Hi Merle,
Be thankful you do not have snow yet...
Western Washington NEVER does well with snow, no matter how much there is.
It is now about 26 degrees out and we have about 4" of snow on the ground. This much made for I-5 to look like a parking lot last night. Took my ds 3 1/2 hours to get to his friend's home last night and he was on I-405 which wasn't as bad. In other words, he never made it home last night. We are hoping he'll get here tomorrow. Meanwhile, the kids are enjoying it while it lasts..

As for the motivation ideas. maybe another challenge will be good. I admit I have been laying low for about a month or so. I will have to look to see what kinds of challenges there are and see if I think I can do them. I need a lot of variety so having something different to do might be the trick to get back into it all...

Thanks for the suggestions,
Sue emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Ugh, I am not ready for snow. It's 50 here today and sunny; I wouldn't mind if winter stayed like this. But, that's not the way it will be. LOL

Motivation.... how about starting or redoing one of the SparkPeople challenge teams such as the Bootcamp Challenge or Swimsuit one? They give you something different to do each day & I always found they make me get up and moving even if all I do is the minimum.

Hi Merle,
If I knew what to do about motivation, I wouldn't be sitting around doing nothing. emoticon

It's been snowing here...first snowstorm of the season. Got about 1-2" or so. Not much, but a start for us. Wondering if we will get a lot of snow this winter...

Hello, Sue! It really has been a long time. Good to see you on here. Sorry it took me a while to respond. I didn't get the email notice of a post here and then I missed it when I checked into the team.

Anyway.... I'm sorry to hear that you're not feeling too motivated these days. Just what are we going to do about that?

Hi Merle,
Oh boy, we haven't been on here for a loooonnnnng
time!
I decided I'd better post something.
I haven't been doing much of anything lately.
Not sure what happened, except that I do not think I have been paying much attention to anything regarding my exercise or anything.
I get bored easily and am not a fan of exercising.
Now it is about to snow...early for these parts and it is verrrry cold outside.
Was looking into dvds, but my daughter's laptop's dvd recorder is not working and my computer is in the middle of everything. Soooo, I haven''t done anything.
Gotta get back on somehow, but not really enthused about anything right now.
So no counts for the pedometer this week.
Hope you have a good weekend and a Happy Thanksgiving next week!

Hello!

The walking DVD/game I use is Walk It Out for the Wii. I really enjoy it and find it keeps me walking longer than I probably would otherwise. However, if you don't already have a Wii system, this isn't budget friendly.

I'm afraid I don't know much about other DVDs so can't offer any good advice for you there. I did take a quick look at one of the SP teams focused on Leslie Sansone and found a long list and description of some of her DVDs there. In case you find it helpful, here's a link. Go to the first/oldest post in this thread:
www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/team_mes
sa
geboard_thread.asp?board=-1x6442x176R>29445x1

Good luck with your decision. I hope you decide to take a chance on one of the DVDs and find something that will help keep you motivated indoors. Let me know what you decide.

Hi Merle,
I haven't been doing much walking lately, mostly working in the yard and getting other things done.
So haven't kept up the pedometer count.

I do have a question though...
I am looking toward the cooler days and for ideas for indoor exercises. I noticed you use a walking dvd or program of some sort. Do you know which dvd program would be good for a walking program where I don't need to use equipment or a lot of space?

I was looking at the Leslie Sansone dvds, but wouldn't know where to start. I also am looking for a good value for my money as I am short on funds right now.

Any ideas?

Hi Sue - Sure sounds like you've been busy. I know what you mean about settling into a new routine; it can take time to get things settled sometimes so that you can actually tend to everything that you want to do.

It's been a good week for me regarding getting in my exercise. I'm using Walk It Out for most of my walking/steps work, and I've just recently started using Gold's Gym cardio for boxing. I am really enjoying that and burning some good calories.

Take care & keep moving!

Hi Merle,
Oops I've been slipping a bit on the walking and pedometer challenge. But I have good reason.
I went to the dentist twice this week and have been busy getting used to the new daily school routine.
Been a mess of a week with everyone doing different things.
Hope to do better next week.
Hope you have had a better one than me.

I did good Saturday too with lots of steps using Walk It Out. Maybe there was something energizing in the air that helped push us both along. :-)

I'm back to walking again. Ohhh my sore leg muscles!
Gotta get 'em stretched out!
Did 10,400 steps yesterday as I went all over the place.
6500 steps today.
Will be doing more next week!

Cool. It's nice if you do the walking with your DD.

I got in a decent amount of steps today. Over 9,000 on Walk It Out and about 20 minutes or so walking at the airport.

Good luck!

Ok, Merle...
No more excuses.
Gonna start that walking back up again. Got it scheduled into my day. My dd and I will be starting back up again and will use my pedometer to track those steps a little more.

Will be back in a day or two...

Hey Sue - Sounds like we need to get you back up on the wagon. :-) It's not the pedometer that is important, of course, it's the walking or getting other exercise. They do say that people tracking steps are apt to actually walk more than people who don't use a pedometer, so that is some incentive for doing so.

You can do this!

Well, Merle,
I'm not doing too well with my pedometer. Haven't used it in a couple weeks or so.
I did go walking earlier this week and walked for about 2 hours or so. So that probably came to quite a bit in steps.
Gotta get back to walking again.

This week my walking came from two Walk It Out sessions and then walking up and down the airport terminals. It was a pretty good amount of walking; but I don't have the # of steps to report...that's kind of par for the course for me I suppose.

Thanks, Sue. It has been a pretty good week for me all in all. A busy one at work; but that's not so bad. I'm hapy to have a job & one I like most of the time at that.

I got in 10,230 steps today using Walk It Out and I guess around another 1,000 from some other marching in place and little bit of walking outside.

Have a good weekend.

Hi Merle,
Well, one bedroom is painted and fixed up nicely. emoticon
I am still tempted to do more, but may have to wait awhile.
Went walking on Monday, but did not get out today as I was at an appointment. I am having a hard time keeping with my schedule the past week or so. Not doing so much weight training lately either.
Still plan on doing some blackberries, but may need to wait until they ripen more.
Just gotta get back on track... emoticon

Hope you have a good rest of the week!

Our blackberry season ended a few weeks ago...at least in my yard. Was sorry to see them go.

You're doing great it sounds. Keeping busy painting and still getting in some walks. Way to go!

Got in a good workout tonight that included 30 min free step on Wii; there were 3361 steps in that; didn't count any other walking.

I hope you have a good week too. I'm ready for the weekend already. hehehe

Hi Merle!
Sorry I haven't been on lately...
That was a great workout that you did today!
Been busy painting bedroom walls instead of walking lately. I have done some walking though and counted some steps...
5900 one day and 8600 today. I do not think I put down how much one of the other days.
Gotta get back on track again now that I am done with my daughter's room. Have some pictures to put up and then it will be done.
Looks like the blackberries are beginning to ripen.
Will be going out to pick them next week perhaps and take some others with me!!
Have a good week!

Hi Sue - I had some steps info to report; but misplaced that paper so I've got nothing. LOL Most of my steps counted were from doing the jog or step programs on Wii Fit, very little outside except for a little lunchtime walking.

Trying to keep up with working out regularly in general. The past couple weeks have been busier at work for me and that's disrupting my usual routine. Gotta work to keep up with the exercise so I don't slip back into old bad habits.

I joined the SP Healthy Family challenge recently & hoping that helps renew my focus.

I hope you're having a great August!

Hi Merle,
The peas are doing great. Have to go pick some! emoticon I think I have strawberries too.
Our blackberries won't be ripe around here until the end of August or so. They are still green and everything is about a month late this year due to the cold wet spring we had.
I've got some step counts for this week...been doing a lot of walking!

Just wanted to check in with you. I have no pedometer counts for the past week although I got in a fair amount of stepping and jogging with the Wii. I'm about to head out into the yard now and finish what is probably the last batch of blackberry picking for the year. Not much steps involved; but it's a good thing to get done. :-)

Hi Merle,
Been pretty busy myself this week. Got my bedroom cleaned up a whole lot. Missed a day or so of walking, but I think I made up for it yesterday.
Did some tracking of steps, but not every day.
Here are my week's counts:
Saturday: 9049
Monday: 6553
Wednesday: 1000 a slow day
Thursday: 7509
Friday: 13.665 !!!
Hope you have a great weekend! Looks like a pretty warm one here. Maybe I will get out and string up the peas in the garden today.

Take care,
Sue

Thanks, Sue. My weekend was nice & now the work week is another super busy one. I've gotten in pretty good number of steps as I've done 30 min Wii jog the past few days. Not counting steps though.

Today I threw away another pedometer. This was a free one I received from somewhere. I put it on thinking it would be fun to actually count steps again. Well, it didn'tcount hardly anything! I kept testing it and getting very frustrated so in the can it went. I felt better. :-)

Great stepping, Sue! I hope your weekend was great. Mine was fun & busy too.

Not much walking Fri- Sun for me. Well, I did do a bunch of grass mowing so that was a lot of back & forth that might have added up. LOL

I logged 4,971 steps on Walk It Out & Wii Fit today. Actually, think I'm going to get up in a few minutes and put in some more Walk It Out....we'll see.

Have a good week!

I did walking most of the week, but did not post all the time. I decided to do some cleanup in the pantry today since it was so wet outside.
Mon: 6000
Tues: 9840
Wed: 6650
Thurs:7410
Some of these are guessimates due to the pedometer not working quite rightm but they are pretty close to what I actually did.
Have a great 4th of July!

Hi Sue - great job on that tracking! I know I wouldn't be as good about it if I weren't coming here to share my results with you. Thanks for that!

Yesterday I put in 61 mins of Walk It Out & logged, 13,266 steps. Did another 336 steps on Wii Fit. Then more misc steps that I didn't track.

7973 steps on Walk It Out Sunday - that's the only steps I got tracked; put in probabably another 2000 or so, but I'm guessing on that.

You're doing great, Sue!

Hi Merle,
It looks like we have the same problem...
I have been noting my steps in my journal, but not on this site.
Guess we need to keep each other going!
I have been walking more the past couple of days...to make up for all the walking I missed last week due to rain and whatnot...
So with my walking and all I did 15,177 the past two days! The pedometer is still being temperamental, but I am ok with that. I just add it all up at the end of the day...
Keep on walking!

Now I'm getting in lots of steps (mainly through Walk It Out), and writing it down; but, forgetting to post here. LOL I think I'm just not a good step tracker.

2 days ago, I put in over 17,000 steps on WIO. Whew! Was fun.

Goodness me,Merle.
You are doing great...if there was anyone who was slacking, it would be me.
I haven't been keeping track of my steps very well at all.
But I went a walkin' a little this week...
I walked all over the place on Saturday, but did not track anything...that was during the party.LOL!
Monday: 5852
Wednesday: a mere 355, but I think I did more...the pedometer wasn't picking it up.
Thursday: 6703 so far...day's not over yet.

Should be back on track soon...still recovering from all the graduation stuff!

I'm such a slacker on tracking my steps. Sigh.

Tuesday I did about 3,000 steps walking to the bank, and a bunch on Wii Fit. I may have done some Walk It Out that day too but I'm too lazy to look back to check. LOL

Wed I did some walking in the yard (with dog) a little on Wii Fit; but nothing much to write home about.

I did do quite a bit of non-walking exercise so I am happy with my overall activity level.

We have a HS grad party to attend this Saturday also; it's for our grandaughter. It's not much work for me...just taking a fruit dip and ourselves. LOL Good luck with all your party plans.

It's great you can walk to stores. I really can't do that here. Well, guess I should really say that I don't feel comfortable walking the mile or more to the store when there are no sidewalks. My walking is confined to our yard, walking in place inside, or when I'm elsewhere.

Hi Merle!
Keeping moving is good...however you do it.
Guess I am not doing too well keeping track of the steps I'm taking. Been busy giving my daughter her tests this week. Had some nice thunderstorms too.
Did do some walking to the store and back for stuff for the grad party that is on Saturday.
My pedometer is having one of those weeks.
But I think I have something like 7500 or so steps recorded.
Hopefully next week will go better!

Hi!
Tuesday I logged in 7915 steps on the ped.
I skipped Wednesday altogether as I was working on grad invites for my son...got them done at least!
Today, Thursday walked down to the big mailbox at Safeway and the stores. Logged 7220 steps before it
blanked out on me.
Getting back to a normal routine...

Monday I logged 3820 steps doing Wii Fit 30 min Free Step; but as usual :-( did not wear my pedometer to track steps the rest of the day.

Tuesday I am embarrassed to report that I did not do much of any walking...a little bit on the way to lunch and I took the stairs a few times at work so I was not completely sedentary. LOL

I did a fair amount of walking while working at a conference this week; but no pedometer to track it. I'm back home & got in 3714 steps tracking on my Wii Fit. Had another couple thousand steps from a couple dog walks today.

Hi Merle.
I don't usually do so much walking around myself.
It has just been a busy week.
The past couple of days I didn't log in, but kept track of my totals:
Friday: 8890
Saturday: 6037

I spent most of the day cleaning the house or weeding the garden, so didn't get many steps in.
Also my pedometer was acting up a bit today.
Will be keeping track and can log in on this message board once or twice a week. May be better that way.

Wow - You're doing great, Sue. I guess I need to be good and keep trying the pedometer some more. I didn't wear it today; but also didn't get in much walking for it to track anyway. I worked from home and didn't do much more than walk from office to living room and so on except for the Wii Fit time. I did 30 min free step on that for 3881 steps.

Keep up the great work!

I did a lot of walking today. Walked to the store and was busy making preparations for a birthday dinner this evening.
Total steps logged: 11,300! A record for me and my pedometer!

Woohoo! You are stepping right up there Merle!
For once the pedometer was working for me today...three's a charm right?
Anyways, did a bunch of walking today and totaled up a bunch of steps.
Had the ol'ped fail me once...found out I shouldn't lean over with it on or it doesn't like my gleaning site. Anyways, I added up those steps and came up with a total of....drum roll please!!!
9,880 steps!!!!
Yeah!

My steps today came from a short walk while at work and then 30 min Free Step on Wii Fit. The Free Step counts for me: 3887 steps for that.

I have a weird pedometer. It starts out fine but doesn't finish the job.
Oh well, I did do my walk and got in 2.08 miles today. That's a total of 4.16 miles for the week.

Well, Monday didn't go too well for me either...
I almost forgot the pedometer when I went walking.
After I put it on and did my walk, I hit the pedometer on a chair and it blanked out...
So I took an approximation of about 5200 steps. Then I gave up on it for the rest of the day. It wasn't doing very well at all.
Maybe tomorrow will be better???

Mon: So, I had a lot of steps today but dont actually have a count of them as I didn't wear the pedometer. It wasn't keeping very good count of my steps & that gets to be so frustrating that I take it off. Grrr.

Most of my steps came from doing lots of time on Wii Fit tonight: I ran 30 mins Free Run, a few obstacle courses, and several rounds of Basic & Advanced Step. However many steps all that was. :-)

Howdy Sue,

Okay, I'll walk along with you. I am also not good at wearing the pedometer regularly & now I've misplaced it. Grrr. But, I'm going to find it and join you this week. If nothing else, I'll have the steps that get counted on Walk It Out or Wii Fit for me even without the pedometer.

Let's go! emoticon

Hi Merle,
I'm so sorry I have been slacking off. I have been doing a lot of walking and exercising, but I haven't been using my pedometer.
I probably need to start it up again.
So how about I start again this week? let's hope the pedometer behaves itself!!!LOL
Welcome to Taylianna!

Oh no, I'm really sorry to hear that. I'm not sure what it's doing to you. My best advice is to be careful where you hook it on so that you won't bump into the buttons accidentally. If you don't think that's the problem, you might want to call customer service and see if they have any tips. Good luck.

Got in some walking outside and inside on the Wii today:

So far this week: 22,767 steps

Hi!
I'm still having a little trouble with my pedometer.
Trying to get it to stop blanking out.
I think I am having trouble putting it on right or something.
Anyone got any ideas?

HI!
I got a new pedometer! Yeah!
Haven't been able to track anything for about a week or so, but am going to start again on Monday.
So I can start on this weekly pedometer challenge this week!
Gonna try and improve my steps each day.

Alright, Team, here we go...walking our way into fitness...

emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

We're starting a new weekly challenge on Sunday April 25. The goal is simple: use your pedometer and get in as many steps as you can. We will run it from Sunday through Saturday each week so if you have one bad week, you can always get back to it and start again the next week. There will be goodies for all participants on a weekly basis.

So, whether you want to try to have the top spot in steps recorded in the challenge or if you just want to make or beat your personal goal, let's get walking, stepping or running.

Report your number of steps daily or as often as you can in this thread and keep a running total for the week too. Use a format something like this:

Steps today:
Weekly total steps:

Enjoy!
