I was going to say I like all the vegetables I have had, then I remembered Lima beans. I have tried them several different ways but still don't like them.

when i was expecting my first child, i read a book on the nutritional analysis of veggies, vit. c, vit a, etc. i found broccoli was at the top nutritionally, followed by spinach and other greens, turnip greens, kale, etc. i concentrated on them and my baby turned out to be very healthy and could recite the alphabet by age two. i don't know if this helped, but it is important to be selective with your veggies and diet. if you don't like these vegetables, there is always a recipe that you will like. broccoli quiche, for example or adding campbells healthy request cream of celery soup to spinach or using it as a sauce for other veggies could make them your favorite. the inspiration to encourage more vegetarians is to read Gen. 1:29.

Veggies are my nemesis! I'm a texture eater and I hate both crisp/crunch and watery.
My most hated vegetable is iceburg lettuce. Crisp and tastes like watery dirt. *shudder* One small piece of shredded lettuce on a Taco Bell taco can ruin the whole thing for me. I can taste even the smallest amount of lettuce.

Have you guys heard about supertasters? They've found that some picky eaters have more than the usual number of taste buds. To find out, you dye your tongue with food coloring and then count the number of normal-colored small circles (those are your tastebuds) that fall inside the hole of a piece of 3-ring paper. More than 25 means you're a supertaster!

Haven't found one I haven't liked, although it was dicey with egg plant. First one I bought I stuffed. In the garbage with that one, cause I have never made it before wasn't sure if that what it was supposed to taste like or if it was bad. Now I think I just had a bad on cause I now like eggplant, grilled on the barbeque, marinated in oil olive and baslamic vinegar first for hours.

NOTHING tastes as good as thin feels

I make pickled beets every now and then. They are called Harvard Beets.

1 #2 can beets (2 1/2 cups)
1/3 cup sugar
2 tsp cornstarch
1/4 cup vinegar
Beet liquid or water, 1/4 cup
1 Tblsp butter (optional if you want to eat them warm)

Drain beets, reserve liquid
Combine sugar and cornstarch; stir into vinegar and beet liquid or water; stir over low heat until thickened.

Add beets and butter; heat. Makes five servings.

Note: I make these omitting the butter and eat them cold.

I do not know the calorie counts or anything because this is from Woman's Home Companion cookbook from 1942. It was my mother's.

I did a Spark Search and clicked on the Illinois site listing varieties, planting and preserving. Wow! Here goes the list: Daybreak, Spring, Sparkle, Little Marvel, Green Arrow, Wando.
Sugar peas list: Snowbird, Dwarf Gray Sugar, Snowflake, Sugar Snap, Snow, French.
There was two recipes but I could not get my laptop to copy them.
Just go on line and look up Pea Recipes.

I don't know if there are different varieties other than peas and snap peas. I will look them up and see what I come up with.

I don't have a garden either but my landlord said we can plant one next year. Last year we planted tomato plants and only got green tomatoes. Summer didn't cooperate.

Maybe you should just grow a big garden of different kinds of peas. (How many varieties of peas are there anyway?). When the peas are ready, you can just go out and eat them straight off the vines. LOL emoticon

I guess I'll just have to try "pea" recipes to see what I like. I think I like them cold rather than cooked.

Yeah, the sauce tasted like glue. I agree, canned peas aren't as good but will do in a pinch. I like to put defrosted frozen peas (uncooked, just run them under cold water to thaw) and put them in green salad.

I love peas in casseroles--am not happy if they are missing.

I think it's more the taste. I like snap peas and peas in a pod. Just not like canned or frozen peas. That sauce sounds so nasty! lol My mom used to put them in cassoroles and I hated them. It seemed the taste would take over.

I do like Garbonzo's. Yummy!

Is it the texture or the taste of peas that you don't like? I have always liked them except growing up. Mom always made creamed peas in a thick white sauce. Gross!! Must be a Southern dish because we are from TN but moved to Seattle in '44. I put peas in homemade soup. They are very healthy.

Try some every now and then. Maybe someday you might like them.

Do you like Garbonzo's? I think they are from the same family. I like them in bean salad.

Hmm well, maybe you can tell me how to love peas more. I know they are really good for me.

Yes, I like cabbage but not saurkraut so much. Cabbage has a "sweeter" taste to me. I love it in soup and coleslaw. Add it to salad.

At the home the cook steamed them and added butter but no salt. I learned to eat food without salt when I worked there. Old folks complained about salt.

Do you like cabbage? To me, Brussel Sprouts (when boiled) taste like cooked cabbage. They can get a little strong though. That's why I add butter and salt. Never really tried them any other way but I'm sure you could could make dip out of them like artichokes. Or possibly dip them in a dressing to taste better.

To me, Brussel sprouts taste bitter. I used to work in a retirement home and they would have brussel sprouts quite often. I would always eat one to see if I liked them yet. Never did.

Hmmm I love brussel sprouts! Especially when you boil them with butter and salted! Ha ha probably taking all the nutrients out of them by then huh?
