Take time today to relax:

Do something you've wanted to try but haven't.
Practice deep breathing.
Start that book.
Take that nap.

For those of us in the US, this Independence Day weekend can be crazy...especially if you live on the East Coast with TS / Hurricane Arthur winding its way up the coast. Get ready by TAKING TIME to relax!

Shirl, I make cards too. I think the homemade ones are so extra special. Great that you are making one for the lady that is a vet. Good Job!

I sometimes lead classes for them to make their own cards. Of course I do all the precutting and stamping, but they enjoy arranging the parts to their liking, and they have a choice as to the verse inside.

If this was your last day, how would you spend it?

I will take time today to make a birthday card for one of our residents, Agnes, she'll be turning 95 on Monday and is a WWII veteran. Making cards is a way of relaxing for me and maybe I'll even get some Christmas cards made.

Thanks Mauri.

I will be taking the time today and everyday for the next while to touch base with my SIL and hopefully be able to offer her support and encouragement. I can easily do this while I sit with my leg elevated and with ice on it.

Take time today to catch your breath from all the holiday & end of year activities in which you may be entwined. Maybe it's just sitting quietly, reading a book, writing a note, playing a game, watching TV or a movie, or meditating. Just be sure to give your body a rest in the midst of the craziness of the season.

Arghh, I've been taking TOO much time! I've been procrastinating on finishing a term paper from a class in which I got an incomplete. I'm doing it again!

I'm going to take time to sit down with the darn thing RIGHT NOW.

Mauri - I will keep you in my thoughts and get well soon.

Wanda - I hope you have a good time with Shyra. I know that I really look forward to the days I get to spend with my mum.

Thank you for the challenge Mauri. I'm keeping you in my prayers for a quick recovery. Hugs.

I'm taking time this weekend for some Mother-daughter time with Shyra. It's been awhile since just the two of us have spent time together. I'm sure it will involve some "wedding" talk, but also lots of just connecting time.

Today I am going to call some family members I haven't talked to for sometime. We are all in our 70's and 80's so time is fleeting.

I just heard that an old friend in WA state was found murdered. So sad. Presses the need to stay in contact.

Since Kiji got here first today, let's take time today to be kind to ourselves...do something you've wanted to do for you today - read a book, relax, watch a movie, meditate, shop, manicure...whatever it may be that will help you live in positive energy.

For me, it will be a quiet evening at home - no technology other than the DVD player & a movie!

Mauri I like that playing with the animals at the zoo when your work is done, what a neat way to spend Valentine's Day. I have had fun handing out the Valentine Owls to friends and family, I got some pretty big smiles, and that made me feel so good, will be handing more goodies out this evening to family, I love sharing.

TAKE TIME today to do something for yourself.

Call someone you love but haven't talked to in awhile.
Relax a bit when you get home from work, errands or appointments - read a book, meditate, deep breathing - whatever it takes to help restore your spirit.
Play a game with your family.
Watch a TV show you like but haven't seen because of frenzy in your life.

I'm working at an employee health fair at our local zoo until 2 PM...then I'm playing with the animals at the zoo when done!

Enjoy the time you take...

Take time today to do something you love or need, even if only 10 minutes...relax, read a book, pray, meditate, call someone with whom you'd love to talk but life responsibilities get in the way, enjoy a special - healthy - treat...

When I get off the Hope Bus, I will have about an hour before I meet John for dinner...primarily for him to use my laptop/WiFi...in that hour, I am going to talk a walk at Colt State Park in Bristol, RI. That park is the reason I moved to this side of our state and I never seem to have time to walk along the ocean. Today is the day!

Your challenge: to take the time today to really appreciate each moment. We get so caught up in living in the past or future that we sometimes forget that we really need to be living in the moment. Watch a small child...they know how to live in the moment. Have a great and wonderful day because you choose to.

It's a rainy day and I am going to relax and read my book "The Crowning Glory of Calla Lilly Ponder" by Rebeca Wells.

Take time on Thursday to review your goals, revise your journey, remember someone you love, take care of yourself...something that you don't make the time to do.

Will be shopping for a gift for the baby shower for Sunday, with two of my girls.

Love those kitties, a great way to spend some time.

I might just take a long, hot, soak in the tub this evening and maybe even do my finger nails, I hardly ever take time to do that. Thanks Mauri.

Again I am late...so will save my idea for next week...

I thought we can still manage to take time with a half day ahead of us.

Take time today to be kind to yourself...spend quiet time alone or with a loved one. Give yourself a manicure. Read a book. You get the idea.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My PLAN is to relax when I get home after 7 pm. No checking work emails when I get home....just quiet time with my kitties.
Dec. 1, Take time today to treat yourself...
Take a nap
Start a book you've been wanting to read
Treat yourself to something you've wanted
Spend time with someone you miss by visiting or calling
Or do 2 of these
treat yourself!
How will you treat yourself today? After baking all afternoon, this evening watched a Christmas movie and now watching the CMA Country Christmas special.
How did I treat myself today?
1. I kept a positive attitude, thus had a positive day with those I was in contact with.
2. I ate healthy.
3. Treated myself to one candy from the treat bowl at work as I was leaving work. (thus avoided the temptation to go back for another)
4. Read a book in the evening.
5. Gave my eyes a rest from the computer by limiting my time on the computer when I got home from work. ( I work on a computer all day at work)
Yep, it was a good day.
Although I didn't get to this one until this morning (Friday), I can say that I did the challenge without even realizing it! I sat down and watched the finale of "So You Think You Can Dance" last evening all by myself. I don't often sit down and just watch TV. Usually I'm up and down and still doing things, listening to the TV rather than actually watching it.
Spent some time in meditation also.
Hey... I just found the challenge for the day AND I even completed it. LOL Woo hoo... lol
Today I enjoy some alone time (about 4 hours :)) while my hubby went to town. Then I went shopping and wandered through the dollar store just enjoying being out of the house. Even found a new napkin holder for the table. It's got sea shells on it... Perfect hehehe... (splashing) It was a good step for me today. Thanks for the challenge Shirl.
Hi Shirl,
To treat myself today, I sat and watched a movie and knit some cotton dishcloths. Then I shared an afternoon snack with two of my children at the table. That was a nice treat. We had a small bowl of stir fried vegetables together. They're nice people and I enjoyed having a mini-meal with them. Thanks for reminding me that I'm worthy of treating well. I sometimes forget. Have a great day.
Love,
Nancy
April 7 Take Time Thursday:
Sometimes we get so busy in our lives doing this, that and the other, that we forget to take the time to just appreciate the beauty in our day.
Take the time today to appreciate your day and enjoy the blessings that are provided to you. Slow down and enjoy the moments.
Oh, Wanda, this job of mine is teaching me that the universe gets it...and I need to be aware of that! This morning I sent a FB friend request to an artist who works with us because I want to invite her to do art therapy aboard the RV for cancer patients and survivors...2 mins. later my boss sent me an email she received from Mary Jane asking how to contact me to see if she can offer an art therapy class on the RV!! SCARY!!
Mauri...this is too funny...I did the positive quote of the day based on my word of the day "time" and then I scrolled down to see what today's challenge was....had to giggle when I saw "time" was the challenge. Do you think the universe is trying to tell me something???
*grin*
I will take time today to be gentle with myself and others. I will focus on "time". Thanks Mauri.
For most of this, this holiday season can be hectic...and if you're like me, work can really take it out of you.
So, your challenge today is to TAKE TIME for yourself...do something to take care of yourself...
Try deep breathing exercises.
Take a walk outside - if sun, revel in it; if rain, remember it feeds the earth...and us by restoring water to our reservoirs.
Buy yourself a trinket if you're out shopping for others.
Eat healthily.
Read a book.
Watch a comedy.
Listen to your favorite song.
What else can you do?
I took some time to do some meditation, then sat down after supper and relaxed with a good book. AHhhhhhh.
Thanks Mauri for reminding me that I need to relax too.
I made two batches of cookies for the coffee hour tomorrow, I love to bake, just don't need it sitting around the apartment, so these things give me an opportunity to bake, but not have it sitting around for me and DH to get into, though the one batch is healthier than store bought cookies, whole wheat peanut butter, and the other was pastel cookies you make with fruit flavored fruit jello and I used sugar free jello and the recipe only calls for 1/2 cup sugar. I feel good about making homemade and not just running to the store and buying goodies that are full of sugar and fat, so this makes me feel good.
Take time today to do something that will make you feel better. That could be getting a project on your to-do list done, relaxing, walking outdoors, spending time with a friend or family member...Whatever it is that will make YOU feel good.
Though I have a busy day and friends are taking me to dinner for my b-day (which was in February - first chance to get together!), when I get home, no computer or TV...I'm going to sit quietly with some classical music and do my fave thing - READ for pleasure! (Will let you know if I actually do it!)
I took time to do several things I've been wanting to do, but just kept pushing aside, like start a few seeds for my garden pot. I also went to watch some of the softball game....very relaxing.
It's been a good day DS came over and installed microsoft office 2007, got my CD-ROM working and hooked up an external drive so I can backup files, now if my internet would just work right, I'd be so happy. DS took us out to lunch to Applebee's I had a lovely salad and water to drink.
Take time today to do something you really enjoy and that will help you relax...realizing that you are as important as all the others in your life.
--------------
With registration this week as well as several extra meetings on top of it, I've become more stressed as the week progressed. I'm taking off a couple of hours this afternoon to just chill out. I don't need the stress and I decided to do something about it.
Mauri, how appropriate this challenge is for me today!
I've not been taking care of resting my body the way I should be, in order for a complete recovery from the flu. Today, I will take the time to have a nice relaxing bath.
I don't know if it's just that it's the busiest time at the Cancer Council combined with trying to close down the Council, but I seem to be losing whole days. So, totally selfish today, I thought I'd make this our challenge for Thursday.
After my review, I've tweaked them a bit to encourage me to focus more on cardio since I've let that go. Building on strength exercises at first 'cuz I didn't want to overextend myself and then feel like I was failing. This will also up my steps count since they are pretty low (in the 2700-2900 range).
I just got here and I will have to take time to review as I get ready for bed. I will write my ideas in my journal that I started in the New Year. It's a journal that I bought in an airport in 2007 that had two entries in it. Good intentions don't you know. Pleasant dreams ladies and thanks for all the thought you put into the daily challenges. I appreciate and applaud your "taking(the) time." Thanks
I review my goals usually once a week usually. I'm still trying to find just the right book/journal to use for this year. I keep the journal with me at all times so I can read through my goals for the year and accomplishments as well as favorite quotes any time I have a few spare minutes. It really helps keep me on track.
It's the Jim Rohn philosophy of keeping a nice blank journal with you so when you get a great idea or hear something that you want to remember, you have a journal to write it in so it's in a "permanent" place (as opposed to writing it on whatever paper is handy). I have found it to be a very useful and practical idea.
So far I am really liking what I've done for this first full week of Jan. and am thinking what I can do differently next week to get more benefits from the next week. Reading the book The Spark is helping to really focus on the things that are going to get me to my goal.
Taking deep breathes and letting go of the worry of higher prescription cost, it'll all work out, placing it in His hands.
Thanks Mauri...I'm liking what I've started and I've made some adjustments to getting my steps in each day. I still need to get a replacement battery for my pedometer as that really helps me stay on track.
I'm heading back to work next week, so my routine will once more in place...always a plus for me.
Have a great Thursday.
Now that it is almost a week since we've put our 2010 goals/plans/words/resolutions in place, TAKE TIME to review them as you re-enter your normal life schedule after the holidays.
TAKE TIME also to breathe deeply and relax!
As you say goodbye to 2009, be sure to let go of the bad and bring all of the good with you!
Take time today to think about what it is you are going to bring with you into 2010!
I am leaving behind all the things I did wrong and work really, really hard to do more right things in 2010. I like my word tenacious and am going to work hard at being a very tenacious woman in 2010.
----------------------------------------
I finished my goals last night for the coming year. There are many. One goal I had for 2009 was to make a new friend. When I wrote that, I wasn't sure if or how that would happen. Sometimes I make goals because I am moved to do so, not knowing how they will come to fruition. I did not know about SP at that time. Now I have many friends. Cyber-friends, perhaps, but friends all the same. I thank you all for the support and encouragement and inspiration.
I will leave behind the frustrations and fears and sadness of the past year. I bring forward hope for the beauty of things that I cannot yet imagine. I know that God is watching over us. I see His hand when I look for it. I have to trust in Him even more in the coming year.
Tina
As I looked back on the what worked and what didn't for me in 2009, I realized that I needed to really commit once again to begin as healthy as I can be by making it a point to track my nutrition and exercise. When I slack off in those areas, I stop moving forward.
I will use Encouragement to move myself forward. I love my word for this new year. I will remember to use it on myself as well as for others.
I will continue to strive to be all that I have been created to be. I will do it through the lessons I have learned in the past year as well as by being open to new opportunities of learning.
Happy New Year everyone!
For my Spark journey, I reviewed my 2009 plan and took the things I still need to do and revamped the things that didn't really help with my journey, creating my Spark Plan 2010.
In my personal life, I am reviewing my CONNECTIONS (my word for 2010) with people - professionally and personally...how can I make them better? should I let go of some?
I'm letting go of the negatives that I recognize - the "tapes" that run in my head from my past...
I'm bringing the progress I've made in forgiveness, compassion, serenity, motivation with me.
I think of the people who have to work on the holidays when many of us don't have to, such as retail workers, restaurant staff and gas station attendants.
Oops, I guess a couple of these were already mentioned. I'd also add those who operate the snow plows to open up our streets. They are always out in the worst weather.
Thinking about the hubbub of Chanukah, Christmas, Kwanzaa and mostly the end of the year, that we need to be reminded to TAKE TIME for ourselves, to enjoy our families and friends...including our Spark Mates...and to acknowledge all the service people in our lives. So...just 5 minutes today for each of these blessings:
1. Ourselves
2. Family and friends
3. Mail carriers and those behind the scenes
4. Newspaper carriers
5. Market clerks
6. Sales people
7. Janitorial staff at our workplaces
8. Trash collectors
9. Office staff at our doctors, lawyers, etc.
10. Banking staff
11. Dry cleaners' staff
12. Laundramat staff
13. Library staff
14. Wait staff at restaurants
Can you add to this list??
15. Taxi drivers
16. Flight attendants and flight staff
17. Transit drivers
18. Co-workers
19. TSA workers
20. Spark People Staff
21. Teachers(excited children for the holidays)
Shirl, what a great activity.
Like you and Marla, I always make sure I have time for silent prayer for the cancer patients, survivors & their families that we serve...for my SP buddies...for family...and today I am including those who are affected by these heavy rains in New England and elsewhere...and those affected by droughts.
Shirl - This is a wonderful challenge. Thank you for it.
I try to take the time for silent prayer daily. I even pray for the animals.... and I pray for the road kill I see along the roads.
I uplift my brother Sam in prayer. He has cellulitis. I also uplift my ex, Bud in prayer.... whose whereabouts are unknown... that he might have a change of heart & at least try to get in touch with his children and grandchildren. I also forgive him for all the wrong he has done to me and the kids.
Those are my special prayers today.... We have Bible Study at 10 and the Pastor always asks if we have concerns for anyone.... I always pick someone I know who is hurting or in pain. But, Shirl, that's a good idea to think of strangers and pray for them too. Thank you.
My prayers for all of you.
Marla
Filling in for Wanda today.
Let's take time throughout the day to uplift others in prayer, just take a few minutes while you are doing dishes, sitting at your computer, waiting in line at the grocery store or just taking a break and say a prayer for someone you know in need, or for a stranger who looks like they are having a bad day, or for an ambulance racing down the road for it's driver and the person they are transporting, you get the idea. Prayer is such a powerful thing and can just take a few minutes. Have a prayerful Thursday.
Philippians 4:6
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.
