Today I had my usual fruit smoothie for breakfast. For lunch I Vegetable and beef soup and for dinner i had chicken pot pie with veggies!

Great challenge today, Wanda. Thank you.

Had a kiwi for breakfast, lentil veggie soup for lunch, and not sure what dinner will be. Most days I do get my 5, simply because I don't eat meat. :)

Well for breakfast had 6 oz, tomato juice, will have some lite fruit for lunch, mixed frozen veggies and goulash which has kidney beans, diced tomatoes and onion, don't know about supper.

Jan 6 Motivation Monday!

Fruit and Veggie Challenge:

Everyday your body needs 5 servings of fruits and veggies. If you eat one or two portions with each meal and have the occasional fruit snack you might be surprised at how easy it is to eat five-a-day.

At breakfast you could:

add a handful of dried fruit to your cereal

eat half a grapefruit or an apple

drink a glass of fruit juice

At lunch you could:

eat a bowl of salad

have a banana sandwich

have some fruit salad

At your evening meal you could:

add vegetables or pulses to your curry, casserole or stir fry

serve at least two types of vegetables with your fish, chicken or meat

And don't forget, when you fancy a snack, reach for an apple, banana or perhaps even some dried fruit.

I will use it as I am tempted to pass by my treadmill or my bike. I will also use it as I reach for unplanned food in the kitchen. I need to persevere if I am going to get healthy.

Dec 30 Motivation Monday!

Success for me is a day that I am within my food ranges, met my water goal, had my fitness, preferably before 7 PM.
But, that is not success unless I have tracked it.
Then, I need to repeat daily.

Healthy eating success for me has a few components:

1. Drinking at least 8 glasses of water daily.
2. Not skipping any meals.
3. Eating within my nutritional guidelines.
4. After a long day of work, avoiding the temptation to eat from a drive-thru fast food restaurant and instead coming home to eat a healthy sandwich or meal I've prepared.

What are your reality goals for December. I know we all want to lose all the rest of the weight we "need to" but that's not reality and December is such a stressful time to even think about dieting. So, lets not think about it as a diet, it's healthy eating and healthy living. Right! Let's hear it, RIGHT! emoticon

December is the month to remember that "should" and "have to" are not words that we are using. Remember that the words are "If I want to, I could". They also are words that help to keep things real. And this applies to everything in your life not just the healthy eating.

Here's mine:

If I want to, I could lose the 2 pounds that will take me to the next level at the end of December. I could be at 270. But, if I don't I will not gain any pounds and the Christmas season will be a success.

I think this is a GREAT question to think about! I think, for me, part of what motivates me *now* is not wanting to lose the progress I've made...not wanting to edge backwards and start yo-yoing and gaining again as I have so many times before. I'm feeling too good lately and I want that to continue.

I push myself to start activity, whether walking or biking, or whatever. (I may not like it, but I start it). Once I get started, and wake up my body, the motivation comes because I do not want to waste the effort I have already put in. Each workout achieved seems to cause me to see if I can do the next one better.

Wyndy, I did make the butternut squash with chopped green apples, cinnamon and I used pecans since I already had some. It was delicious and one of the women with whom I work asked if I would mind if she took the leftover squash home to share with her family today. I had no problem doing that since John & I are going out to dinner, and I had saved a container for us.

I did everything to taste. So steamed the squash, mashed it and added the apples, cinnamon & pecans. I baked it for about 20 minutes, covered. I'm thinking as I write this that next time I may try roasting the squash so it is cubed with the rest of the ingredients.

Great Challenge Wyndy

1. Since the US is having Thanksgiving this week, come up with a NEW recipe for your vegetables that is healthy and isn't a salad. Will have to come back to this one.

2. Thanksgiving means lots of leftovers so how about cleaning out the fridge from top to bottom and making room for delicious leftovers that won't get lost in the chaos.

I am having a friend over Sat. and will send some leftovers home with her.

3. Exercise can also be calming and a stress release; do a mild exercise to keep limber and stress free before the chaos starts. Will try and do some kind of exercise in the morning of the day we have our family Thanksgiving.

1. I have already been to one Thanksgiving dinner(Sunday after church) and I made a healthy sweet potato and pumpkin casserole dish.
2. i am going to aqua zumba for my stress free workout
3. And i got rid of all the leftovers over the weekend

Wyndy, great challenge!

1. Actually found a butternut squash recipe that uses chopped apples with cinnamon & nuts, and no butter. They will decrease unhealthy fats while increasing healthy fats in the nuts, and upping the fiber with both nuts & apples.

2. Cleaned out leftovers on Saturday, using some cooked veggies for toppings on whole wheat English muffins, instead of cheese.

3. Will add some exercise when I get home from work today.

Your challenge today:
1. Find a new exercise that you have not as yet tried and give it a go. You just might discover it`s easier than you thought.

2. At least 30 minutes of exercise today.

3. Set a goal for yourself for the day and then one for the week. My goal for this Monday is to keep control and make wise food choices tonight at the Thanksgiving potluck.

Goal for the week to increase my exercise time.

Whoa. Hold everything. I have a tracker. They only count exercise as a workout for 10 minute minimums, though of course every step is counted. So, every 2 hours, I will do 10 minutes. I may try to beat the system, but refuse to let it beat me.

It's been awhile since we have done this challenge: For every hour that you are wake today, do five minutes of exercise. Push yourself if need be to get it done. If you are awake for 6 hours then you will have accomplished 30 minutes...see what you can do.

Your challenge today is to keep your body moving. This means at minimum 30 minutes of exercise today. If you aren't able to do the whole 30 minutes at one go, then break it down into smaller segments. A body in motion is using up calories faster than a stationary body.

I challenge everyone to do as many push ups as you can through out the day. I have done 40 and aim for 100.

Do more of what makes you healthy

You can crumble or you can conquer

The only way to finish your workout is to start

My motivation for Monday and thee rest of the week is to take care of me in any way that i can. Whenever under a lot of stress, I often forget to eat right, get the required rest I often need and exercise. Oh and BREATHE once in a while emoticon

Your challenge today is to take one of your goals and really motivate yourself to be successful in it today.

What is your goal:

To increase my exercise today, got an hour walk in this morning but want to add more exercise than just that to my day. Will come back later and post what else I was able to work in.

I added 30 min. of stationary bike to the hour walk, so got in 90 min. of exercise today, a slight increase.

How are you being patient with achieving your goals?


My BIG goals are ongoing. I know that there are no instant results, so I stay patient by tracking the small daily goals. For instance, I gained a lot of satisfaction today by choosing to not eat a snack in the car on the way home from work. I set the goal of not eating while driving to help me achieve my ultimate goal of losing 50 pounds. I cannot lose 50 pounds in one day, but I can choose to hit my goal of not eating in the car in one day. That satisfaction keeps me patiently hopeful of reaching my ultimate goal.

I don't really think of myself as a goal setter, even though I do have goals, but Wanda, thanks for the reminder that yes the changes we are trying to make in our lives do take time some more than others; and that we shouldn't beat ourselves up about the amount of time some of it takes. By my joining the backontrack challenge it helped me to refocus on why I am here and what this journey is about. I love my Positive Bloggers team for all the positiveness I find there everyday which helps boost my own positive attitude and helps keep me going. Love all of you, as you are the best and I am blessed to be on this journey with all of you.

My work schedule is demanding and I was frustrated with trying to achieve my goals. I revamped my goals as part of what I call my *SPARK* RESTART plan. I've limited them to activities that will help me be mindful of what are healthy practices, and am patient with myself if I don't achieve it on occasional days, rather than seeing it as a failure. It has made it easier to hop "back on the horse."

I have set some big goals for myself and given them a good length of time to achieve them in. Then I have taken those goals and broken them down into smaller segments. Some are monthly, some are weekly, some are daily and some are even hourly.

I put myself first today. I took time to recover from a busy weekend and was suffering the consequences. After feeling rested enough, I went to my Dad's to water his gardens and flowers. He's having a double knee surgery today and will need help with that! Besides I can help myself to all the fresh fruits and veggies I want! emoticon

Took care of me today. Went to our journaling class with survivors at a community hospital. Took two of them home, dropping the second off about 2 PM. Since I was going to have to leave the office at 3:15 to get to Bristol & find a parking space to work at the concert tonight, I called the office to say I was coming home between these two events. That's a hard step, but I did it.

Do you have motivation? Do you struggle with motivation? Sometimes motivation is as simply as saying "I'm okay". When you struggle with motivation, stand in front of the mirror and give yourself a little pep talk. (No negatives allowed!). Positive talk to yourself in the mirror. Give yourself permission to be a success. We often hold ourselves back just because we don't really believe that we deserve to have a great and healthy life. Give yourself permission to love yourself and to be healthy. YOU DESERVE TO BE HEALTHY!

I am motivating myself by going on challenging walks which I hadn't done in 7 years. For instance today I went for a walk over,very hilly terrains where the incline was at least 9%-10%. When I climbed up those hills at first I wondered what the heck I was doing, whether I should just stop and take the bus home, etc. but decided finally I was going to do this step by step even when I got extremely winded. The walk was at least 3 miles long, but I did it ,was glad I did it, and plan on doing it again.

I'm motivating myself to go to the gym after work. I'm eating a good lunch, so I won't be as hungry when I go and I'll stay on the elliptical for 30 minutes.

I just wish my iPod wasn't dead. emoticon

What are you motivating yourself to do today or this week? How are you motivating yourself?



I am motivating myself to accomplish: organizing my computer/craft room this week.

I am leaving the door open to the room so that I see it every time I pass it, which is every time I go to the family room. I hate clutter so that in itself is very motivating.

Choose one goal that you determine to do today and just do it! Only you can motivate yourself, others can encourage you, but you have to be the one to take action.

What one thing to you want to say by the end of the day..."I did it!". Set your mind to be successful at that thing and go for it.

April 22 Motivation Monday



Everyday your body needs 5 servings of fruits and veggies. If you eat one or two portions with each meal and have the occasional fruit snack you might be surprised at how easy it is to eat five-a-day.

At breakfast you could:

add a handful of dried fruit to your cereal

eat half a grapefruit or an apple

drink a glass of fruit juice

At lunch you could:

eat a bowl of salad

have a banana sandwich

have some fruit salad

At your evening meal you could:

add vegetables or pulses to your curry, casserole or stir fry

serve at least two types of vegetables with your fish, chicken or meat

And don't forget, when you fancy a snack, reach for an apple, banana or perhaps even some dried fruit.

My husband, his health problems motivate me to take care of myself so I can be there for him and as things keep improving with him I'll be able to get back to tracking food and exercise and continue my journey to a healthier me.

April 8 Motivation Monday!

Who is your strongest Motivation? What are doing to ensure that you are the healthiest you can be?


My strongest motivation, even though she is no longer with me, is my Mom. She taught me so many things. The best examples that she gave me were that I needed to be responsible for my own health, I needed to release any negatives that were holding me back and I needed to treat my body as the gift that it truly is.
I strive each day to start my start my day with reminding myself of how blessed I am and all the good things that happening in my life. I let go of the things that do not serve me and I am working at keeping my life medication free by living as healthy as I can.

At this time last year, as many of you know i could not walk, my Amazing husband helped me out of bed, chair, walk, etc. He was and is my Motivator he Loves me so much the three days i laid in bed and said NO, leave me ALONE, it Hurts, I was 260lbs, body twitching and muscle spasms, he said babe if you lay there you will HURT More and May never walk again. Please for me, he was crying, I snapped out of my self pity, and he said Thank You, from that day on. I started caring about his feelings too, of watching me, and him being helpless. After my dr appt with a Neuro surgeon he referred me for physical therapy, and HERE I AM A YEAR LATER 30 lbs gone, 14 inches gone, walking and So Blessed My Husband Loved Me Enough He Got Me Out Of Bed and the Help I Needed, and It Also Made Me A STRONGER Person With Alot Of FAITH emoticon Now I eat right , Work Out 5 days a week any where from 45 min- 100 min. You Have To Start Somewhere If Your Going To Get Anywhere Is My Motto Now, I Love Me Again.

Today is a new day and a start to a new week. What are you doing to motivate yourself to become the healthiest you can be?

1. I will meet my goal of walking each day, using the stairs at work also.
2. I will be mindful of what I am eating and choose wisely in my food selection.

I was just reading a SP article on making your own contract and it mentioned how often we put others needs in front of our own to our own detriment. I think it's necessary and good for relationships to learn the art of compromise, but I seem to take it to the extreme. It's okay for me to pursue the life goals that are important to me, I don't need to compromise 100% of the time. The secret is, of course, knowing when it's a deal breaker and when it isn't.

I think yesterday I learned how important and wonderful it is to relax sometimes. I spent the day with my new kitten and my dog, studying, and working some overtime. Then I made myself a nice snack, a cup of tea, and took a long bubble bath by votive candlelight with the scent of lavender in the air and peaceful music in the background. It was very nice and I feel really good today.
