I just did my first tri of the season, an Olympic Distance in MN. I've done this race 2 other times, and my goal was to break 3 hours, since my time last year was 2:59:56. My time this year was 2:52:06! Boy was I pumped. I improved my times in all three events, and I hit my goals for averages. Here was my goal: Under 2 min/100 yd for the swim (actual time: 1:52/100), 19 mph for the bike (actual:19.4 mph),10k under 1 hr (actual/57:53, 9.19 min/mile)

Conditions were perfect, almost no wind. Water temp was 65, so I'm glad I had a wet suit. I used a new bike this year, and borrowed my husband's old race wheels, so that might help explain my good (for me) bike time. Just before the last/big hill, my chain fell off the front derailer. So I had to get off the bike, put the chain on, and then start up the hill. Might have had an even faster average if that hadn't happened.

Anyway, all in all a great start to my tri season. Next Sat. I'm doing a sprint. 1/2 mile swim, 18 mile bike, 3 mile run. Hope my splits are even better.

Netty, great job on your race! That's an awesome time for your first one.

Hi there - 'half irongirl' - Let me be the first to congratulate you. Celebrate your success and respect your rest and tapering. I want to get back into doing tri's again - and I am tentatively planning to do Wildflower in May.
