I decided to pick "Learn Mandarin Chinese".

This week I poked around and learned about the eBooks branch of our public library. (Houston has nice system!) I downloaded all the necessary reader programs to participate and I even checked out a couple of e-books. They have videos and music available also. Pretty darn cool. They also have an online course to learn languages. So as of today I have registered for a mandarin chinese course of study. I am on my way. I'll report back when I know something.

Marla, You might check out your local Senior Citizens Center on the quilting. Ours always has a quilt set up and differnt people working on it all the time. Someone is working it at least five days a week. They even help others who just want to learn how to do it. Just a suggestion dear one.

Thank you, Wanda, for this challenge! I've so wanted to learn to use Skype for making long distance calls from the computer. It's very simple, I hear. Don't know what's holding me back, since I've taught myself so many software programs in the past. This will open up so many doors, as I have family living all over the place, from Canada, throughout the US, to Mexico. I stay in touch with many via email, but getting to actually speak to them whenever I want is so exciting!

So, if anyone knows about this online service, please jump in!
I'll find out what I can from their website.
I also plan to play around and call my own phone to see how it works before I start dialing others.
Simple enough, I know.

Another one of those many things on my "Someday" list. Thanks again for the push! :)

Hi Wanda,

When I went to meet my boyfriend (now husband) family for the first time I was so nervous I thought I was going to die. He told me just be yourself. That is what I did. Before you know it, your talking and thinking too yourself why was I so nervous to begin with. So I'am going to tell you be yourself. Also, my first few dates with my husband I would bring pictures of my friends and vacations of where I had been so I had something to share and I told him to do the same. It really breaks the ice. I would just bring a positive mindset with you.
You will be fine. Let me know how it turns out.

WOW

This seems to fit with what I started last night. I have a downloaded book called the 70 Day Challenge which I wanted to begin. I decided I'd set the stage and do Part One so I can actually start it in June when work slows down. Who knows maybe I've actually started it already?

Right now though I'm trying to set up realistic goals and I am taking small steps while trying to keep the big picture in mind.

Part One involves 12 days of getting more organized & using time wisely.

DAY 1 - Last night I went over questions about what I want to do vs what I am doing now, why imbalances exist, systems tried, recent stresses and where they fit.

DAY 2 - is about setting up a good morning schedule one that's positive and adds something to the day!

WHAT BETTER WAY THAN POSITIVE BLOGGING!

Day 3 - I don't know yet (and I'm not supposed to read ahead) ...

Thank you Marie for the great suggestion about sharing what we like about Matt. I'm going to add it to my list.

Marla...way to go, you'll be able to enjoy playing a new game now with Kevin and Autumn. Love that you are already proactive with the quilting! Maybe you'll be quilting soon than you thought!

I've chosen "To Learn To Play Backgammon". I watch Kevin playing online... he even taught Autumn the game & she loves it! I want to learn too... so that is my goal this week!

I need to:

1. Really Listen again when Kevin explains the moves to me.
2. Watch him play as he explains what he's doing.
3. Watch Autumn play & she'll love telling Mamaw what to do too!
4. Don't let my mind drift & really concentrate on the game.
5. Get out the regular Backgammon game & play it.
6. Get online & research the rules & regulations.
7. I'm going to be 54 yrs. old next month, but you're never too old to learn a new game!
8. I know in my heart Education is the main thing in learning something new... research, read, observe, listen!
9. Kevin learned this game aboard ship in the Navy... I can learn in the comforts of my own home!
10. Really apply myself & become good at the game.

You all must think I'm silly for wanting to learn a new game. To me, it's a challenge. After all, I can't have Kevin know something that I don't know, now can I? LOL

I'll let you all know how it goes.

Oh... and another choice I had was "To Learn to Make a Quilt". Just this morning I got online to our local message board on the computer to ask if anyone knew where there was quilting classes in our area... crossing my fingers that someone has something going on, maybe in a Church basement or something. Ya never know!

Your outline looks great and covers most anything I could offer. I can't imagine you not making a wonderful impression. The only suggestion I might add is to think of the things you like about their son and compliment them on the values or strong points you feel they have instilled in their son. It usually is a great ice breaker. We mothers always appreciate that.

Here is my selection:

I'm choosing to "learn to make small talk with strangers". I chose this one because on the 31 we are meeting Kaeli's boyfriend's parents and family for the first time. For me this is a big deal...1) I don't want to make a bad impression 2) I know this is important to Matt and Kaeli (they are getting serious)
3) I'm very uncomfortable around strangers and become very quiet, to the point that people sometimes misunderstand me.

I'm so nervous about this, but I know that I need to figure out a way of communicating and being seen as friendly.

My plan: (please if anyone has any advice, it would be greatly appreciated)

Affirmations: I am comfortable around strangers. I can communicate effectively with strangers.

1. Enlist the help of others.
2. Ask questions about the family's interests from Kaeli or Matt.
3. Remind myself of my affirmations.
4. Choose to be comfortable. Act how I want to be seen by others.
5. Be prepared with some general topics of interest to everyone before getting together. Something other than the weather!
6. Remind myself that they are possibly just as nervous about this meeting as I am.
7. Meditate.
8. Ask for God's guidance and peace. Surround myself with the White light of the Holy Spirit.
9. Wear clothing I am not only comfortable in, but feel good in.
10. Smile, try not to look terrified.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

11. Let Matt's family know what we appreciate and like about Matt. (Thanks Marie)

Hugs,
Wanda

Challenge for Jan 25 to Jan 31

This weeks challenge relates to Writing Wednesday's challenge. If you didn't do Writing Wednesday challenge, it's not too late!

Your challenge this week is to select one of the five things you'd like to learn and begin taking active steps to achieve it. Research it, find out more, make a plan on how you can obtain it. Maybe it's just jumping right in and doing it, maybe it's saving even a dollar a week until you can afford to do it, maybe it's enlisting someone's help. How ever you bring it about...just make the decision to do it!
We are no longer going to live in the "if only" or "someday", we are going to begin creating the life that we want, the skills that we want and get excited about learning.

Post which item you have selected (putting it in writing helps to create it) and outline a plan of how you are going to achieve it. If you can think it, you can create it. Don't forget to post your results!
Let's get excited about learning, but most of all let's have some fun.
