I'm trying a little smaller portions in the lunch I'm bringing to work today. We'll see how it goes.

Sorry, hit post message too quickly!

I'm not this far in the book yet, for now, the biggest victory in terms of portion control has really been my committing to paying attention to what my stomach is telling me. Do I really need another helping, even if it's something health or that will keep me within my calorie range for the day? Not going back for seconds is part of portion control for me.

I do try to be cautious about portion control but I don't think anything is perfect when it comes to this.

My biggest struggle is the big one; deciding how large or small a portion is when I'm eating out. We have cut back quite a bit on going out so that helps a lot.

I am using a plan in which I commit to having three plates/bowls of food a day with no snacking and no predominantly sweet foods. A glass of juice or milk is acceptable between meals if I feel true stomach hunger between meals with more than an hour or so until mealtime. It is interesting to be trying to figure out what is the right amount needed at each meal. I've been surprised that I have been able to go for longer than I thought I could, as I had made it a habit for a long time to eat smaller portions more often. I am liking the routine because it cuts down on the number of times a day to be legitimately concerned with food. The plan recommends free eating on weekends, claiming that consistency limiting foods most days a week over a period of time makes the effects of overeating so much more obvious and uncomfortable that practitioners tend to decrease it over time. I did find on my second weekend that on the second day, I pretty much just ate three meals plus a dessert and was satisfied. I don't mean I think that will happen forever now but I can see moving toward that.
