Ok, I decided to start small with some challenges, just to see how many active participants we have in this group.

Starting today, 12/2, let's try to meet the goal of drinking 8 cups of water a day for the next week. Ending the challenge next Wednesday the 8th.

At the end of the challenge, I will post a new topic in the challenge section so you can post how you did!!!

Good luck and keep working toward a healthy lifestyle!!!

I don't do the "stairs" per se. When I'm at the Firehouse, we are lucky enough to have purchased a Bowflex years ago, and I do exercises on that a few times per week. With respect to job specific endurance training, I salvaged a large hose dummy and I drag him all over the place (not as easy as it sounds when you are 5' tall!).

Pizza cravings - I used to have them all the time. What works for me (but not necessarily for you) is to have very spicy salsa and chips, in moderation of course. That usually cures me. But Erin's choices sound fantastic! I'll have to try that.

papa johns.... whole wheat crust, spinich alfredo or spinich alfredo chicken tomato is about 230 or something cals. the healthiest two with the lowest sodium. serving size one slice but they are big slices for a large! that's what i did for my craving after I finally saw some progress.

Another challenge: how to stop craving pizza! I know that this sounds silly but I'm craving pizza big time. Maybe someone knows of some sort of frozen box alternative. I work and live near very delicious pizza shops. Maybe typing/blogging/confessing my desires to eat it will help because I've just decided not to go for the pizza.

I know several of us are already firefighters and that our goals vary accordingly(as for me: I'm a recruit trying to get into the Dept), but could we do a challenge to do stair training? Maybe once a week? I do stairs either on the machines (for like 20 min) or outside (for like 30 min)... w a 40lb vest on. Can folks give tell me what they think?

I'm with you there! I'm still recuperating from New Year's Eve and all the long, strange calls we had that night. Sheesh, still trying to catch up on sleep. Only getting 4-5 hours a night takes a lot out of me physically.

I think we should do something for OURSELVES. I know, so bad. I think we should treat ourselves to something like a long phone call, a bath, something that involves ourselves. I know after responding to 8 calls in 7 hours I need something.

how about a weekend challenge (not this weekend) just a thought. most miles walking/biking/ running or something like that. and have a placement of how many miles we all did? Just a thought...

Nah...well...maybe a bit. It's ok, it happens to all of us once in awhile. I'm still working on other "unique" challenges for all of us. I don't want to copy what all the other Teams have - that kinda takes the fun out of the whole thing.

Yes starting on the 20th sounds great - that'll give folks a chance to check the e-mail. Also the 8 glasses of water is already listed as a challenge on the main page. There are actually 3 challenges listed right now.

i like it... add drinking 8 glasses of water per day?
You want to start the 20th Monday? that will give people to check their messages through the weekend. Or we could do it as a pre run starting the 20th and then start a 2 week one in November. say the 3rd thru 16th?

I've got an idea - let's start with the basic stuff to ensure we are all on the same page. Some of us (me included) have fallen behind (no pun intended) lately - especially binging on my birthday Wednesday. Oh yea, I messed up BIG time and ate an entire ice cream cake by myself.

1. Cut back soda/sugared drinks to less than 3 per week.
2. Try a new recipe, exercise or food and share with the rest of us. The idea is to try something new and shake up your routine.
