Water is very important for us. We may, and I do, require more than the 8 glasses a day. The link goes to a water calculator I use to see what I need for my current weight. Mt requirement has dropped 9 ounces due to weight loss. Yipee! fitnessgear101.com/fitness-calculato rs/water-requirement-caculators.aspx

Hi all, I joined 2/7, but this is my first post to this team. Good luck to everyone at lowering your numbers and keeping them down. I saw my doc today and told her I would go on Cholesterol meds if I couldn't change the numbers in 6 months. So I am working hard at eating the right foods - well actually that's not hard because I love good foods. The hard part is NOT eating the desserts and cheeses, but so far, so good. The motivation on this website is phenomenal. I am exercising several days per week, but I wish I could commit to cardio EVERY day. It's my goal, but life sometimes gets in the way.

Welcome aboard Newbie,
I joined this team about a month ago! What a wonderful team and lots of support! I was told to eat broiled, baked and steamed foods. Nothing fried! Stay away from sugar and sweet dairy products! I admit it is hard to change your eating habits! SP has wonderful recipes also. We are inthis together for help and support! You can do it!

I guess I just assumed that that was a normal procedure to try naturally before doing prescription medicine.

Interesting that a Doctor would actually recommend something like Cholest OFF.. I am amazed. Good for you.
Hey, Just wanted to let you know that I was wanting to do things naturally first. The doctor suggested that I take Cholest Off before he tried to put me on medication. Within the last month, I have been changing how I eat and I am working out. I hope to find out soon if I am making any progress.

I am soooo glad its not that high. After I'd done some research after talking to doc office yesterday morning I was getting worried. and they'd told me it was slightly elevated and I needed to get it under control within next 6 months. Paula

Yes I'm not a doctor but with the original numbers you posted, you were a major heart attack waiting to mhappen. So glad that that isn't the case. Everyone here has already given good advise. Look through all the posts and see what others are doing to lower their numbers. I also posted a "fruits and veggies" thread that might be useful too.
"NANCY" TEAM LEADER-CHOLESTEROL SUPPORT SPARKDAYTON WALKING IS A CHALLENGE
I just called doctors office back and asked for clarification. 1282 was LDL/p? My LDL/c was 129 (100 was good) and HDL was 47. That looks lots better from what I've been researching on numbers. 1282 looked off the charts I've been reading. I just need to get it down to 100. Paula

Hi Newbie
I have just lower my cholesterol from 6.5 to 5.09 in six months by following the menu from Spark People and my exercise, lost 15 pounds and blood work is perfect. I also drank water with lemon juice in it and took LOCLO by Nature's Sunshine. The doctor told me to keep up the good work and I told him about Spark People. You can do it too just increase your fibre and cut out the bad fat of butter, ice cream, sweets etc. It's a lot better than taking pills for the rest of your life? You can do it.
Enjoy life PatMay

Welcome Harpofdixie. Glad to have you on the team. You are doing the right thing by losing weight. Exercise is good for lowing cholesterol along with eating oatmeal, flax seed and a few nuts. Mary :)

If the numbers you are posting are correct, that LDL is quite a bit higher that should be expected. Yep, time to take it under control. Check the posts and come here often. You will find a lot of support and helpful ways to lower both the bp and cholesterol. Eat more fruits and veggies. cut out fast food. Limit your intake of butter, margarine, mayonnaise, eggs...etc, etc. (One of our members posted this VERY NOTEWORTHY hint) IF IT CAME FROM AN ANIMAL, IT CONTAINS CHOLESTEROL.. p.S. My LDL was 165 and Dr. wants it below 100...and he considered mine more than a little bit high...
Hi! Newbie here. I just joined your group. I have been on Spark over 6 months. I just found out from my lab results I need to go on low fat (already doing that) and low cholestol diet because the Doc said my LDL was slightly elevated. It was 1282 and normal was 1000? These totals look different that what I reading on your posts. My blood pressure is also slightly elevated 136/86. I have to get this under control or go on medicine. I'm 43. Any advice? Paula
