Magnets work well for a lot of people, not all but a lot and are well worth trying. Mu hubby's ankles come out of joint ao he has them in his shoes when he is having trouble, he puts them in and they keep them in and his knees from popping. I use a large Nikkon one bor my back when I am having severe problems with it. We have all sizes of them and straps too, to keep them in place.

Water is very important for us. We may, and I do, require more than the 8 glasses a day. The link goes to a water calculator I use to see what I need for my current weight. Mt requirement has dropped 9 ounces due to weight loss. Yipee!

I have seen that Listerine trick~ and it's not suggested that you spray it ON you, just on the surrounding area like bushes and grass and so on, so the smell lingers. I wouldn't spray it on the animals either...

I LIKE the SSS, and it really works~ but only the original, not the new scented stuff.

Don't trust labels or even data sheets too much. Not everything is listed. Sometimes the listing is generalized. For example, fragrance and be anything. Many fragrances are actually cancerous. That's from my own research. I had a link on my old computer where Liquid Tide spilled on a dog which had it's kennel next to the washer. The family was gone. The dog was there, laying in tide for awhile and it ate up the dogs hair and skin. It was on an OR tv station, but when I wrote to ask if the dog lived, they declined to answer. Note, there is nothing VISIBLE on either the label or datasheet which would clue you in. You find a lot when you do an indepth study of each ingredient.

May you be Blessed as you Bless others.

pcbob another thing that works well from leg cramps is a magnet My mother used to get terrible cramps up in the middle of the night with a charleyhorse she put magnets across the foot of her bed under the sheet when she felt a cramp coming she just t0uched her toe to the magnet and the cramp went away. Just another home remedy She used both bar and horseshoe magnets and the cheep ones worked quite well

Looks like this subject got a lot of interesting alternatives. All I know is that the listerine thing has worked for me and my best friend. I would not do anything to harm my dogs - owned a ranch for many many years and found that alternative therapies really do work and sometimes better than the synthetic drugs that we are accustomed to taking.
Everyone have a good evening.

Yeah, I didn't believe it, either. My wife still thinks it's silly, but I have put some on her side of the bed, too. We haven't had any serious cramps for awhile now. I read that you are supposed to put a whole bar under the sheets, but it seems to me that wsould keep me awake all night, banging my feet into it. So I keep the small slivers of soap left over that are too small for the shower. I break these into 2 or 3 small pieces (after they are well dried) and put them down into the little button pockets of my mattress, under the mattress cover and under the sheet. I hardly know they are there, but they still work. And it's a good use for the soap that would otherwise be thrown out. I have no idea why they work. But, hey, why fight it?

PC_BOB, The soap bar under the sheets REALLY WORKS??
I read that and thought to myself, 'no way'!!!! My
husband has diabetic nueropathy and moves his legs
due to cramping, ALL NIGHT LONG!!! (Probably why I
don't sleep well, nights!) He recently went on a
prescription drug to stop his leg movements and cramps, but if a bar of soap works, wondering now if
we should try that!!! emoticon

LILHLFPINT, Mosquitos just LOVE my blood. You could
'try' eating LOTS of garlic. Not sure how that would
work with keeping friends and family close though!
emoticon Also, I heard that the THAI mosquitos
love garlic! emoticon I think that on a serious
note, garlic AND Skin So Soft would probably work.
GOOD LUCK, and let us know what you find out! emoticon

Well it could be the alcohol or it might be the eucalyptus oil, or both. The 'experts' aren't always right, tho I put a lot of faith in Snopes. I will try it and see for myself. I didn't believe the one about putting soap under the sheets for leg cramps, either, until I tried it. New discoveries are made every day.

I totally agree. There are so many items on the market with specific ingrediants that would not be safe for children and pets. I personally rely on SKIN SO SOFT (from avon) for my needs. i have no pets, so don't have to worry about that. Have no babies here either, so I am home free but still choose safe products.emoticon

The repellant could be the smell - it's pretty strong. I would guess the high alcohol content got the wasp drunk and he either passed out (can you say toga party?) or he overdosed on the alcohol. I remember doing experiments in high school where we raised amoebas and then gave one group alcohol and another nicotine. The alcohol amobae's hearts slowed down until they stopped, and the nicotine amobae's hearts beat faster and faster until they died.

Actually I would probably not use Listerine on the dogs. Alcohol is toxic for them (look at the alcohol content), not to mention it give them skin irritations. And if you accidentally spray it in their eye or the wind blows even a little in their eyes, it could cause an irritation at best or even serious damage.

Getting even further off track -- don't use fabric softener sheets on your pets, either. Some people say they are great for removing loose hair, but read the label on that stuff. It is HIGHLY toxic!

WOW, who would have thought, lol. I guess I am getting some the next time I do groceries. I would much rather use that on my boys them bug spray. I am going to try this.

I have also heard that rubbing a bounce sheet on your skin will repel bugs. My aunt swears by it.

Yes you can spray it on yourself. Won't hurt a thing. Matter of fact I sprayed my dogs...LOL. They weren't really wild about the idea but the "pesties" stayed away from them. Mesquitos cause heart worms and I really don't want my pups to be sick.

wow - that great info and very interesting. Wonder what would happen if you used it on yourself, would it repel them?

I know that Avon's skin-so-soft has worked as an insect repellent. When my children were small I used to rub the SSS bath oil on them and the bugs would not come near them. Now Avon has products w/that ingredient as a bug spray.

I'm going to buy that product, maybe it will get rid of the "no-see-ums" that haunt my walk way this time of year.

I thought I'd share this little tidbit of info. I received an email the other day that gave a use for "Listerine".........mesquito repellant.....well, I was at the local WalMart the other day and bought their brand of "Listerine" and thought I'd just try it.
I was outside and took my little spray bottle with me because we have had SO much rain lately.....I started spraying around the patio.......not only did it get rid of the pesty mesquitos it got rid of the flies as well..........then I look above my door and saw a red wasp hard a work building a nest....well, you guessed it, I sprayed the wasp and it fell and was legs up.
Now, I do believe that this is a Real use for the mouth wash other than getting rid of germs. LOL.
It Really Works!!!
Just wanted to share........have a great evening.
