hungry all day. I worked out hard with the weights, did about double the amount of cardio as normal, and walked morning and afternoon. So hopefully that explains and offsets all the extra calories I ate.

Tonight I am having beans and rice with spinach, a filling meal so hopefully I will not eat so much extra food.

Day 2!

So far so good. I have eaten no meat and worked out and walked both days. Tonight I am having vegetarian lasagna and green beans. The walk this morning was nice but it is going to be 109 today so this afternoons walk will be interesting ;)

Ok, let's do that again. What's YOUR goal for the month of August? Dietary, fitness, weight-loss or otherwise. It's good to identify your goal so you know what you're striving for and figure out how to get there!

Me?

1) I am going to lose 8 pounds.
2) I am going to stick with my running/workout plans (alternating days).
3) I am going to eat withing reason, sticking within my SP nutrition goals for each day.
4) I am going to restart journaling.

Yey, I've stated my goals! Will you help keep me on track???
