Hi, again! My schedule has been really chaotic the last 3 months, but I'm making a concentrated effort to keep jumping. I'm working on 15 minutes of straight jumping a day, and I'm finding it to be a great workout. Hoping to add more time next month!

8.20.2013: 21 min jump rope.

Tried alternate jumps today, not too good yet but I will get there. It makes jump faster than the basic two feet jumps.

If you are a Beginner or a Restart, try to jump at least total 60-min or 2000x.
Intermediate or Advanced, I know that you can do more than double the Beginner's numbers!

This is what I do to get my minutes (this ave always done). I do as many jumps till am tired, sometimes I do 1 min or 30 secs interval. When am done or tired, I divide whatever I have on my jump rope counter by 130 (that is the average of what I do per min) and I get what I want. Another option is if I intended jumping for five minutes, I just continue jumping and resting till I make 650 on my counter that is just 5 min for the day or 1300 = 10 mins. Than am done. But more often than not I do interval of 2:1 ratio.

My first JR challenge, yay!! I think I can do average 300/day...that is 3x 100...which should be 3-4 minutes. Most of time they will be included in my workouts.
On days I need rest, I'll just do it light jumps or don't-leave-the-ground-mock-rope jumps.
We just finished a ShapeUp challenge at my work and we had nr of steps per day to complete. On days I was not reaching the goal, I would quickly filling in the gap with such jumps.

To keep momentum, you can still do fake jump rope without leaving the feet of the ground. I used to do that when I was pregnant. It helps to keep the good posture of torso and core and your shoulders and arms still work while resting a bit the legs.
OR, if just one leg is hurting, you can jump on one leg only (not too much or you'll be assymetrical ^-^)

I think I'll double my goal for July (which was 3000 jumps) as July was not a very productive month for me, I believe I can do better this month, SO my goal for August 2013 is 6000 jumps!! (So excited!!)

Thanks for the tips. At home, I usually tried to see my reflection from the dark screen of my tv or the glass cabinet but always at side view. I will try to see my form, maybe I will just go workout very early in morning when not many hotel guests (hopefully not too creepy environment, either!).

I used to jump rope in an empty studio/classroom at my gym. Now I have to jump in the main space. At first it was really hard. I was very self-conscious. It got better. Although no one else jumps rope there, it is such a primary and significant part of my workout that I just had to do it. For the longest time, I would face the mirrored wall but I would look at a spot up on the ceiling. I couldn't bear to look at me or lose my focus by looking at was going on all around me. It is only this week that I've been able to look in the mirror. Rather than looking and judging myself, I just try to analyze what my body is doing as you would for any exercise. That is easier said than done! Jumping up and down, I know I look really silly. It's probably good for me to have to put that kind of thinking aside and simply observe. Maybe for you, just being in a public gym in the hotel to exercise rather than in your private home will be huge in and of itself. If there are mirrors, and no one is looking or you're feeling brave, try a few jumps. Good luck and I hope you have fun.

Hmm, that's interesting, to watch yourself in the mirror while jump rope and see your form. I haven't yet get the chance to jump in gym but late August, I will be staying at a hotel, hopefully able to get access to the gym :D (and hopefully no strangers, I'm too shy to jump in front others, haha).

And yes, agree with what you said, listen to your body, don't push yourself too hard to the point of crucial pain. I'm looking forward on your update, PETALIA :D

I've been thinking a lot about my JR goal for August. I had thought to do a double-under goal for the month but my knees are hurting tonight. I think that rather than trying to go all out, I would learn from and benefit the most if my challenge were to listen to my body and respond. My tendency is not to listen and to overdo things. Maybe I can only practice double-unders just a little at a time. Sigh.

I've been jumping rope at my gym. With mirrors on all the walls, I see for the first time that my right wrist/hand is higher than my left. I've been trying to correct this but I haven't yet been successful. I'm also rotating my forearms too much. My wrists need to be doing more. Perhaps another JR August goal for me will be to work on my form. I think I need to slow way down.

Listening to my body and responding so as to avoid injury and working on my form and alignment will be my August goals. I'll let you know how I make out.

My goal for this month is 4000x! Will be quite a challenge as the second half of this month, I will have to find alternative place for exercise (will be staying at a hotel) but will try to squeeze in my jump rope!
