I know several ladies who've run multiple 1/2 marathons, and they swear by the "run 5 minutes, walk 1 minute, repeat" method! You may want to give that a shot on one of your practice runs and see how that works out. I'm doing my first 1/2 marathon in April, and that's my fallback plan in case I find myself struggling! No idea what the percentage is. But some races do have cut-off times. Competitive races will have a half marathon cut-off at 2.5 hours. So if you plan to do your half marathon in longer than that, make sure to choose a race without a cut-off time... or at least one longer than you think it will take to finish.

Heya, guys. This might seem like an odd question, but I was wondering roughly what percentage of runners in a half-marathon race walk some of the distance. Do most run straight through (albeit at varying speeds)? Or do many walk a portion of the race?
