I completed the C25K program some weeks ago and am now training for a 5K in spring 2012. Winters are long and hard in Germany so I won't try a race during this time of year. I am, however, running at least 3 times per week and take it outside whenever possible. During the winter months I will have to use a treadmill for sure, but hope to get running outside a few times, too.
You'll never regret a workout!

HI,
I'm new here. I'm signed up for the Pittsburgh Marathon in May 2012. I ran a marathon a few weeks ago.. my first...but this one will be different as I'll have to stay in shape and train during the winter in Vermont.
I'm 51 yrs. old.. Started the year at 210 lbs. and am now at my goal weight of less than 160lbs. At the beginning of the year I set out to run a 5K race which I completed in April. Then a 6 mi. race at the end of May. I decided to really push myself and set a goal to do a marathon in October. (it wasn't pretty but I finished in under 5 hrs.). In order to keep myself motivated, I signed up for another marathon in my hometown.
Looking for any and all tips on staying motivated through the dark and cold of winter.

I'm not "officially" training for a race, but I'm definitely gearing toward a half marathon in the midterm. Right now my max run is 7.4 miles, so I have some significant work to do. I'd like to knock down a 15k in the near future--maybe a month or so. So I guess that's my next objective.

I ran my first 5K in almost 2 years this past Saturday, after having to start over several times with my running due to hip issues.
I'm tentatively and carefully trying to train for a 10K race at the beginning of June.

Wow everyone here seems to be training for fantastic goals. I am working towards my first 5k on the 15th May, I know that the temps are going to be nearing 30º then so I am concerned as to how to cope with that heat, any suggestions more then welcome.

I am training to run my first marathon! I have done a few half marathon's but figure it is time to cross off the full marathon from my "bucket list"! The marathon is Sept 18th in Maui.... I figure if I going to run one I should pick a place I love.
I am in week 3 of my training plan and always looking for company for the longer runs on the weekends. I am not fast but just love to get out there, even more now that the sun is trying show its face a bit more.
I am heading out the door today for 9 miles... wish me luck!

I am currently starting mine. I do both strength training and walking. I train at least 6 months in advance since it means I am ready that much faster.

I'm currently training for a 1/2 marathon in May. The plan this year is to continue my training so that I may run a full marathon in November. That was the plan last year, but suffered with plantar fasciitis and an achilles tendon injury during the summer. So I had to "settle" for an 8k instead. But, that gave me a chance to cheer my son through the finish line of his 1/2 marathon and my hubby for his full marathon. We all ran a turkey trot on Thanksgiving Day - that was a lot of fun!

I'm not a new runner, but after running my first 1/2 marathon last fall, I slacked off a little, and am now back to being serious! I have a 5K coming up this weekend, and am planning on running a 8 miler on March 26th......

I am training for a 10k on 4/2/11. I participated last year and did an 8k last November. Now I want to work toward my time goal of 60minutes!

I started ny training for a half marathon for Luekemia in June. I have not run since my senior year in high school and the furthest that I raced was a mile. I played sports, mostly soccer, all of my life. But never found the need to simply run. I am also finishing up a degree and am finding new joys in running, it really does help to clear the mind. I am very glad to have found this page and this groups of people becuase I have a long way to go physically. Thank you all for being here

Training for several 5k's I will try to run. I ran one last april. Which was first 5k in ten years, ran cross country in high school. Lost about 40 pounds gained twenty back but never give up is my motto. So I am back training and losing weight. And planning for my first 10k in april.

I have never competed but am currently training for the Disney Princess Half in 2012. I am using Hal Higdon's half marathon training programs. I am currently on week 5 of the walking program (although I am trying to run it) and will progress through the beginner, intermediate and then advanced. you can find the programs at halhigdon.com.

started this week interval training to work up to and complete a 10 k in september. Used to run in high school. My mind remembers my body does not :) Here goes nothing
I recently ran my 1st 5k of the year (hadn't run a 5k in 2yrs) last weekend and even though I have another planned on May 16th, I'm going to begin my half marathon training for my 1st HM on Aug 1st! So excited!!

Hi, I've been interval running indoors for almost a year 2-3 miles, 5 days a week.
And decided it was time I did it for real....outdoors 10,000 meter (6k)March 18. (Money raising for the Boy Scouts)
My first Run!
It will still be intervals (because i like interval-running).
I have upped my distance to 3 to 5 miles so I feel like i will be able to handle the 6k, and i have alreadly tried out an oval track and didn't seem to have trouble with the surface. I'm not going for "time", just want to "finish", I will be in the "57 to 59" age group.
I have a question. Should I wear extra socks? Should I tighten my shoes? They seems to slide a little... Should i carry bandaids? Lotion my feet?
thanks for your help,
sparkcatkathy

I'm not officially training for any race, but I'm considering aiming for a half-marathon run. I can run 8 miles decently enough for now, but my speed isn't great. I'll have to check out some programs/schedules to see whether any speak to me. At any rate, I'll be upping my mileage.

I've found a memorial day half marathon I'm going to train for. I'm also considering a 10 miler trail run in Tucson in mid-April if it's a good time to visit my friend. I'm a little concerned about being able to train for trail conditions when it's snowy here. I can do hills, but not the more rugged trails.

Before i talk about my training let me toot my own horn just a little: On September 21 I ran the Continental Fifth Av Mile race (in NYC) I ran in my heat - the George Sheenam 70+ age group - and WON THE RACE, crossing the finish line and breaking the tape with a time of 7:53!!! I am so proud of that. Now to the training: yes, I am pretty much always in trainning. This Sunday I will be doing a 5 mile race in NYC, Central Park. Scary thing is: the last two days my running time has been dreadful (can you say 11 minute+ miles??) So my possitive thought for this sunday are greatly dimishing and yes, I FEEL AWFUL ABOUT IT!! Success to all who are trainning (or trainning to have a baby!!) Ev

I've been training since end of September using the Marathon Rookie plan. It focuses on just finishing so I've adjusted it slightly. This Sunday will be my 13 mile run, almost half a marathon.

I started over 5 weeks ago training for a half marathon that I will run on December 6th (my first). I am up to 6 miles (as of last Sunday). This Saturday I am running in a 5K to help raise money for breast cancer. I will have to check which program I am using, but I really like it. I run 4 days a week, usually with a day of rest between each day I run.

To see at what stages our team members are at in their running careers, let's post in THIS thread if we are currently training and if so, for what distance, and if you are using any particular training program.
