Thank you so much Ruby, but I've thought about it and it wouldn't be a big deal if it didn't come back. I wouldn't feel the need to put salt or sugar on any food haha. And I could definitely get over my love affair with sweet foods like ice cream and chocolate. No point if I can't taste them :D. So part of me hopes it doesn't come back as it will be easier to ease into a new life with fewer sweets.

Be well!

Losing the sense of taste is pretty common with the higher dosages (I had 150mcg's) so not unexpected. It may come back or it may be permanent, we'll see :P

Well, there is a good side to that, for the time being anyhow. Cherios instead of ice cream is more compatible with weight loss.

I'm not too sure about the loss of taste. Have you visited the thyca website? There are a lot more people on that site and they may have more information for you about how long it might last.

I'm interested to know about how you continue to do so keep us posted here, ok? Maybe someone on our team will chime in too!

Hello! Just wanted to post an update.

It's been a week and a half since RAI, and though not too much dry mouth, my sense of taste is just gone. So I've discovered that my cravings are all connected to my sense of taste, not with what I actually digest. I was seriously craving something sweet this past weekend and decided to have a small bowl of ice cream.. Nothing. Craving still there, did not taste the ice cream at all... went that way all weekend. So on the good side, I had a bowl of normal cheerios with no sugar in skim milk and could not taste it, so that ws breaskfast today.

I didn't have dizzy spells but I was very hypothyroid. I've heard of people with longstanding salivary gland problems from RAI and the sour candy is supposed to help prevent that from happening - you might want to consider it. I do have issues with dry mouth but no salivary gland pain or stones.

Let us know how you are doing!

Thank you for replying and sharing your experience!

I'm doing okay, lost 3 pounds haha. Having dizzy spells though.. Do you remember having those? I'm hesitant about the sour candy though, as I really hate the taste of anything sour.. or lemons.. But the water suggestion is great, I will definitely drink up alot after I get the treatment!

Definitely loving the homemade bread, looking to invest in a breadmachine so that I can continue in that practice! :D

I was able to lose weight on the LID - I followed the one from the Thyca website. I ate a lot of cereals - (Kashi Autumn and malt-o-meal comes to mind). I ate fresh fruits and vegetables, baked myself some banana bread and followed the french bread recipe on the King Arthur's flour. I was usually hypo when on the LID so I also made some turkey burgers and chicken breasts and froze them so all I had to do was heat them up. The home made bread was yummy and I used it for the turkey burgers.

Knowing I would be on it for a few weeks was helpful. How are you doing on it?

When you go in for the RAI, it's recommended to take sour things to suck on to prevent salivary gland issues. I took a bag of sour dried cherries from Trader Joes but I've heard many people use lemon candies. I also took in about 6 big bottles of water and drank them pretty quickly the first day to flush out the excess RAI.

Best of luck to you! Let us know how you are doing!

Hello, I have a few questions about RAI and LID. There are not very many recipes on here that are LID friendly (though the Thyca recipe book is helpful). How did everyone do on that diet? I started it this week and after lunch today I had major cravings for something. I'm hoping this diet will get me off my rollercoaster love-affair with chocolate that developed after I first had kids. Any words of advice? I go in on January 18th for the RAI, as I have minors i'll be staying at the hospital for three days..
