I have never been to a Whole Food or Trader Joe's, not one in my area. I have been wanting to take a drive to one but have not found the time yet. Let me know what you think.

My wife and daughter don't like soup, but I love it! I am finishing off my vegetable soup tonight and will start some black beans soaking tonight so that I can make spicey black bean and sweat potatoe soup tomorrow. My son will eat soup with me but mainly just because he will eat anything. He even loves my veggie spread. We pull out the chopper and throw whatever vegetables we have in chop it up fine with some nuts add a little vegan mayo and spread it on whole wheat toast. Yum!

I avoid TVP and tofu, and my husband is not too interested in adding more beans and rice to his diet, and he doesn't like soup at all. I just hope to find one or more alternatives to add to the menu.

So far, I like the way the ground up roasted walnuts and cauliflower turned out, but other than sampling it, I have yet to use it in a meal. Perhaps this evening. Tomorrow I head to the Detroit area to shop at Whole Foods and Trader Joe's for the first time, so I am excited!

I have been buying Quorn in the health food store but the new Kroger by my daughters school sells it as well. If you can buy Quorn in Texas, the beef state, I'm sure you can get it in most other states.

Are you trying to get the look and feel of meat or just something filling? I use beans and brown rice in place of meat at most of my meals, but we eat a lot of Mexican food so it is easy to substitute. I have also been eating a lot of soup now that the weather is turning cool and use barley and lintels a lot.

I've had some gluten flour in the pantry and I've been meaning to try making seitan, perhaps tonight while my walnut/cauliflower dish is roasting - the great looking recipes inspire me!

I am heading to the Detroit area on Wednesday or Thursday and I will look for Quorn.

Thank you for the information.

Seitan can also be used as a meat substitute if gluten isn't a problem.

I don't know of any recipe to make your own Quorn! It was invented to help feed the poor people of the third world! It has some sort of mushroom protein in it I think! But my vegan friends can't eat it as it has egg protein too I believe! They do some very tasty foods made of it and I have a good Quorn cook book!

I'm in Florida and can find Quorn in our local health food store. I use the crumbles and the meatballs. I love the taste!

The Quorn looks fabulous! I don't think they're allowed to sell it in Canada or the US - the 2 places I shop each week. Please LMK if I'm wrong.

Is there a recipe to make your own Quorn?

It's a recipe I found while surfing. I copied it into my blog, and I'll update the blog with my review.

I won't eat soy products (tofu or TVP) so I am looking for other options.

I just came across a ground meat substitute made from walnuts and cauliflower. It looks like it might work in recipes where the meat is cooked and then crumbled. I plan on buying the ingredients and trying the recipe tonight - I'll report back on that.

Any other suggestions for faux ground meat?
