I remember milk biscuits, 10-cent iceblocks, Georgie Pie, and playing on the steep council land right next to our house - sliding down was fun, as were the home-made branch swings!

I remember when $10 would cover the return bus ride into town, a movie ticket and lunch at McDonalds on Queen St.

But...does anyone else remember Count Homogenised? It was a kids TV series in the 80's where the count drank milk?

I remember when chips and fizzy drink were only for birthdays and special occasions. And I realised that that is probably a very good thing.

I also remember when they first started making those little tiny bags of chips. Before that, we all had sandwiches for our school lunch. So those little bags were probably not a very good thing.

Do you remember a milk solid, like a small bar of soap from a hotel, called a milky bar or something similar (but not chocolate) that the schools would include in their hot lunches? Owairaka in Auckland had it at least.

I had just moved to the US when the US had hypercolor shirts. HUGE. I never knew NZ got them. My first 9 years were in the 80's :). We're having an 80's party this Friday actually! I'm already cringing on the calorie count.

I remember when they introduced coke/other soft drinks in plastic bottles (600mL), not just a choice of can or glass.

I also remember when a hypercolour t-shirt was the height of fashion.

I also remember (just) milk being delivered in glass bottles, silver top or gold top being the only choices.

Ah, such a child of the 80's....

I remember when we got our first colour tv. we still kept the B&W because it was part of a lovely big unit that also had our record player and radio. and I remember playing mum and dads 45rpm records on the player and dancing to them. Usesc to love the theme song to the avengers, we could slide across the kitchen floor to that one!

I started school the year of the Queen's coronation and her visit to New Zealand. We lined the streets of Otorohanga and waved union jacks. All the kids at school were given a medal, and it wasn't till I was married that I realised that must have been a nationwide occurrence. My husband has a medal too.

I remember when schools forced children to drink warmed 1/2 pints of milk, every morning. No wonder I suffered from regular tummy aches. I never touch cow's milk now.

I remember when toll calls were very expensive. My mum was a pom, so to call UK was rare. Even to call within NZ.

I also remember the party line. 3 short rings, one long followed by God only knows what. It could be yours or one of your neighbours!

How did we get from there to wireless internet & broadband?

What will the children of today write here in 30yrs?

I remember when telephones had dials. You put your finger in the number hole and pulled the dial around clockwise as far as it would go.Mobile phones were fantasy like the devices on Star Trek."Beam me up!"
I always smile when I use my flip phone and I think of Captain Kirk.

I remember the days when we didn't have playstations and computers. We'd play Bull-rush, Charades, Hide & Go Seek, Sticks & Stones and Mud Pies. Man we had fun! We were never bored. We'd play the guitar and sing. There was always something to do.

Wow, there's some great remembers there! I definately think the world was a better place back then...now days people seem to indulge too much in every aspect of their lives.

I remember when there were lots of "Georgie Pie" establishments - the best pies in the world, especially the fruit pie (blueberry?).

I remember when the Goodnight Kiwi came on TV, to tell all us kids that it was time to go to bed.

I remember when I used to get up at 4am to be at the bakery on a Saturday morning so I could load up the van before delivering over 300 loaves of bread. A loaf was 1 shilling and threepence halfpenny (wowo what a mouthfull) and we had to know how much, 2 or 3 or 4 or five loaves were WITHOUT calculators :)

I remember when mum used to have a chart with all of us kids names on, and at the beginning of the week she would start us each on 50c pocket money, and if we didn't do our chores we would get docked, so by the end of the week we might end up with 2c which could buy us 10 sweets back then (5 sweets for 1c).

I remember when 3ld of sugar cost 10d, butter 2shilling and milk 4pence.

I remember getting a small bottle of milk at school here in NZ. It was usually warm from sitting in the sun.

I also remember that when milk was delivered and left outside too long the birds would peck thru the silver foil top and drink (suck out?) the cream.

I was driving today and thought about some things that used to be but are not now, due mainly to political correctness and technology changes.

I thought it would be interesting to see how many we can get if we start each post with "I rember when.."

Here goes

I remember when...milk cost 2 cents a pint!
