I thought the book was really good, but also didn't like the ending. It was a book that I could put down. Now the book The Atonement I can put down. I just can't get into The Atonement the way I got into The Historian. I gues it is just not my kinda book. I enjoyed reading The Historian & will read it again.
I thought it was good too I just didn't like the ending. I mean it sort of told you what happened to her parents and it was sad. Kinda left me hanging. I have the book club edition so I'll send out an email about the questions in it!
yeah i liked it too...it was just really interesting and now i really want to go to those places and see the places they visited. ive always believed in the existance of the supernatural, so any kind of conspiracy, myth, legend, folk song, etc reafirms that...i mean stuff back then wasnt just made up...the stories had to come from somewhere, ya know.
i'm not really sure any of this qualifies as a "discussion" so it would be interesting to see what questions the book club edition raises.
"Dance like nobody's watching; love like you've never been hurt. Sing like nobody's listening; live like it's heaven on earth." - Mark Twain
ok so i guess i'll go first...this is gonna sound awful but since i read it so long ago i forgot some of the details but here it goes haha
i actually really liked this book...i mean i wasn't crazy about it...but i love historical fiction so i just liked the fact that they talked about real places and different cultures. i also like the idea of vampires. i think it's just one of those things that no one will know...like aliens haha...i also liked how 2 stories winded around the main story and then they all met together at the end (Paul and Helen, Paul's daughter and the kid from the university, and the the main story - the search for Dracula). I liked that even though it was a story about vampires, there wasnt an absurd amount of violence and it wasn't graphic (even though i love true crime novels haha). i just thought that by making this not gory, it makes u pay more attention to the story line than the blood.
i know i'm rambling but i hope it makes sense haha
