Today, a woman I had not seen for awhile, looked at me and said, "What happened to the rest of you?"

Packed my lunch today.... and resisted the urge to buy a piece of lemon cranberry pound cake... when I went down to the cafeteria to buy coffee.

Hey all!

Erica, way to keep a positive outlook!

Today, I went to the gym at work during my lunch hour! This continues my one week streak as I went 4 out of 5 days last week and then today! It started to get really tough today and my body didn't want to cooperate (it was pretty sluggish) but I pushed through and feel great!

I've logged 235 Fitness Minutes this year!

It is amazing how good I feel and I think I'm getting addicted to it! Now, my goal is to make it through the entire month of January on this pace. Then, I'll look at March...baby steps.

Wow, Bev - a quilt top! That is indeed a nice accomplishment cause I know those are lots of work... but labors of love, right?

Tish, you sound full of energy! I am glad you are getting things done, although I love my Christmas decorations so much, I am sad to take them down and like to leave them up another week or so.

Sorry about your car, Enika, but its great to get out and get moving and let that bus driver negotiate all the traffic! And you are right, there IS something good to find when you take the time to look.

I woke up early enough to catch the bus to get to work this morning!!! (After being able to sleep in for the last four months or so!!)

LOL...

My car broke down, so I'll be busing it from now until it's repaired. That means a short walk to the bus stop in the morning, and a short walk home in the evening.... there's always something good to find if you look hard enough!

Cleaned every room on the first and second floor, except the "inner sanctum"-dear husband's office.

I love taking down the Christmas decorations and scrubbing on New Year's Day!!

Finished a quilt top yesterday. Too mucky to ride the bike, so packed away the decorations, and hit the sewing machine. Sure felt good to actually finish something.

What a great NSV, Tish ... finding your waist. I didn't see mine for many years, and I do remember how wonderful it was when I realized it was back.

I love all the creative ways you found to keep yourself active, Linda.

You are all doing great! Thank you for the inspiration!

My NSV last week was persisting in doing my cardio by finding creative ways to do it. I get bored with exercise really easily and can find umpteen excuses not to do it. Last week, I did 4 different types of cardio without leaving home in the bad weather:
Latin Salsa dancing
Hip Hop dancing
Leslie's Walk a Mile routine
Circuit training with alpine skiier, elliptical body trek and mini trampoline. (did it twice)

Doing this has kept me interested and ready to do more cardio, and as an extra, it led to an SV too!

I have a waist!!

I am sure it is more due to the exercise than weight loss, but I looked in the mirror and I have a waist line again!!!

My NSV today was keeping my cool when a dispatcher from another shift tried to start some stuff with one of the dispatchers on my shift. She made some unfounded accusations and tried to start a rumor about one of my dispatchers. I called her on it and nipped the problem in the bud ... I hope. At any rate, I DID NOT munch my way through the situation, I TALKED my way through it. I avoided eating my frustration with the dispatcher by facing her head on.

I love baking, and I'm good at resisting the goodies I make, mostly because I give away more than I keep so I'm not tempted by the finished product. But I'm a die hard licker ... the beaters, the spoon, the bowl, even the raw cookie dough. My NSV for Thanksgiving was washing all the tools I used without licking them. I didn't lick the spoon I stirred the fudge with, or the beaters I mixed the cookie dough with ... I didn't even eat any of the raw cookie dough. And I passed on Thanksgiving dessert ... pumpkin pie. That wasn't really too difficult since I don't like pumpkin pie, so I can't really count that as a NSV ... but avoiding the spoon, beaters and cookie dough sure do!

A friend of mine on another team introduced me to a new term in one of her blogs the other day. It is a term she learned at a lap band web site. She no longer subscribes to the site because her lap band procedure was unsuccessful ... got infected, had to be removed, long bad story. But the term NSV stuck with her.

NSV stands for "Non-Scale Victories". I've opened this thread so you will be able to share your milestones that can't be measured by stepping on the scale ... and there will be many if you take the time to look for and appreciate them. Some examples of NSV would be bypassing the dessert table at a buffet or walking five extra minutes on the treadmill. It can be very discouraging when you are doing your best and the numbers on the scale aren't going down. It is especially important during those times to recognize and take credit for the things you are doing right in order to keep yourself motivated. Remember, this is not ALL about weight loss, it's also about getting healthier and staying that way for the rest of your life. Try to find something you did everyday that makes you proud of yourself because it reflects your efforts to improve your life(style).

I'll start. My son only has gym two days a week. The other three days he has that hour off. Before he left for school today I arranged with him to meet me at the grocery store at the beginning of his off hour. I WALKED the 2 miles to the grocers store and got my shopping done by the time he arrived. We loaded the groceries in his car and he drove me home, then went back to school. I thought about having him take the groceries home and put them away for me while I walked home (that would have made me even prouder of myself) but I decided in the interest of being able to find what I needed when I needed it I better accompany the groceries to the house and put them away myself.
