Wow, when I said the jumping would come in handy for cardio, I didn't know how right I was! I did 16 minutes of jumping yesterday, so my goal for April was 7000 and I did 18450. I'm joining the May challenge, so see everyone there!

Completed 4900 jumps for April. I didn't set a goal for myself. I tried to increase my number of jumps by 100 every week. I stayed consistent and I am very happy with my results. I'm going to check out May's challenge. I want to stop counting jumps and go by minutes jumped to increase my endurance.

daily 1min jumping: failed :( will try to do this next month :)

So I'm pretty sure I jumped on Friday, but I can't remember, so I'm going to chalk it up and try to make it up. I really have to do some more jumping today, I think if I had my weight would have gone down, not up, though it only went up a little bit. And I'm having a BLAST with this challenge. Definitely going to keep it up and going to increase my monthly or something now that I know what I can do (even with some slack off days). Woo Hoo!

My total is 8090. I'm happy with that. I won't be jumping any more for a while though. I fractured my foot some 3 months ago... and i thought it healed and all was good but apparently its not fine yet. anyway, im really glad i joined this challenge and would like to thank you all for making it happen. im looking forward to doing more of these challenges sometime in the future. jumping ROCKS! :D

I used to jump rope all the time as my form of exercise and quit! I put on a lot of weight and I am getting back into jump roping again. I didn't time myself but I did have my husband to count my jumps.

Doing high knees is like running but you have to raise your legs as high as you can :)

Quick Update:
April 28 - 200 regular, 200 running, 100 high knees
April 27 - around 60 jumps? I was distracted of my losing arm and thigh muscle mass and did pushups and squats instead. Then my legs became wobbly I couldn't jump more than 30x in one go.

I guess I might mean air jumps when I say ghost jumps. I keep my arms close to my sides and bent at a 90 degree angle with my fists out to the side. Then I "swing" my arms in a tight little circle as if I were swinging the rope. BTW, Leya, what do you mean by high knee jumps? FAITHISIN, right now I'm going to stick with my little guy, much cuter! :P

I became extra motivated to do more jumps because I'll be hitting the beach in May.
But I just found out that the deadline for my programming thesis is now scheduled on May 4 so I might not even touch my jumping rope for the remaining days of April. But! Jumping actually helps me fall asleep faster. :)

So I really like the different jumps I've added in, I really feel an effort when I'm doing them. I think that's partially because they're more difficult and also because I put them between my regulr jumps, so it challenges my mind a little to switch gears, even when I'm prepared in my head :P So I'll have to try some other different ones :)

FaithIsIn, I've gotten that a little from my father-in-law. I was ghost jumping in the kitchen and he heard me, so he came to investigate. Also did ghost jumping outside and he asked if I needed a rope. I know my jumping will change once I get a rope, since my jumping is really fast since I have no rope. I'm looking forward to the challenge though.

So excited to try jump rope while I'm on trip away from home, away from comfort zone, away from familiarity :D I hope we will get a nice house that when I jump, I don't bother other people and some nice surface to absorb the impact. Will try to get at least 1-min jump per day. It's a family trip, with parents, elder brother with his wife and daughters and me (the young and single lady LOL). I think my dad will kill me if he knows I'm bring the jump rope, he has this something against me and exercises, maybe coz I'll always do at inappropriate time according to him, haha.

Wow, I didn't realize how much I was slacking in giving my updates, and in jumping. My weight certainly shows it. I only gained back a *tiny* bit, so hopefully I get get rid of that and keep going down again. I'm really glad I've been able to stay in my limits, although I'd like to stay near the bottom of my range on everything. Protein's still hard for me to get, but carbs and fat aren't a problem. Back to some major jumping. Unfortunately the jump rope my father-in-law found is just a little too short, I keep getting my feet caught when I jump.

Past few days, I didn't feel too well, I even took 2 full days rest. Maybe it's the heat, maybe I got sun stroke or something like that. It didn't help that my car always park fully exposed to the sun, I can't find nice shady place because I'm too late - have to be very, very early to the office to get the "golden" parking spots and there are less than 5 spots!

So my weekend are, I don't want to say bad for exercising, but it's almost the lack of schedule and does me in. However, I now have a jump rope, which my son prefers to play with. He even went so far as to walk towards me reaching for the rope and saying"Mine." It was too cute. But at least the pound I gained over the weekend, I got rid of again by this morning. I also switched up my jumping a little, added wide feet and twisting at the waist. Definitely a workout!

I felt so tired yesterday that I gave myself a small break. Took the elevator back up to work and only did 600 jumps. Think I'm going to change things up a little with my jumps and add some jumping jacks, too.

Obviously I only need 30 jumps more to reach my min goal but I haven't established a daily jumping routine. So I'm challenging myself to consistently jump daily at least a minute, not caring for the number of jumps I get. Anyway, I'm still happy that I got to join this challenge and thus was able to do 300 jumps straight! I'm using a 1-pound weighted jump rope and have never thought that the added weight can make jumping more challenging until now! I also used to do basic jumps only and have recently learned to do running style jumps.

Lost a little more weight and even better my son jumped with me! Well sort of. He doesn't really jump, but one way he dances is by stamping his feet, So I'm jumping in the main room, and he starts stomping away and laughing. It was adorable!

Ate a little too much yesterday, but thankfully I was able to increase my lunchtime walk to 40 minutes (I lathered up on the sunscreen) and did 800 jumps, so I still lost a tiny bit of weight. Yay!

So this weekend was definitely a test, and I think I'm actually succeeding this time. Husband's birthday celebration this weekend, so there was pizza, breadsticks and cookie cake. I ate well for the beginning of the day and had only a little bit (slice of pizza, half a breadstick, thin slice of cake. I also did 1000 jumps to make sure I didn't totally mess up my body yet again. So, so far so good. I think I forgot to jump on Friday, but I didn't lot of other exercising.

Yesterday I tried to jump swinging my rope in reverse direction. So, instead of the rope from back to front, I did front to back. Quite hard as I kept remind myself to reverse the swinging and I kept widen my arms so the loop of the rope was quite big, I felt like in circus LOL

I have been trying to stay consistent with this challenge and I'm doing pretty good so far.

4-1 = 100

I just do the basic jump. I don't do so well deep breathing while I jump. I just count and I have to be pretty focused and on the lookout for my kids who just seem to wander in front of me without realizing the danger of being hit with the rope. I would love to listen to music while I jump, I may try that maybe at night outside while the kids are in bed.

I'm usually counting my jumps since I'm doing outside or inside where I can't just turn music on. My breaths are usually 2 jumps in, two jumps out, I think. I'm making sure I'm taking deep breaths, but I only count my jumps. Right now I've been sticking with alternating feet, as if I were jogging (but I'm really jumping:P). A little depressed right now. Just looked at my weight tracker for my entire time thus far and I'm way over what I should be. But I took a look at the days leading up to my two lowest points and think I've found what I need to cut out, and I have to exercise more, since I'm not burning enough calories at the moment. Argh.

counting your breaths instead is a great idea... way easier than counting jumps. i have a problem counting my jumps lol. i tend to jump for the duration of a song and so i usually get lost in the music and forget counting altogether. oh well. what really matters to me is that i keep on jumping :) Counting is just a way to track progress... which is a way to stay consistent.

I guess I just mean counting on my own in my head. As far as breathing goes, I only know I try to keep it slow, full, and steady like when running or swimming.

interesting... my pedometer app always seems to count less than my count, especially when i go fast. doesnt counting out loud interfere with breathing?
this reminds me... do you guys have a certain way of breathing when you jump? i tend to breathe in for 2 jumps then out for 2 jumps.

Hmm... I just used a pedometer to count my jumps. I counted 1,000 jumps. My pedometer counted 1,797 jumps. What's with that? I think I'll just keep counting out-loud or my head might get inflated...

That's awesome, LUNAGURL3, looks like you will get your goal before mid of this month or maybe before the end of third week :D

Based on upper body workout and last Tuesday jumping, I think my right side is weaker than left side. My right arm can't lift up as high and as easily as my left arm. Right foot always the first one that get tangled with rope but my left foot is more sore, maybe I hit the floor harder with my left foot. I got my goal, which is to get less 3000 jumps (balance jumps that I need to do), let see if I can get less 2000 before end of this week :D

I think next month I'm going to have to increase my monthly goal, cuz at this rate, I'm going to surpass it pretty quick, hopefully :P At least with all the jumps I dropped a pound.

While walking yesterday I did bicep curls (no weights) and I did notice my left arm was a little more tired than my right. Being right-handed I think that makes some sense. Just like your feet are slightly different in size (which is why you should try on both shoes, not just one). Also, there are certain things people tend to do with one hand exclusively, like writing.

I did a little test yesterday. I tried to keep jumping as long as I can and I got 2 min 51s, 360 jumps. That was nearly 3 min!

I'm not sure which side is dominant, but I do notice a difference myself as well. Since I air jump rope (don't have a physical rope but I simulate swinging the rope), I don't notice it as much.

Really annoyed with myself. I know I love chocolate and been trying to keep it in check, but I have to find healthier ways of getting my fix. Hubby's birthday was yeterday and the office got him a cake, the rest of which he brought home. I had a small slice, along with everything else. Tried to counteract with my jumps, which I probably did, just not as much as I hoped. So no more cake or leftover Passover sweets, more chocolate almond milk (that slao adds protein which I usually am lacking in) and healthy double protein bread with nutella. Also have to be careful since we're having a small party for hubby on Sat, so frustrating.

Thanks, PETALIA, for sharing what you did. I think I notice my dominant arm when I lift thing (my left is stronger), wil try to look (or feel) closely when I jump rope. How about legs, maybe we also have one more dominant than the other!

Petalia thank you for sharing your experiences with us. I really enjoy reading your posts and I find them very informative and nicely written too!
About the dominant and weak arm... I noticed this in myself too a few weeks ago. I usually do bicep curls using barbels. But one day, I couldn't find the barbell that I needed and so I used dumbbells instead. I remember a noticeable difference between the two arms... one being quite weaker than the other. After that, I started noticing that my bench presses and overhead presses were sort of skewed and I think its because one of my arms is weaker.
I like your idea of doing uneven pushups (i love all sorts of pushups) and I will start incorporating those into my workouts.

I've been making progress on my own jump rope goals for April. Writing down my dilemma on this thread, I believe has helped me a great deal to be conscious about the whinging chatter in my head that accompanies the first 100 jumps. Now it's down to about the first 30 jumps.

To make less of a difference in strength between my dominant right arm and my weaker left arm, I've been doing uneven pushups, putting a ball or a squishy ball under one hand and doing regular pushups, doing an equal amount on both hands. I'm doing bicep curls, each arm separately. I think I need to do arm strengthening work, working just one arm at a time and not the two together. I need to find some more exercises but I feel that this has been a good start. Now, when I turn the rope, I very consciously turn leading with my left arm. The difference used to become noticeable when I neared 1,000 jumps, now it is noticeable after 300 jumps. Oh dear (Is tennis to blame?). I have some work to do. Once again, writing down my goals on this thread has helped me tremendously to really try to do these things. Thanks.

Ugh, so Passover was this weekend, and I really tried to eat healthy food leading up to the Seder and be really careful with the food at dinner. Also found out that the scale I've been using is not the best. I weighed myself there and got 139, then the in-laws scale said 137, so I'm sticking with 137. I didn't keep great track of my jumps over the weekend, but here's as much of an update as I can do.

Guess what I discovered today?? You can use a pedometer to count your jumps!! I spent a couple of hours trying to find an app that would count my jumps for me but I couldn't find anything. Then my brother suggested a pedometer and it worked! So much easier!

Did about 600 jumps yesterday, and clocked myself doing 152 in one minute.
Weight = 134 as of this morning!

I think I'll still get my walk today, but I've got a half day at work and then running a couple errands. Hopefully that will make it up. And yes I've found that doing the exercise consistently over time, your body has to work a little less and my legs will soon stop screaming :P

Okay, so I still don't know how many jumps I can do in one minute, but I did 350 jumps yesterday and I got rewarded by dropping a pound! So now I have to keep it up. And yeah, the stairs can be hard (I'm not in great shape, and I'm tired). I'd probably be taking the stairs regardless, and I love the walk.

It's funny, the first day I decided to do steps, it didn't occur to me that there were 5 flights of stairs :P But I've kept it up every day since then, hopefully it'll get a little easier soon.

I'm a little late, but here goes. I don't actually know how many I can do in a minute, I usually do at least 3 sets of 100 a day, though I've been slacking recently becuase I'm working and walking a half hour on my lunch break and taking the stairs (5th floor office). So I'm going to time myself today, but I'm going to aim for a max this month of 7000 jumps. Wish me luck!

Sorry for not checking in daily 'cause I'm really busy. But here's a quick update:
progress: 625/3750
April 3 = 5 minutes = 125 jumps * 5 = 625 jumps
April 2 = 0 :(
April 1 = 0 :(

Get well, team leader! Hope you can find that someone who can massage that pain away.

My update:
4/2 = 120 (1 minute) (420/5080)
4/1 = 300 (1+1 = 2 minutes) (300/5200)

I want to aim morning and afternoon but yesterday I had this problem at my right side of my neck to my right shoulder, made me very queasy, like going to throw out, very sore muscle or maybe I turned the muscles at the wrong way. And today the pain is spreading to my right-back, maybe I should find someone who can massage this away :(

I'm in for the 1 min/day and will try for the 2000 total for the month. If I see I"m doing better, I'll raise the total number.
I was gone all day yesterday from 5:15am to 8:30pm so I didn't jump at all ~ sorta collapsed by the time I got home! lol I'm out of here to go jump now! Jean

The first 100 jumps of every practice, I feel all kinds of aches and pains. I'm constantly complaining to myself that there is no way I can go on. It's dreadful! After the first one hundred, all that talk washes away and I'm in the zone and feeling fine. In the past, my challenge to myself was to just get past those first 100 jumps. This month I would like to try (how?) to complain less to myself, to feel less crummy. I warm-up. I stretch. I think it's a mind thing and I very much want to break through.

Oh, a second goal. My right arm is dominant, stronger than my left arm. By the time I get towards 1,000 jumps, this becomes a real problem,the rope does not turn evenly and I start to miss. It took me a long time to realize it was the difference in the strength of my arms. Now, I consciously turn the rope leading with my left hand. I do free-weight upper body work but the idea is always to do exactly the same thing on both sides. Hmm...I would like to strengthen up this weaker left arm as an April goal. Once again, how?

My update:
4/1 = 300 (300/5200), done 1-min

By the way, the mini-goal daily 1-min jump is doing at least 1-min jumping daily :D I just thought about this, thinking maybe people might misunderstood, hehe.

Count me in! I'm aiming for 5 minutes a day, 125 jumps per minute, which computes to 18750 jumps this April. But I'd like to make sure I do 1 minute per day, which I've never done before, haha. So my goal is to do a min total of 3750 this month! Let's do this!

I'm all in!! Definitely 1 minute a day - I'll use that to wake me up in the morning!
My goal is to jump a minimum of 3600 jumps, which is just a minute a day. Hopefully I'll do more. =D

Did a lot of jumps in March. My son will keep me jumping as long as he can jump with his mom. So for April will continue to jump for my health

I will go for 4500 jumps in April and a daily 1 min jumping; will be interesting to see how many jumps I can really do in a minute now!

Congratulations to those who achieved March's Monthly Challenge, WooHoo! And those who just started or nearly got your goals (I'll consider you nearly got your goals when you start jumping!), this month is another chance :D

For April 2012, aim for Maximum Total Jump by end of the month!
Aim for at least 500 jumps. Or maybe 5000 jumps. If you jump daily at least 60 jumps, how about 2000 jumps :D Whatever number that you choose, always keep track, whether offline or online. I'll always be here to support you and you can post in the forum for your progress.

My goal is 5500 jumps!

For this month, I challenge you to do a mini-goal = aim for daily 1-min jumping!
