Hi, Lisa!

I am also a Teacher. It's nice to have some expanded foods that are different from the Blood Type Diet. I like this one better.

Are you and DH the same genotype, or is he interested in trying it?

I've not had fiddleheads - how do you prepare them? I went to the recipe section of the GenoType diet website and didn't see any information for them (or didn't know where to look). Look forward to hearing more about your journey to feeling better!

Read Genotype Diet this weekend and did some of the measurements. Teacher fits me to a T. Kind of difference from Type A diet, but more dairy available - love that. I had some fiddleheads for the first time today. DH and I both enjoyed them. Also found some Tinkyada Brown Rice Pasta which I heard was good. Looking forward to seeing how this food list makes changes vs A blood type.

Also - found the tips on D'Adamo's website - Daily Tip at the bottom.

As I read the genotype life tips posted on this forum, I find that the Nomad fits me best. When I read the Genotype descriptions here, I identified with the Gather for my body shape, but the Nomad for my thinking and lifestyle. After reading the book, I thought I was an Explorer although I think that was because it could be any blood type, however I wasn't a negative blood type. So confusing.

I am an O+ and the Nomad is for B or AB types so the food suggestions just won't work. Has anyone else run into this type of discrepancy? Which did you follow in the end?

I love these daily posts from 2009 about the different genotypes. Does anyone know where I can read these online? I have a terrible time finding things on Dr d'Adamo's site!

I have just figured out my genotype. I originally thought I was a Gatherer, but after reading the book I have a lot of Explorer also. But my body since my teen skinny years has been the Gatherer.

Thursday: The GenoType Life

Wind Down Before Bed
One golden rule that every GenoType should heed: Never go to bed stressed. Here are a few tips to set your nighttime mind at ease.

Hunter:
Creativity is a great way to ease a Hunter's tension. So put your detail-oriented mind at ease by sketching. Just grab an artist's pad and pencil and spend time in the evenings letting your inner creativity (and stress) out onto the page.

Gatherer:
A hot sauna is one of the best ways for Gatherers to soothe their nerves. To get the steam benefits without having to venture to the nearest health club, try a nice hot shower before bed. Let the beads of water wash away stress for a good night's rest.

Teacher:
To balance out your daytime stress levels, try to tap into your inner spiritual energy through a relaxing yoga or tai chi DVD. Realigning the balance will help your body settle into the nighttime lull of sleep.

Explorer:
An Explorer's accident-prone nature makes relaxing with a funny movie or sitcom in the evening a great, safe way to unwind. You'll laugh away worries without any unexpected "oops" moments that could add additional stress.

Warrior:
If you're feeling wound up in the evenings, try something that has been shown to have a soothing effect on a Warrior's stress level: meditation. Find a quiet spot, close your eyes halfway, and focus on a mental picture that calms your nerves. You'll be ready for z's in no time.

Nomad:
If you've got something on your mind before hitting the sack, it's best to talk it out with a friend, family member, or partner. Clear your head and you'll allow sleep to drift over you much easier.

Recognize Your Potential
Adapting to a new diet can be challenging. But by listening to your body and following your specific GenoType diet plan, you'll soon see why this is exactly what your body needs to be in tip-top shape!

Hunter:
Your resilience makes it possible to reverse any damage you may have done to your digestive tract by not eating right for your GenoType. Just follow the Hunter diet and you'll begin to reverse the damage, making weight loss a very manageable task.

Gatherer:
As a Gatherer, you accept the fact that your body is imperfect. You're not about to turn your life upside down just to lose a few pounds. But by following the Gatherer diet recommendations, you'll see an improvement both inside and out without becoming consumed by the task of dieting.

Teacher:
Your inner peace and zest for life make you a happy-go-lucky person. Find calm and happiness in the Teacher diet, and you'll find calm and happiness in life.

Explorer:
You can look forward to a long life thanks to your genes and your Rh-negative blood type. By following the Explorer diet, you'll add health and proper weight management to that prediction of longevity!

Warrior:
If you're feeling as though you've lost some of your youthful exuberance, there's some good news! By adhering to the Warrior diet, you can recapture some of your youthful features and age with the utmost grace.

Nomad:
Your optimism helps you in many aspects of life — and the Nomad diet is no exception. By looking at your diet and lifestyle recommendations with an open mind and anticipating the positive effects you'll soon see emerge, you'll start to smile from the inside out.

Thursday: The GenoType Life

Finding Fun in Fitness
Being active is a key element for each GenoType. But the recommended activities for all the GenoTypes are as varied as you are! Not to worry, though! Each GenoType's exercise list has some entertaining options to keep you motivated and interested. Hey, you might even have some fun!

Hunter:
It's important for Hunters to stay active — that means about 40 minutes of exercise daily. But your workouts don't have to be all work. Throw on your dancing shoes and take a ballroom or salsa class to keep things interesting!

Gatherer:
Toning the muscles with a combination of stretching and resistance training is the best way for Gatherers to banish Toxins. So why not make a splash with swimming? Find an indoor pool that you can use even in bad weather, and dive into this fitness routine that will give you long, lean muscles.

Teacher:
Alternate your exercise routine between vigorous and low-key workouts — this will give you the balance that Teachers so need in their lifestyles. To keep things fun, alternate between a game you enjoy like tennis and a relaxing activity like yoga, and aim to be active at least 40 minutes, four to five times a week.

Explorer:
Let's see you sweat, Explorer, to be sure that you're busting stress and boosting endurance. Maybe you'll find yourself enjoying the more spiritual aspects of a martial arts practice, or perhaps a good game of racquetball will put a smile on your face.

Warrior:
Develop your cardiovascular system and you'll be sure to increase muscle tone. To make it more fun, try a game that combines mental and physical prowess, like golf — without a cart, of course, to get your heart pumping. Rainy day? Stay inside with a vigorous Pilates class.

Nomad:
Get your metabolism revved and it's certain that you'll love your exercise routine. Jogging is a great workout for Nomads. Just keep it interesting by switching up your route now and then and grooving to some motivating music!

The Right Oils for Your GenoType
Choosing the right oils in the proper amounts for your GenoType is an important part of your diet. See and feel results by following these fat and oil tips:

Hunter:
As a Hunter, your reactive immune system leaves you susceptible to inflammation-related health problems. Bad fats increase the risk of inflammation. To keep inflammation and extra weight at bay, aim for a one-tablespoon serving of healthy oils three to nine times a week — especially cod liver, hemp seed, herring, rice bran, and walnut oils.

Gatherer:
Since a Gatherer's body is prone to storing fats, it's best to avoid grains, nuts, and seeds that can slow your metabolism. To keep off extra pounds, stick to three to six tablespoons a week of metabolism-boosting oils such as almond, grape seed, macadamia, olive, and walnut.

Teacher:
Balance in life, as well as diet, is the key to a Teacher's well-being. An undesirable ratio of omega-6 to omega-3 fats can throw a wrench into the proper functioning of both your me-tabolism and your immune system. Keep your oil intake in harmony by consuming three to six tablespoons a week of oils like camelina, coconut, flaxseed, perilla seed, and quinoa.

Explorer:
By banishing Toxins, Explorers can drop pounds and reach a healthy weight fairly easily. Try to steer clear of oils like almond, flaxseed, and sesame to improve your metabolic rate. Instead, reach for one-tablespoon servings of oils like camelina, macadamia, quinoa, and rice bran, three to nine times weekly.

Warrior:
Foods rich in lignans, or phytoestrogens, offer the Warrior protection against hormone-related diseases like breast and prostate cancers. Reach for three to six tablespoons weekly of a lignan-rich oil like flaxseed, while avoiding Toxin oils like macadamia and peanut.

Nomad:
As a Nomad, you are excellent at controlling calories and maintaining a healthy metabolism. To avoid obesity, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease, keep your body in a state of proper health by emphasizing coconut, herring, macadamia, olive, and salmon oils.

Supplemental Support
Every GenoType can benefit from a wisely chosen supplement regimen in addition to a proper diet. Find out what the right supplements can do for you.

Hunter:
Looking to tone down your inflammatory genes, Hunter? Fish oils, butyric acid, probiotics, folic acid, and chromium are a few options that can help lessen the risk of conditions like arthritis, asthma, cancer, diabetes, and heart disease.

Gatherer:
Gatherers are born with thrifty genes. But you can tame this fat-hoarding tendency with supplements like Salacia oblonga, resveratrol, lipoic acid, and green tea extract.

Teacher:
Teachers can regulate their metabolism by keeping bacterial overgrowth under control. Do so by including supplements like thiamine, biotin, curcumin, selenium, quercetin, and vitamin D in your diet.

Explorer:
Amp up your body's ability to detoxify by including supplements like milk thistle and artichoke leaf extract in your diet, Explorer. In addition, plant sterols and calcium d-glucarate can help regulate your metabolism.

Warrior:
Turn down the volume on your thrifty genes and regulate your appetite with supplements like lipoic acid, vitamin B6, and punarnava. And if slowing down the aging process is what you're after, resveratrol and danshen should do the trick.

Nomad:
Improve your cardiovascular and neurological function by including ginseng in your supplement regimen. In addition, Nomads can improve their immune system with larch fiber, vitamin B7, and vitamin B9.

Keep the Weight Off
For some people, it's not losing weight but keeping it off that is the real challenge. Here's how following the GenoType Diet for the long haul will help you maintain a healthy weight.

Hunter:
You're just like a sports car, Hunter — by getting premium fuel, you're going to drive well into old age. And of course, the GenoType Diet is designed to be the best quality fuel for your system. So keep it up and drive into the sunset healthy, thin, and happy.

Gatherer:
By eating the wrong foods for your GenoType, you can clog your cells with sugar and fat — doing long-term damage to your body and making it tough to reach and maintain a healthy weight. But by learning which types of calories are going to make your metabolism run clean, you are ensuring a healthy weight in the future.

Teacher:
If you were to keep forcing meat on a system that can't properly digest animal fats, it would be pretty tough to maintain your ideal weight. So stick to your vegetable- and seafood-based GenoType Diet and reap the rewards of a toxin-free, smooth-running metabolism. The rewards being a fit, trim body, of course.

Explorer:
Explorers can modify the genes that cause poor detoxification by eating the right mix of foods for their GenoType. So don't just avoid foods that you think make you gain weight — emphasize foods that will cleanse your system properly while nourishing your blood and bones. You'll be happy with the results for life.

Warrior:
Warriors who only recently learned that a Mediterranean-style diet of grains, oils, and fish could help keep them lean and healthy may have been discouraged by the inability to lose weight. But now that you're on the road to weight loss with the GenoType Diet, you're ensuring that you'll grow old as a healthy thin person. Congratulations!

Nomad:
Nomads need to blaze their own trail into a healthy life. But the GenoType Diet is a great basis for that healthful lifestyle. Stick to a wide range of foods while avoiding foods that might upset your system and you'll certainly find the road to a healthy weight for the rest of your life.

A GenoType Don't
Each GenoType's Toxin list is made up foods that can interfere with the proper function of your body. If you've been wondering, "Why can't I eat that?" — here's the reason.

Hunter:
There are a number of grains, nuts, and seeds that can interfere with the proper function of insulin in Hunters. This can slow your metabolism and make it difficult for you to lose weight. That's why foods like poppy seeds, peanuts, and wheat are among your Toxins.

Gatherer:
Foods that are high on the glycemic index can produce big swings in a Gatherer's blood glucose and insulin levels, which can leave you susceptible to heart disease and diabetes. For this reason, it's wise to avoid such Toxins as white-skinned potatoes.

Teacher:
Ever wonder why you shouldn't eat Teacher Toxins like cornstarch, sugar, and soda? It's because starches and simple sugars encourage microbial growth in your intestines, which can lessen the efficiency of your immune system.

Explorer:
Besides mozzarella, ricotta, and paneer, cheese is pretty much out when it comes to an Explorer's healthy food options. The reason: Many dairy products contain Toxins and molds that can interfere with your natural detoxification process. And as you know, detox is the path to weight loss for Explorers.

Warrior:
Why are there no recommended red meats for Warriors? Because red meats and all sources of trans fats inflame your arteries and thicken your blood. This burning of the arteries can lead to accelerated aging.

Nomad:
Blue cheese and vinegar are among two of your Toxins, Nomad. What do they have in common? They both contain mold and can irritate your intestinal lining. Avoiding these foods can help you stave off inflammation and fatigue.

Add a Kick with Condiments
Condiments can really add a boost of flavor to food. Find out what the condiments and additives specific to your GenoType can do for your meals.

Hunter:
Hunters can sweeten things up with either agave syrup or blackstrap molasses. Need to thicken a sauce? Go for arrowroot or locust bean gum. And mustard powder can add a great kick to savory dishes.

Gatherer:
For a sugarless sweetener, Gatherers can look to the sweet herb stevia. To draw out the flavors of your food, use natural sea salt. And plum vinegar adds a salty, slightly fruity zing to salad dressings.

Teacher:
There's nothing like honey to add some sweetness to many foods and beverages. If you like mayo, Teacher, go for tofu mayonnaise. And to add some saltiness to your savory dishes, look to sea salt or soy sauce.

Explorer:
Explorers have plenty of options for sweetening foods — from honey and rice syrup to maple syrup and molasses. And if you're looking for a mild, savory seasoning, epazote is great, especially in Mexican dishes.

Warrior:
Warriors need to avoid additives like high-fructose corn syrup but are free to use sweeteners like maple syrup. Other additives that are Warrior Superfoods are barley malt, mustard powder, nutritional yeast, and soy sauce.

Nomad:
Like Warriors, Nomads have to watch out for hidden sugars. But maple syrup, honey, molasses, and rice syrup are all okay as far as sweeteners go. For a savory twist, add epazote or sea salt.

A Weakness to Watch Out For
Your GenoType has a handful of weaknesses to watch out for. Read on for one specific vulnerability and how to combat it.

Hunter:
Given their amazing energy levels, Hunters need to take extra care of the organs related to mitigating stress. Sure, you can go, go, go — but properly functioning adrenal and pituitary glands require periods of rest and calm after physical exertion. So be sure to find downtime in your hectic day.

Gatherer:
Your metabolic thriftiness can cause you to eat for the wrong reasons, Gatherer. When you eat, your body tends to remove nutrients from the bloodstream so efficiently that you feel the need to eat again and again without satiety. But by getting the right foods for your GenoType, you are helping to combat this cycle and teaching your body to store only some — not all — of the calories you eat.

Teacher:
You're a detail-oriented person, Teacher. But if you don't get the proper diet, sleep, and stress relief, this attention to detail can turn into a compulsive disorder. Be sure to stick with your GenoType diet and participate in calming activities that can help quiet your mind.

Explorer:
If you suddenly become sensitive to a certain fat, or find your skin breaking out, it could have something to do with your liver. Explorers' livers spend a long time processing drugs, caffeine, and other toxins. By following the GenoType Diet, however, and eating only the best foods for your system, you are ensuring that your liver gets the break it needs.

Warrior:
Perhaps a Warrior's greatest weakness is the tendency to age quickly once middle age has been reached. Your metabolism, which worked hard all throughout youth, can abruptly stall without the right fuel. So to help your body age gracefully, be sure to eat the right foods for your GenoType.

Nomad:
As you age, it's important to maintain proper nitric oxide function — which can be done by eating the right foods for Nomads. With the wrong diet and lifestyle choices, you become susceptible to problems with your immune and circulatory systems as well as with your brain function.

How Competitive Should You Be?
Some GenoTypes are motivated by competitive sports, while others do better with an easygoing activity. See which category you fall into, and learn how you can use that knowledge to your athletic advantage.

Hunter:
You're always up for a little adrenaline boost, Hunter. Which is why both moderate competitive sports (think volleyball) and intense competitive sports (think basketball) are activities that can keep you active for your recommended 40 minutes per day.

Gatherer:
Your highly motivated nature makes competitive sports a nice activity to throw into your fitness mix. For a low-key challenge, take to the greens with nine holes of golf. For a more challenging, one-on-one test, go for a tennis match.

Teacher:
You take a pretty calm approach to everything, including sports, Teacher. So while competitive sports aren't really your thing, you can really get your heart pumping with a friendly game of tennis or racquetball.

Explorer:
The mental challenge offered by an opponent will probably get you moving, Explorer. So include both moderate competitive sports like tennis and volleyball and intense competitive sports like martial arts and soccer in your fitness repertoire to keep you fit and active.

Warrior:
You like to keep moving, Warrior, but you prefer to work out on your own terms. If you do find yourself with a partner willing to challenge you for fun, go for a tamer sport like golf or tennis.

Nomad:
Your fun-loving nature makes it easy for you to enjoy sports both with an opponent and without. But to challenge yourself to some intense cardio, find a game of basketball or soccer to join, or consider studying martial arts.

Wednesday: GenoType Toxins and Superfoods

Go for Your Greens
Get your phytochemicals and antioxidants by eating your greens. Here are a few greens that your GenoType should eat, and one or two to avoid.

Hunter:
Getting your fill of greens is no problem for you, Hunter. Your Superfoods list features many leafy greens: kale, dandelion greens, escarole, mustard greens, Swiss chard, and turnip greens. Just take it easy with spinach and collard greens — you'll want to avoid them for a while and then reintroduce them slowly to see how your body reacts.

Gatherer:
Get a green crunch by enjoying the raw or slightly cooked forms of greens like asparagus, celery, escarole, fiddlehead ferns, and zucchini. Greens like broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cucumbers, and kale are foods you should avoid initially to help your metabolism.

Teacher:
The best greens for Teachers are artichokes, arugula, kale, dandelion greens, escarole, fiddlehead ferns, grape leaves, kelp, and turnip greens. However — sorry, Popeye fans — spinach is a Toxin to be avoided.

Explorer:
Explorers need at least four daily servings of live foods. So give your body a green boost with Superfoods like arugula, asparagus, beet greens, broccoli, escarole, dandelion greens, romaine lettuce, and kelp. But it seems you were right to refuse to eat your Brussels sprouts all those years — they are Explorer Toxins to be avoided.

Warrior:
Avoiding a green Toxin like asparagus should be no problem with the Warrior's plethora of green Superfood choices. Aim to eat plenty of artichokes, beet greens, Brussels sprouts, kale, dandelion greens, endive, escarole, mustard greens, scallions, and spinach — you need at least four cups of live foods per day!

Nomad:
Go for greens like asparagus, beet greens, broccoli, grape leaves, kale, romaine lettuce, mustard greens, spinach, and Swiss chard to get your boost of phytonutrients. Scallions and collard greens should be avoided by Nomads initially, but go ahead and ease them back into your diet after a while if you like.

Tuesday: GenoType Science

Risks You Can Lessen
Just as each GenoType has amazing strengths, each one has health risks to watch out for too. Learn what health problems you're at risk for, and see how you can reduce this risk by eating the right foods for your GenoType.

Hunter:
You already know that without the proper diet you're at risk for inflammatory diseases like asthma and allergies, Hunter. But did you know that by following the GenoType Diet and avoiding mold-containing foods, fungi, and simple sugars, you're helping soothe your intestinal lining and thus warding off inflammatory gut problems too? Count it as one more reason to stick with your GenoType Diet.

Gatherer:
Gatherers are at risk for high blood pressure, heart disease, and diabetes, but the risk of all three can be lessened if you maintain a healthy weight with the proper diet. Your GenoType Diet goes one step further in protecting you: When you avoid high-glycemic foods, your blood glucose and insulin levels stay in a healthy range.

Teacher:
Teachers face a high risk for breast cancer, especially later in life. And while Teachers rarely require hormone replacement therapy, you may discover that sensitivity needs to be restored to your own hormones. By following the GenoType Diet, you are ensuring that your anticancer defenses are on high alert, which may allow you to avoid any hormone-related therapy whatsoever.

Explorer:
Liver problems run in your GenoType, Explorer. But you can help your body clean up toxins by getting plenty of polysaccharide nutrients, which are found in the plant foods in your diet. You'll be promoting a healthy liver and bile ducts with this important detox component.

Warrior:
Rich sources of lignans (or phytoestrogens) like flaxseeds, sesame seeds, and fruit can help ward off a number of potential Warrior diseases. Breast and prostate cancer, osteoporosis, cardiovascular disease, and inflammation are just a few. Of course, your GenoType Diet is specially designed to steer you in the right disease-fighting direction.

Nomad:
The intense tiredness that Nomads are up against is caused for the most part by one disorder: hypoglycemia. But by sticking with the GenoType Diet, you are helping your body keep your blood sugar levels in an optimal range, which helps you avoid spikes in blood sugar and debilitating fatigue.

Monday: Eating Right

A Bevy of Beverages
Of course, plain old water is good for every GenoType. But if you're in the mood for something a little more tasty, try one of these suggestions.

Hunter:
Aim for two to four servings daily of drinks like juice (cranberry, grape, grapefruit, pear, and pineapple) and tea (chamomile, gingerroot, green, lemon balm, rooibos, and yerba matΓ©) for a health boost that also quenches a Hunter's thirst!

Gatherer:
Gatherer Superfood juices include cranberry, elderberry, noni, pummelo, and watermelon. If you're in the mood for something hot, go for teas like black, chamomile, green, ginseng, lemon balm, and yerba matΓ©.

Teacher:
Teachers will derive great benefits from including coffee in their weekly drink routine, as well as teas like black, chamomile, gingerroot, ginseng, green, and roselle. In addition, a dose of vitamins is supplied by fruit juices like cherry, cranberry, elderberry, grapefruit, and pineapple.

Explorer:
Juices like cranberry, goji berry, and pomegranate are Explorer Superfoods that are bursting with antioxidant benefits. For antioxidants in hot form, go for a mugful of green tea.

Warrior:
If you think red wine and coffee are your vices, Warrior, think again. They're both Superfoods that can do your body good. When you drink them along with juices like cranberry and elderberry, and black and green teas, you're ensuring that you'll be in great shape!

Nomad:
Nomad, you're the only GenoType who includes beer in your list of Superfoods. So go ahead and enjoy a glass of ale with a meal once in a while. In addition, emphasize carrot, celery, cherry, grape, and grapefruit juices, and gingerroot, ginseng, green, licorice, and verbena teas.

Thursday: The GenoType Life

Eating Out
Of course, sticking with the GenoType Diet is easiest when you're in control of every ingredient that goes into your meals. But if eating out is the only option, try this type of cuisine.

Hunter:
You're a meat eater, Hunter. So why not try a steakhouse? A charbroiled steak with asparagus and a baked sweet potato on the side would be the ideal Hunter Superfood feast.

Gatherer:
You need a lot of protein, Gatherer, and fish and seafood are a great source for your GenoType. So the next time you eat out, hit a seafood restaurant and order a nice yellowfin tuna steak pan-seared in olive oil with a side of wilted spinach.

Teacher:
A mainly vegetarian dinner spot suits your GenoType well. So head out for Chinese, Teacher. Go for fresh tofu mixed with vegetables like bok choy, enoki mushrooms, scallions, carrots, and ginger and a side of brown rice for a completely balanced, plant-based meal.

Explorer:
Nourishing your blood and bone marrow is a great way to cleanse your system, Explorer. So visit almost any traditional American restaurant for a bowl of broth-based soup. Since most red meats are off-limits, stick with lentils, turkey, or fish as the main protein.

Warrior:
A Mediterranean cuisine like Italian or Greek is a no-brainer for you, Warrior. How does roasted fish with garlic and artichokes sound for tonight's meal?

Nomad:
You have some unusual red-meat Superfoods, Nomad, so why not try a restaurant specializing in wild game? Caribou, goat, moose, and rabbit are all fine choices. Add a side of Parmesan-crusted broccoli and cauliflower for one rich meal.

Wednesday: GenoType Toxins and Superfoods

Which Pasta Is For You?
There's nothing like a comforting bowl of pasta to warm you from the inside out. But perhaps traditional-flour pasta isn't your GenoType's best option. Learn more now.

Hunter:
Have a hankering for pasta? Go for 100 percent artichoke flour pasta — a Hunter Superfood. Just a half-cup serving gives maximum health benefits.

Gatherer:
Cleanse your cells of metabolic by-products while enjoying a favorite carb. Look for 100 percent artichoke flour pasta while avoiding traditional semolina pasta — a Gatherer Toxin.

Teacher:
Soybean pasta and 100 percent artichoke flour pasta are choices that will optimize your metabolic rate, Teacher. Experiment with different toppings to keep these unusual kinds of pasta delicious and interesting.

Explorer:
Spelt, rice flour, and 100 percent artichoke flour pastas are all Explorer Superfoods that can help your body detoxify and boost your metabolism. Stick with half-cup servings for the best health boost.

Warrior:
Pastas made with rice flour and whole-grain, spelt, or sprouted wheat are all Warrior Superfoods that work well with your GenoType Diet and can help you slow the aging process.

Nomad:
Nomads should avoid any pastas made from wheat or soy, as they are Toxins that can interfere with a smooth-running metabolism. Pastas made from rice flour and oat flour, which can be found in many supermarkets, are a good alternative.

Tuesday: GenoType Science

Your GenoType Background Story
Each GenoType evolved from a unique ancestral challenge. Find out what type of environment your ancestors endured and learn how the conditions they faced contributed to the person you are today.

Hunter:
Faced with an inordinate number of challenges, including hunger, climatic conditions, and infectious diseases, your ancestors developed a pretty serious attack mechanism against germs and bacteria. So when foreign substances invade, your body takes care of them pronto. Plus, in response to those days of famine, you are super-capable of metabolizing the meat that is so integral to your diet.

Gatherer:
Your ancestors endured long periods of famine, starting from before birth. So your body is wonderfully resourceful at storing each and every calorie you ingest — just in case! To rev up your sluggish metabolism, be sure to eat enough of the right foods, mainly Gatherer Superfoods.

Teacher:
The emerging trend of migration led your ancestors to be quite tolerant of a varied number of bacteria, microbes, and viruses. This is great news in that you're not likely to overreact to harmless intruders. Although your tolerance could leave you susceptible to more serious conditions, you're helping your immune system become a bit more protective by following the GenoType Diet.

Explorer:
Trying to escape the ice that perpetually blanketed their land, your ancient relatives moved again and again. These glacial refugees developed a quirky way of coping with ever-changing circumstances — they did things their own way. This means that you modern-day Explorers can take things as they come.

Warrior:
Your ancestors had little in the way of agriculture, and trade was often disrupted by war. Warriors therefore developed a useful metabolic strategy: When they had enough to eat, their metabolism was stoked, and when they were inactive, their metabolism slowed way down. Same goes for you today, so be vigilant about maintaining adequate activity levels.

Nomad:
Ancient Nomads used the horse as a means to cover large amounts of territory. The varying climates and terrains they ranged over led your ancestors to develop a certain amount of tolerance so they could cope with each environment. This limited tolerance benefits you — while you don't overreact to bacteria, you don't tolerate harmful viruses either.

Monday: Eating Right

Healthy Living Through Live Foods
Live foods are plant foods, such as vegetables; they boost your intake of enzymes, fiber, lignans (naturally occurring chemicals found in plants, particularly flaxseed), isoflavones (a class of organic compounds that acts like estrogens in the body and has protective antioxidant functions), and antioxidants (phytochemicals that wipe out tissue-damaging free radicals). Read on to see which live foods work best for your GenoType!

Hunter:
Combat the aging process by filling up on antioxidants. Hunter, you'll find plenty of the antioxidants beta-carotene and lutein in green, leafy Superfoods like kale, mustard and turnip greens, and Swiss chard.

Gatherer:
Superfoods rich in vitamins and minerals will help enhance a Gatherer's genes. Help your body work toward genetic improvement by eating live foods that are rich in antioxidants like celery, spinach, turnip greens, sweet potato leaves, and tomatoes.

Teacher:
Look to Eastern influences when choosing your live foods, Teacher. Your metabolism-boosting, disease-fighting foods are made up of Chinese, Japanese, and Korean cooking staples like bok choy, cabbage, Chinese kale, ginger, scallions, and enoki mushrooms.

Explorer:
A, B, C is as easy as asparagus, broccoli, and carrots for you, Explorer. This is great news, because many of your live food recommendations are readily available at your local grocery store, not to mention appear in many recipes. A couple more easy-to-find Explorer Superfoods: garlic, onions, and romaine lettuce.

Warrior:
It's easy for you to get your live foods in, Warrior, since your GenoType Diet is mostly plant-based and high in the phytonutrients that live foods deliver. Some Superfoods to emphasize are beet greens, cauliflower, kale, endive, escarole, okra, and onions.

Nomad:
As herders, Nomads were exposed early on to a vast variety of live foods — which shows in your Nomad Superfood recommendations.

Wednesday: GenoType Toxins and Superfoods

Sweeten Up Your GenoType Diet
Craving something sweet? Each GenoType allows plenty of room for treats. In fact, these Super-foods are the perfect way for you to tame your sweet tooth today!

Hunter:
To encourage your Hunter body shape to build lean muscle mass and reduce fat, satisfy your sweet tooth with carob — one of your Superfoods! The pod of the carob tree tastes similar to chocolate, and carob can typically be found in bar, chip, and spread forms. Snack tip: Spread two tablespoons of carob on a sliced pear (another of your Superfoods) for a guilt-free sweet treat!

Gatherer:
Improve your metabolic rate while indulging your dessert craving with a tropical fruit salad. As a Gatherer, you are encouraged to eat tasty fruits like pineapple, papaya, and guava — a winning combination of sweet Superfoods!

Teacher:
Superfoods rich in vitamin B12 provide genetic improvement in the Teacher's body. A great source of B12 is yogurt — one of your Superfoods. If you want to up the sweet quotient, top your yogurt with another Teacher Superfood — like cinnamon or currants!

Explorer:
Explorers require Superfoods rich in iron to provide proper nutrition to the blood and keep their energy levels up. One excellent source is blackstrap molasses (one tablespoon provides 20 percent of your recommended daily iron allowance). Try adding this Superfood to your baking for a sweet boost of nutrition!

Warrior:
Take a stand against that early aging gene that Warriors are known to carry by consuming the antioxidant resveratrol. Your Superfood resveratrol source is grapes. Nosh on a bunch of grapes with the skin on (that's where the resveratrol is stored) or enjoy a glass of grape juice with a meal for the ultimate age-defying Warrior sustenance.

Nomad:
The introduction of nitric oxide is the key to improving the Nomad's metabolic rate. Superfoods high in the amino acid arginine, like raisins, optimize the production and regulation of nitric oxide. So reach for a box of raisins next time a sweet craving strikes and you'll be helping your body speed up weight loss.

Thursday: The GenoType Life

Wednesday: GenoType Toxins and Superfoods

Super Salad Topper
Combining oil with either vinegar or citrus juice makes a classic dressing that complements nearly any fresh produce. Top your salads with these GenoType-specific ingredients.

Hunter:
Hunters should choose from camelina, flaxseed, olive, pumpkin, sesame, and walnut oils for optimal heath benefits. And while Hunters would be wise to steer clear of all types of vinegar, lemon or lime juice will blend with your Superfood oils for a perfect dressing.

Gatherer:
Gatherer Superfood oils include almond, camelina, grape seed, hazelnut, oat, and olive. Combine these with umeboshi plum vinegar for a salty, unusual addition to your Gatherer GenoType Diet.

Teacher:
Almond, chia seed, coconut, grape seed, herring, quinoa, and rice bran are all oils that enhance a Teacher's health and diet. As with Hunters, Teachers should avoid vinegar, but go ahead and add lemon, lime, or grapefruit juice for a tasty salad dressing blend.

Explorer:
Your Superfood oil options vary from babassu, chia seed, and quinoa oils to herring, salmon, and macadamia nut oils. And while white, red wine, and plum vinegars appear on your Toxins list, feel free to experiment with any other neutral vinegar of your choosing.

Warrior:
The oils of almonds and almond kernels, as well as cod liver, flaxseed, olive, pumpkin seed, and walnut, are excellent options for you, Warrior. All types of vinegar are among your Toxins, so go for lemon, lime, or grapefruit juice as a blending agent.

Nomad:
Nomads should emphasize Superfoods like almond, camelina, evening primrose, hazelnut, macadamia, and olive oils for maximum health benefits. And while white, wine, and plum vinegars are all Nomad Toxins, feel free to try other vinegars, as well as lemon, lime, grapefruit, or tangerine juice, for a perfect dressing.

Tuesday: GenoType Science

Smile!
It may never have occurred to you that the shape of your jaw or features of your teeth could suggest anything about you. But each GenoType has different characteristics of the mouth that indicate a lot about ancestry.

Hunter:
The scooped-out appearance of your front teeth indicates your meat-eating past, Hunter — a definitive clue that you will do best on a carnivorous diet. Combined with your masculine, squarish jaw, your mouth proclaims you a strong Hunter.

Gatherer:
Gatherers have an extra cusp (Carabelli's cusp) on the upper front molar. This is a sure sign that your ancestors — who survived famine and scarcity — ground grains and vegetables with their teeth. Your round jaw is indicative of the high levels of estrogen present while you were in the womb.

Teacher:
It's common for Teachers to have an extra molar cusp, which points to the fact that your farming ancestors relied heavily on grains and vegetables as a food source (as you still should today). However, your square, masculine jaw is a rarity among non–meat eaters.

Explorer:
You have spadelike incisors, indicating meat eating among your ancestors. In addition, your square, wide jaw exemplifies their powerful, carnivorous nature.

Warrior:
Warriors often exhibit soft, oval jawlines and long, almost egg-shaped faces — a commonality among non–meat eaters who were exposed to higher than normal estrogen levels in the womb. Because of your mostly vegetarian diet, you probably have an extra molar cusp.

Nomad:
Your Nomad's herding ancestry is evident in the shoveled, grooved appearance of the back surface of your upper front teeth. And the smallish nature of your teeth in general is an indication that your ancestors belonged to milking societies.

Monday: Eating Right

Choose the Right Carbs
Certain carbohydrates are healthy and nutritious for your GenoType. Learn which types you should emphasize.

Hunter:
Your Hunter sensitivities necessitate limiting your intake of gluten- and lectin-containing carbohydrates. Instead go for buckwheat, millet, quinoa, and basmati, brown, and wild rice.

Gatherer:
Your thrifty genes do well with low-glycemic carbohydrates. Artichoke flour, amaranth, barley, oat bran, and teff are great choices. Aim for half a cup of grains two to three times a day.

Teacher:
Teachers should limit their intake of carbohydrates that cause bacterial buildup. Up to five times daily, go for a half-cup serving of carbohydrates like flaxseed bread, kudzu, lentil flour, rice flour, and sorghum.

Explorer:
Explorers should emphasize carbohydrates like amaranth, Essene bread, fonio, millet, and quinoa, consuming them two to three times a day. In addition, a variety of rices are recommended for your diet, including basmati, brown, white, and wild.

Warrior:
Improve the white lines on your fingerprints by eating low-glycemic carbohydrates like barley, kudzu, lentil flour, poi, pappadam, rye, and wheat bran. Aim for two to three servings a day.

Nomad:
Like Hunters, you will want to limit your intake of lectin- and gluten-containing carbohydrates. Nomads do well with flaxseed bread, fonio, Job's tears, larch fiber, oat flour, and poi. A half-cup serving two to three times a day is recommended.

Thursday: The GenoType Life

Wednesday: GenoType Toxins and Superfoods

You Say Potato
Root vegetables are a popular choice for a side dish or light lunch. Learn which root vegetables are right for your GenoType.

Hunter:
Add parsnips, a Hunter Superfood, to your soups and stews to boost vitamin C, manganese, and folate. Their mild, nutty taste lends a characteristic flavor all its own. Other Hunter Superfoods: rutabaga, sweet potato, and turnip.

Gatherer:
One of your Superfoods is the ever-popular yam, Gatherer. They taste great whipped up like potatoes, baked in wedges like fries, or sliced in rounds and baked for homemade chips. Even better news: They're a fantastic source of vitamin A.

Teacher:
Boost the potassium in your meals by adding red or golden beets — a vibrantly colored Teacher Superfood. Their sweet taste and firm texture make them a great addition to salads. Two more root vegetables to put on your shopping list: carrots and rutabagas.

Explorer:
When it comes to radishes, Explorers have two varieties to choose from. Go for traditional red radishes when you're looking to add a crisp bite to a vegetable platter. And choose daikon radishes when you're looking to add a mild, zesty crunch to stir-fries.

Warrior:
One small rutabaga contains 80 percent of your recommended daily dose of vitamin C. So these slightly sweet, firm cruciferous veggies make a great choice if you're feeling the need to boost your immune system, Warrior.

Nomad:
If you've never tried celery root, now is the time, Nomad. Its mild celery flavor makes it taste almost like a fresher, crisper version of a potato. A blend of roasted vegetables containing celery root, carrots, and rutabagas (two more of your Superfoods) would make a splendid side dish.

Tuesday: GenoType Science

Fingerprints Like No Others
Your GenoType has a unique and defining characteristic that you can see with your own eyes — the pattern of your fingerprints. That's because each GenoType had different experiences in the womb, which helped formed these unique patterns on the tips of the fingers. Learn about the fingerprint patterns of your GenoType.

Hunter:
The white lines or ridges in your fingerprints don't just indicate wear and tear. They indicate digestive problems, such as an intolerance to gluten or wheat, or a disruption in the lining of your digestive tract. Good news: These intestinal problems can be corrected by closely following the carbohydrate recommendations laid out by the GenoType Diet.

Gatherer:
A characteristic trait of the Gatherer's fingerprint pattern is asymmetry — in other words, Gatherer fingerprints vary from one hand to the other. Not to worry — someone would never notice this just by looking at you. But it does suggest that you had a stressful fetal experience, causing one side of your body to develop differently from the other.

Teacher:
Your fingerprints are typified by the high number of whorl patterns present, Teacher. Whorls can be spiral, oval, or circular rings. This number could be a significant indicator of future cancer risk. By following the GenoType Diet now, you can help reduce that risk.

Explorer:
While loops are the most common fingerprint pattern, Explorers have a fairly rare version of the loop — a radial loop — on their index fingers. This simply means that the loops open toward your thumbs instead of your pinkie fingers. And like Gatherers, you probably have some asymmetry from one hand to the other, signifying an unstable environment in the womb.

Warrior:
A Warrior's trademark is the arch patterns on the thumbs and index fingers. What's an arch? It's a succession of parallel ridges either forming a peak in the center or rising slightly from one side to the other, and it's a clear sign of your GenoType's ancestry.

Nomad:
A Nomad's abundance of ulnar loop patterns (where the loops open toward the pinkie finger) could identify a susceptibility to Alzheimer's disease in later age. To be sure to maintain your cognitive and memory skills, refer to the supplement suggestions specific to your GenoType.

Rev Your Metabolism
Although it might seem as if your metabolism is against you, it's on your side. It may just need some help from you!

Hunter:
It might actually be impossible for you not to lose weight once you start eating the right foods for your GenoType, Hunter. You are lucky to have a body that converts calories into the perfect ratio of muscle, bone, and fat. So eat for your GenoType and reap the metabolic rewards.

Gatherer:
The good news is that you never have to diet again! In fact, Gatherers tend to have bad luck on diets, which rob their systems of vital nutrients — encouraging their bodies to store even more fat. But by eating right for your GenoType, you'll teach your thrifty genes that good foods are coming so there's no need to hold on to fat anymore.

Teacher:
You have a naturally high metabolism, Teacher.
But if your diet contains too much animal fat from meat, you'll build up toxins that will slow that metabolism way down. So be sure to stick to your GenoType Diet to ensure that you're getting the nutrients you need without slowing your metabolism.

Explorer:
Your high metabolism doesn't need much help, Explorer. But you can help speed it up by detoxifying with the GenoType Diet. You'll increase muscle mass while decreasing body fat — a surefire way to drop pounds.

Warrior:
Your thrifty genes encourage your body to hold on to fat it doesn't need. But by eating right for your GenoType, you'll help reprogram those genes, forcing your metabolism to speed up and allowing your body to let go of unnecessary fat.

Nomad:
On its own, your metabolism maintains a decent rate. But by following the GenoType Diet, you'll help your body produce an optimal amount of nitric oxide — which will boost your metabolic rate and increase weight loss.

Thursday: The GenoType Life

Yoga or Pilates?
Both yoga and Pilates confer great benefits, but some GenoTypes do better with one than the other. See which activity you should take to the mat.

Hunter:
Hunters gravitate toward the intense, so Pilates is the way to go for you. Just keep in mind that Pilates is good for your lower-intensity days — so use it as a way to strengthen your core for the more explosive sports you'll be taking part in.

Gatherer:
You'll find that a combination of stretching and resistance training using your own body weight provides a great low-stress workout for Gatherers. Active hatha yoga and Pilates are among the activities recommended to help you get this combined workout. So why not take a class in each?
(NOTE FROM POLY: This is why T-Tapp is the perfect exercise for me. It combines the above mentioned benefits perfectly.)

Teacher:
You have your pick between yoga and Pilates, Teacher. Either form of exercise is ideal for your low-impact activity days. Just remember that vigorous exercise is also necessary to keep your metabolism in balance.

Explorer:
Use Pilates as a core-strengthening tool and you'll find that you will also improve in other areas of fitness. Just remember that you need to work it in order to get results, so make sure you sweat!

Warrior:
Warriors need at least four days of activity each week, and you should incorporate yoga and Pilates into your routine. Go for active hatha yoga for a less demanding workout, and choose Pilates for a more demanding, strength-training activity.

Nomad:
Since a combination of stretching and strength-training is what Nomads need in a fitness regimen, you should partake in both active hatha yoga and Pilates to gain that balance. Aim for at least one of these activities during the week.

Wednesday: GenoType Toxins and Superfoods

Have a Good Morning
Start your day off right with a breakfast fit for your GenoType. Here's a suggestion straight from your Superfoods list.

Hunter:
The perfect start to the Hunter's day is a two-egg omelet with broccoli and onions. Sprinkle it with pecorino cheese for a zesty kick.

Gatherer:
Spruce up a protein-packed breakfast of cottage cheese with a sprinkle of almonds and sliced peaches. You'll be satisfied well into late morning with this one.

Teacher:
Add a taste of the sea by adding bite-sized pieces of smoked salmon to your scrambled eggs. Top with a few capers and you'll have yourself an easy, gourmet morning meal.

Explorer:
Keep your morning routine simple with half a grapefruit and a slice of sprouted-wheat toast topped with 100 percent raspberry preserves. You have enough to think about in the morning.

Warrior:
Warm up from the inside out with a bowl of hot oat bran mixed with chopped apples, cinnamon, and walnuts — a breakfast sure to start you off on the right foot.

Nomad:
Sweeten up your morning cup of yogurt with chopped pecans, blueberries, and honey. Add a steaming mug of ginseng tea and you'll have energy to spare — all day long.

Tuesday: GenoType Science

Spice Up Your GenoType Diet
Not only do spices add a kick to your meals but they can do wonders for your health too. Learn which spices to emphasize for your GenoType.

Hunter:
You can help support your immune system by cooking with spices that reduce inflammation and the effects of stress. Try to include at least one to two teaspoons daily of these spices: anise, chocolate, cilantro, cinnamon, curry, garlic, and turmeric.

Gatherer:
Thermogenic spices can really speed up your metabolism, Gatherer. So add some heat with cinnamon, curry, garlic, paprika, and turmeric for enhanced weight loss.

Teacher:
The antimicrobial action of spices such as basil, cilantro, cinnamon, curry, garlic, oregano, rosemary, and sage can really give your tolerant immune system the boost it needs. Get at least one to two teaspoons daily.

Explorer:
Spices such as cilantro, curry, fennel, garlic, thyme, and turmeric have excellent detoxification benefits for Explorers. Aim to eat these spices at least once or twice a day.

Warrior:
Like Gatherers, Warriors can enhance their metabolic function with thermogenic spices. Emphasize the heat factor with cinnamon, garlic, curry, and turmeric for maximum metabolic benefits.

Nomad:
Throw some exotic spices into your meals, Nomad. Your spice Superfoods include lemongrass, licorice root, and curry. Of course, such traditional spices as basil, cilantro, garlic, oregano, parsley, and thyme also make excellent choices.

Monday: Eating Right

Your Personalized Poultry Picks
Some GenoTypes do well including poultry in their diet, while others might want to limit their intake. Whichever category you fall under, remember to go free-range and hormone-free.

Hunter:
You tolerate most poultry, Hunter — especially the flying varieties, which have more dark meat. Aim to eat four to six ounces of chicken, game hen, duck, grouse, pheasant, squab, and turkey up to four times a week.

Gatherer:
Although chicken is perhaps the most popular poultry around, it's not well-tolerated by the Gatherer's system. The upside is that turkey is on your list of Superfoods, along with emu, ostrich, pheasant, and squab. So you'll easily be able to meet your two to five recommended servings of poultry a week.

Teacher:
Your total intake of poultry should remain rather low — about one to three times a week — since you lack the enzymes to properly digest animal fat. When you do go for it, emphasize birds like emu, ostrich, squab, and turkey.

Explorer:
Like Hunters, you tolerate most poultry very well. So feel free to enjoy emu, ostrich, partridge, pheasant, quail, squab, and turkey up to three times weekly. Remember that a portion size is four to six ounces, or about the size of your hand.

Warrior:
Since all sources of trans fats tend to burn a Warrior's arteries, poultry is not recommended as part of your diet. To satisfy a craving, you may include turkey (a Warrior neutral food) in your diet up to two times per week.

Nomad:
While chicken is a Nomad Toxin, you have several other options like emu, ostrich, pheasant, and turkey. And unlike any of the other GenoTypes, you can handle goose liver once weekly — if your palate is tuned into that delicacy.

Thursday: The GenoType Life

Go Fishing
Nearly everyone can benefit from eating more fish and seafood. So get the most out of this lean protein by sticking with the right seafood choices for your GenoType.

Hunter:
Keep your tendency toward inflammation at bay by consuming oily varieties of fish that are rich in omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids. Eat fish like salmon, trout, herring, flounder, and sole at least four times a week.

Gatherer:
Seafood is ideal for your protein-rich diet, so be sure to eat fish at least four times a week. Your seafood options really run the gamut, so experiment with interesting Gatherer Superfoods like chub, gray sole, hake, harvest fish, mullet, opaleye, perch, turbot, and wolffish.

Teacher:
Sticking with white-fleshed fish will help balance and heal your digestive lining. Enjoy fish like cod, mahimahi, monkfish, Atlantic pollock, and tilapia three to four times a week.

Explorer:
Explorers, like Hunters, can help control their tendency toward inflammatory disorders by getting enough omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids. Some rich seafood sources are catfish, drum, grouper, pompano, turbot, and whitefish. Just remember that Explorers should eat no more than three weekly seafood servings during their first three months on the diet (four servings thereafter).

Warrior:
Oily ocean fish can help keep your spirits high and enhance your ability to cope with stress, Warrior. For a sunnier outlook, eat fish like anchovy, cod, grouper, halibut, mahimahi, salmon, tuna (skipjack and yellowfin), and turbot, as well as octopus, three to four times a week.

Nomad:
You can minimize bacterial growth by getting your share of white-fleshed fish like cod, grouper, halibut, mahimahi, monkfish, orange roughy, and tilapia, as well as scallops. Aim for a four- to six-ounce serving four to five times a week.

What Your Motto Means
Each GenoType's unique nature varies so much from the others that it's possible to sum it up in one phrase. See what your GenoType's motto is and learn what it means for you.

Hunter: Your reactive nature exemplifies the Hunter's motto:
Shoot first, ask questions later. In health terms, this is a great way for your body to keep out dangerous microbes, viruses, and bacteria. The flip side, however, is that your quick reaction to any invader leads to an overreactive immune system that can manifest in the form of allergies, asthma, and inflammation.

Gatherer:
The Gatherer's motto — Whoever dies with the most wins — stems from a lack of food in the womb. By making food a top priority, you are able to ensure that you'll always have enough in times of scarcity. But watch out — in our plentiful times you can easily put on excess weight because of overeating.

Teacher:
Your altruism confirms your motto, Teacher: All you need is love. Your immune system lives by it, in that it doesn't overreact to unfamiliar bacteria and viruses in the form of allergies. Unfortunately, this trait can be a double-edged sword because it also leaves you susceptible to infectious elements. But sticking to the Teacher Diet can help you ward off some of these infections.

Explorer:
As an Explorer, you blaze your own trail in almost every feature — from food digestion to your asymmetrical body proportions. You've been genetically designed to respond quickly to changing conditions and are thus highly adaptable. Your motto — I did it my way — is the perfect summation of your Explorer's attitude toward life.

Warrior:
Because Warriors live life in the fast lane in their youth, your motto — Time flies when you're having fun — is self-evident. Without the proper diet, you could easily fall into the rut of Warriors past — becoming inactive and rapidly gaining weight. But by sticking with the Warrior Diet, you're ensuring a graceful ascent into old age.

Nomad:
A new career in a new town is the Nomad's motto. Because your ancestors traveled from place to place, you have an innate ability to tolerate many varied environments. The good news is that unlike the Teacher's, your immune system is a bit more selective about which kinds of bacteria to be tolerant of — helping you avoid such inflammatory conditions as asthma and allergies.

Thursday: The GenoType Life

Set a Fitness Goal
If incorporating exercise into your life is a tricky challenge, perhaps you need a little push. Try these physical activity goals for one week to see if they help you get moving.

Hunter:
As a Hunter, you require intense daily activity to maintain your top level of fitness and health. For your goal, dedicate about 45 minutes a day to vigorous walking. When you feel that famous Hunter energy burst kick in, step it up to a run. Just keep the pace brisk so you don't lose interest.

Gatherer:
A good fitness goal for a Gatherer is to alternate hatha yoga with aerobics every day for six days. Get DVDs or find classes at your health club. And take one day off for rest to avoid burnout.

Teacher:
Teachers can keep their metabolism in balance by participating in 40 minutes of activity at least four to five days a week. Aim to balance tai chi workouts with alternating days of resistance training this week to see how you feel — you'll probably have tons of energy for your two days off!

Explorer:
Alternate days of Pilates and aerobics classes for four to five days this week. Be sure you sweat out the toxins for an effective workout. This goal will keep you fit and cleansed — see for yourself!

Warrior:
Warm up to a fitness routine with four days of stretching and strengthening exercises this week, Warrior. Try 30 to 40 minutes of hatha yoga on two days, and light resistance training on the other two.

Nomad:
On three days this week, take a vigorous walk. Once you have that down, boost your efforts by carrying 2-pound weights along with you on two additional walks. If this goal seems too easy, next week boost your weight level to 3 to 5 pounds, according to your fitness level.

Wednesday: GenoType Toxins and Superfoods

Is Soy for You?
A number of soy products are available nowadays. But this protein-rich member of the pea family is not suited to every GenoType. Find out here whether soy is for you.

Hunter:
Soybeans, soybean meal, tempeh, and tofu are all Toxins that Hunters should avoid. Fortunately, your carnivorous diet supplies you with excellent sources of protein in several Hunter Superfoods.

Gatherer:
Soy in most forms is a Toxin for you, Gatherer. To decrease body fat, avoid soybeans, soy flour, soybean meal, soy pasta, tempeh, and tofu. Get your fix from the health food store with flaxseed — a Gatherer Superfood!

Teacher:
Teachers can help maintain the integrity of their DNA by enjoying soy-based foods rich in isoflavone antioxidants. Include soybeans, soy pasta, sprouted soybeans, tempeh, and tofu in your diet regularly.

Explorer:
Soybeans — whether in the form of whole beans, miso, pasta, tempeh, or tofu — will inhibit genetic repair in Explorers. Avoid soy in order to optimize your metabolism.

Warrior:
Your diet does well with most types of soybean products, including edamame, miso, tempeh, and tofu. Unlike most other GenoTypes, Warriors can reap anticancer benefits from soy, so eat up!

Nomad:
Soy products have a tendency to inhibit a Nomad's metabolism. Avoiding soy is best, although miso and sprouted soybeans are neutral foods that you can test in your diet to see how they make you feel.

Wednesday: GenoType Toxins and Superfoods

Try Something New and Unusual
Each GenoType has an array of both common and exotic foods to choose from. Take this week to try something that you've never had before. Here's a suggestion or two.

Hunter:
Your unique food of the week: aΓ§ai berries. This marble-sized fruit from the Amazon rain forest is bursting with all the good stuff: antioxidants, omega fatty acids, amino acids, iron, fiber, and loads of vitamins. Give it a try in juice or freeze-dried form — it's on your Superfoods list!

Gatherer:
Looking for a variation on the same old oil? Try macadamia oil. Extracted from the macadamia nut, this oil is largely monounsaturated — meaning it's the cholesterol-lowering "good" oil. Substitute it for canola oil (a Gatherer Toxin) for a healthy change.

Teacher:
Since the Teacher's diet should be rich in seafood, give an unusual fish a try. An uncommon yet delicious choice is pompano: a firm, mild, white fish. Pompano is caught in Florida, but if you live inland, ask your local seafood market to get some frozen fillets for you to try.

Explorer:
You're always up for adventure, so go for an ancient Chinese food that you've likely never run across before: lotus root. This vegetable's crispy, fibrous texture is similar in taste to an artichoke. Try it steamed in soups or raw in salads.

Warrior:
While tremendously popular in Chinese and Japanese cooking, adzuki beans are less common elsewhere. But you can find this Warrior Superfood in the canned bean aisle of your local supermarket. Adzuki beans are loaded with non-animal-based protein — perfect for a Warrior's GenoType Diet.

Nomad:
If you're into the finer things in life, you might already be attuned to caviar. And go ahead and eat it; it's a food Nomads should emphasize. But you might mix things up a bit with the roes of carp or sailfish — two alternatives to the typical sturgeon roe. All three are on your list of Superfoods!

Friday: Staying Positive

One Day at a Time
Every GenoType is bound to feel exasperated at some point or another. After all, changing the way you eat is a huge task that takes some getting used to. Use these tips to overcome your specific challenges, and take things one day at a time.

Hunter:
Your tendency to blow up and become aggravated can really inhibit your progress on the GenoType Diet. Take a deep breath, Hunter, and remember that eating for your GenoType is something positive you're doing to better yourself.

Gatherer:
Gatherers might rightly be described as determined, which is a great strategy for you to succeed in life and on the GenoType Diet. Look a challenge in the face, commit to being the winner, and walk away victorious.

Teacher:
Teachers are so tolerant that frustrations rarely get under your skin. On the rare occasion that you feel fed up with following your GenoType Diet, focus on your innate exuberance for life and infuse that into your next meal. Tomorrow your worries will be long gone.

Explorer:
You're smart and crafty, Explorer. So facing a setback should be a breeze for you. Just pinpoint your problem, find a creative solution, and move on. Maintaining this mental balance will keep you healthy and happy.

Warrior:
You may be too busy to even notice an obstacle in your path, Warrior. But by slowing down and assessing where you stand on the road to healthy-weight management, you'll swiftly be able to form a plan that will help you take those steps toward weight loss.

Nomad:
You're great at handling stress, Nomad. So when the punches come in, you roll with them. This is a great mechanism to deal with diet setbacks and frustrations. The next time you feel defeated, tap into that stress-handling gift, and remember that tomorrow is a new day.

Your Grocery Store Strategy
Stocking your cart can be a cinch if you keep the central focus of your GenoType in mind. See which shopping strategy will work best for you.

Hunter:
You're a Hunter, and that means one thing — meat is your primary source of nutrition! Spend time at the meat counter asking for the freshest cuts, and try something new. It's the modern way to mimic your ancestors' carnivorous diets.

Gatherer:
You're all about the protein, Gatherer. Bring along a list of your Superfoods and start your grocery shopping at the meat, poultry, and fish counters. It's a surefire way to reprogram your thrifty genes.

Teacher:
You're so in tune with nature that your shopping path is a no-brainer. You're going to spend most of your time in the fresh-produce department, Teacher! This will ensure you get the phytonutrients your body needs to keep your anticancer defenses up.

Explorer:
Lucky you, Explorer, your GenoType finds something to benefit from in nearly every food group. So bring along a list of your GenoType Diet Superfoods and Toxins and hit the meat, poultry, fish, produce, and bakery departments. You'll find a great variety of food awaits you!

Warrior:
First stop, fish counter. Here's where you'll stock up on essential omega-3 fatty acids. Then head to the produce department where you'll reap the phytonutrient benefits of fresh fruits and veggies. Round things out with healthy oils and grains and your shopping trip is complete.

Nomad:
Your omnivorous diet means that the sky's the limit when it comes to grocery shopping for the Nomad's GenoType Diet. Just shy away from products containing lectin and gluten to keep your energy up and boost weight loss.

What Drives Your GenoType?
Every GenoType is driven to action by very different motivations. See what compels your GenoType to hop to it, and use that knowledge on your journey to lose weight.

Hunter:
The Hunter's fiery and intense personality is strongly compelled by adrenaline. Go ahead and react in a stressful or aggravated situation. But remember to cool your jets often to avoid burnout and exhaustion.

Gatherer:
As a Gatherer, you're always game to try something new. And that's great, because being driven by adventure means that diving into the GenoType Diet will be a smooth undertaking for you!

Teacher:
Teachers are motivated by "the bright side." Your altruism grants you an inner peace that leaves you feeling happy and fulfilled. Use this optimism to find balance in eating for your GenoType.

Explorer:
One surefire way to get an Explorer going is to present him or her with a quandary. Your above-average intelligence makes creative problem solving a strong suit for your GenoType. So feel confident that the next time you're in a pickle, you'll easily get yourself out.

Warrior:
Once you're faced with a challenge, you'll keep ramming a wall until you break through — especially if that challenge is mental. So use your nimble mind and tenacity to conquer life and stick with your GenoType Diet. You're bound to succeed.

Nomad:
Not much gets you riled up, Nomad. You're easy to get along with and tend to see the good in the world. Just be sure to let out your feelings, otherwise you're likely to eventually explode!

Your GenoType Dairy Picks
Meet your calcium needs and stick to your GenoType Diet dairy recommendations with these suggestions. Because when it comes to dairy, each GenoType has different needs.

Hunter:
The upside to your dairy tolerance is that you can use butter or ghee as freely as you wish — so no more dry toast to cut calories! The downside is that most cheeses are Toxins to Hunters. Feel free to top a salad or some artichoke pasta with Parmesan or pecorino cheese, though — those are some good Superfoods!

Gatherer:
Unfortunately for you, Gatherer, cow's milk will not help boost your metabolism, although rice milk would be a good substitution. But don't shy away from all dairy. Some cheesy Superfoods to emphasize are Quark, cottage, farmer's, and paneer cheeses.

Teacher:
Rejoice cheese lovers! Favorites like Brie, Colby, Gorgonzola, Gouda, Gruyιre, Muenster, Monterey Jack, and Swiss can help rebuild your digestive tract. So go ahead and indulge in two to four ounces, four to six times a week.

Explorer:
An Explorer rule of thumb — stay away from blue cheeses like Gorgonzola, Roquefort, and Stilton, which can cause your body to overreact to the molds that make up this cheese variety. You can dig into mozzarella, paneer, and ricotta up to five times a week, though.

Warrior:
Soft cheeses are the ticket for you, Warrior. Like Gatherers, your cheesy Superfoods are Quark, cottage, farmer's, and paneer cheeses. Although cow's and goat's milk are among your Toxins, rice and almond milk are Superfoods you should emphasize in your diet.

Nomad:
The possibilities are nearly endless when it comes to cheese, Nomad. You can enjoy everything from Brie, Camembert, and Swiss to cheddar, provolone, and manchego. Aim for two to four ounces up to four times a week.

Make the Most of Your Metabolism
Each GenoType has a unique metabolism that can either boost or inhibit weight loss. But by closely following your GenoType Diet everyone can maximize his or her potential for health.

Hunter:
If you stick to your GenoType Diet, Hunter, you will take advantage of your superior metabolic profile. By burning the high-quality calories recommended, you'll build a perfectly proportioned physique of muscle, bone, and fat.

Gatherer:
Your thrifty metabolism makes gaining weight a high risk with an improper diet. But by following the GenoType Diet and lifestyle recommendations, Gatherers can shed fat stores and maintain a healthy size.

Teacher:
Foods that encourage bacterial growth can inhibit a Teacher's naturally high metabolism. But by getting adequate exercise and sticking to your GenoType Diet, you'll wipe out toxins and keep your metabolism going strong.

Explorer:
Your body's low percentage of body fat compared to its muscle mass is an example of your naturally high metabolism. Following the GenoType Diet recommendations will rid your body of any toxins that might combat your quick metabolism and help you to stay trim and healthy.

Warrior:
Your Warrior's thrifty metabolism gives you the strong appetite and long, lean muscles that characterize your GenoType in youth. To avoid rebellion as you age, optimize your metabolism with a proper diet based on your GenoType recommendations and enjoy a graceful maturity.

Nomad:
Your Nomad's medium to high metabolism gives you a fairly low percentage of body fat compared to your muscular frame. By sticking with your GenoType Diet you'll avoid foods that cause hypoglycemia and help keep your metabolism in peak condition.

Take a Hike
While some activities are better suited for specific GenoTypes, hiking is a sport that can be enjoyed by all. Learn how to make the most out of your hike.

Hunter:
For a lighter exercise day, Hunters do well with hiking. Keep your pace vigorous and hike at least three miles on level ground. A hike is a great way to get in your 40 minutes of daily exercise.

Gatherer:
Get a breath of fresh air while taking to a hilly hiking terrain. Gatherers who keep a moderate pace for 30 to 40 minutes will increase muscle growth and clear out toxins.

Teacher:
Your outdoorsy manner makes hiking a perfect way to keep your metabolism in balance and increase endurance. Hiking is considered a more demanding activity for Teachers, so keep up your heart rate for at least 40 minutes while taking in the scenery.

Explorer:
To ensure that hiking provides a proper workout, Explorers need to work hard enough to break a sweat. Aim for at least 40 minutes of outdoor trekking that's strenuous enough to get your heart pumping.

Warrior:
Give your cardiovascular system the boost it needs with a moderately paced hike. Mix in some hilly terrain and go for at least 30 to 40 minutes for maximum heart-health benefits.

Nomad:
A moderately paced hike anywhere between 30 and 40 minutes will help enhance your Nomad metabolic function while reducing stress and increasing muscle growth. Seek out hills for a day of more demanding exercise.

Wednesday: GenoType Toxins and Superfoods

What to Put in Your Bread Basket
Bread is a staple of every diet. And each GenoType is free to consume bread — you just need to emphasize the right types of bread to improve health and increase weight loss. Here's a rundown of what to put in your bread basket.

Hunter:
Hunters are prone to gut problems like celiac disease — a digestive intolerance to wheat, rye, and barley. To avoid intestinal damage, stick with breads made from various rice flours and flaxseed.

Gatherer:
As a Gatherer, your GenoType Diet emphasizes low-glycemic foods — those low in sugar and carbohydrates. For your bread options, stick with manna and flaxseed bread, while avoiding most whole-grain varieties.

Teacher:
The wrong bread choices can feed bacteria by leaving a carbohydrate residue in the digestive tract. Avoid bread made from Toxins like durum, sprouted, or white wheat flour, while emphasizing Teacher Superfood breads made from emmer, kamut, and spelt wheat flour.

Explorer:
Spelt or 100 percent sprouted wheat flour makes for an ideal Explorer bread choice, as does essene. Yet white, whole-grain, and flaxseed breads will inhibit your metabolism and should be avoided to ensure proper calorie burn.

Warrior:
A Warrior's metabolism does well with whole grains. Look for breads made from flaxseed, oat bran, brown rice, and wheats like bran, emmer, kamut, spelt, sprouted, and whole grain.

Nomad:
Stick with gluten-free and corn-free breads to avoid irritating your already compromised gut lining. Brown- and white-rice flours make great wheat alternatives for bread flour and won't cause fatigue and inflammation in Nomads.

Tuesday: GenoType Science

It's in Your Blood
Variations in blood and Rh type are just one way that GenoTypes are differentiated from one another. And these differences cause even further variations in each GenoType's body. See what your blood type means for your health.

Hunter:
Your type O blood is prone to inflammatory diseases. Keep your blood running smoothly by avoiding artery-clogging trans fats — following your GenoType Diet will help tremendously.

Gatherer:
Gatherers have either type O or B blood and have a tendency to draw sugar from the bloodstream very rapidly, which causes hypoglycemia. Stick with your GenoType Diet to avoid excess carbohydrates — the main sources of sugar in your bloodstream.

Teacher:
Most Teachers have blood type A and typically have the ancient form of Rh-positive blood. In blood type A Teachers, a fingertip-whorl pattern greater than six indicates that a cancer-prevention regimen should be adopted. Not sure what this regimen consists of? Not to worry — your GenoType Diet is just what the doctor orders!

Explorer:
Explorers can have almost any ABO blood type but are often Rh-negative. It has been found that people who have the Rh-negative blood type are commonly found in parts of the world where people seem to live forever. That's great news for you! By sticking with your GenoType Diet you'll be sure to build up blood rich in nutrients that will help you live a long, healthy life!

Warrior:
Warrior's circulatory systems tend to be a problem area, leaving their type A or AB blood susceptible to clots, high blood pressure, stroke, and heart disease. Not the best news. However, the good news is that by sticking closely to the Warrior GenoType Diet, you'll nourish your arteries and heart and improve circulation.

Nomad:
Following your Nomad GenoType Diet will keep your type B or AB blood healthy and free-flowing. Emphasizing Nomad Superfoods optimizes your cardiovascular system and helps keep blood-sugar levels at a proper level.

The Right Red Meats
For some GenoTypes like Hunter and Gatherer, eating the right types of red meat is essential for maintaining your metabolic rate and losing weight successfully. But other GenoTypes do better avoiding red meat altogether. See which red meats (if any) you should emphasize in your diet.

Hunter:
Think organic and wild game and you'll ensure success on the Hunter GenoType Diet. Aim for three to five servings weekly of cuts like beef (including liver and tongue), bison, and lamb.

Gatherer:
Due to a Gatherer's inclination to store fats, your body tends to accumulate man-made toxins. Since red meats are an essential part of your GenoType Diet, stick with lean, organic meats like buffalo, caribou, goat, lamb, and mutton.

Teacher:
A Teacher's GenoType Diet is mainly composed of a wide variety of fresh foods, grains, and seafood. While most red meats are not a wise choice for Teachers, goat and mutton can be consumed up to two times a week.

Explorer:
The Explorer GenoType Diet is meant to increase muscle mass while decreasing body fat. Stick with leaner, rangier cuts of meat, such as goat, lamb, mutton, and rabbit, and soups made from bone marrow to keep your ratio of good to bad fats in check.

Warrior:
Your modified Mediterranean-type diet should be high in fish, oils, grains, and fresh produce. While there are no red meats that are recommended for you, Warrior, you may indulge in one serving a week. Just steer clear of red meats like bison, ham, lamb, pork, and venison.

Nomad:
Lucky you — you don't need to worry too much about fat content when considering your red-meat choices. Feel free to include fattier cuts like beef and calf liver, in addition to caribou, goat, lamb, mutton, and rabbit in your carnivorous repertoire.

Working With Your Worldview

Each of the GenoTypes has a characteristic way of responding to the environment. That's because each GenoType developed in response to very different challenges. Check out how your worldview will help you in your quest to become healthy and happy.

Hunter:
Hunter, your inflammation-based worldview causes you to be highly reactive. While inflammation can manifest itself negatively in the form of allergies, your reactive worldview enables you to handle stress like a true champion. If you use those stress-handling abilities to your advantage, sticking to your GenoType Diet will be smooth sailing!

Gatherer:
Your metabolism is thrifty all right, Gatherer.
Because of low thyroid production, staying stick thin is not in the cards for you. But the good news is that Gatherers typically look better and age more gracefully when they're eating enough food. So stick to your GenoType Diet recommendations and say no to restrictive diets for good!

Teacher:
Teachers are tolerant by nature. And while that tolerance can cause your immune system to become overloaded and susceptible to infections, your flexible worldview gives you the calm, steady personality that puts you at peace with your life. Incorporate that quality with your GenoType Diet recommendations and you'll be one happy Teacher!

Explorer:
Your reactive worldview stems from your glacial relatives who survived under the most unlikely of odds: Surviving on ice floes 12,000 years ago! Because of this, your worldview is to think creatively and forge ahead no matter what. Use this instinct to follow your GenoType Diet and you'll find the metabolism boost you need.

Warrior:
Your body stores calories as fat thanks to your thrifty worldview. This metabolism-based approach causes your body to hoard food in case of scarcity, but in today's world, this is not a likely scenario. By following your GenoType Diet recommendations and eating properly for the Warrior physique, you will help your body stay healthier, younger looking, and thinner.

Nomad:
As your ancestors traveled from place to place, they developed a tolerant worldview — one which you still possess. This quality comes in handy often since your easygoing nature gives you an optimistic outlook on life. Use that sunny disposition in conjunction with your GenoType Diet recommendations for a happy, healthy future.

Smart Ways to Banish Stress
No matter what GenoType you are, stress does bad things to your body and your metabolism. Here are some stress-busting tips specific for your GenoType.

Hunter:
Great news, Hunter: Your Superfoods help encourage stress relief! Plant sterols and meat-product amino acids control stress both physically and emotionally. So stick to your GenoType Diet recommendations and sock it to stress for good!

Gatherer:
Controlled breathing, like that performed in hatha yoga, is a great stress buster for Gatherers. Just be sure to add a resistance component to your hatha yoga by seeking out an active class.

Teacher:
A walk through a park or along a beach is a great stress reliever for you. Teachers are naturally drawn to and inspired by nature. Nurture this relationship to find inner calm.

Explorer:
Want to bust stress, Explorer? Then break a sweat! Vigorous walking or a fun aerobics class will help you remain cool, calm, and collected — not to mention fit and toned!

Warrior:
Combat one of your main stress hormones, cortisol, by learning to quiet your mind in meditation. Not only will meditation help you keep off abdominal fat, but it will also help with memory by maintaining a healthy metabolism.

Nomad:
Your strong mind-body connection makes mental practices a great way for you to calm your mind and relieve stress. Try closing your eyes and visualizing your stress melting away, Nomad. Picture a calming place or object and use your mental capacity for visualization as a stress-relief tool.

Wednesday: GenoType Toxins and Superfoods

A Cup of Joe: Yes or No?
For some GenoTypes, coffee can do wonders. While for others it can wreak havoc on your system. Which category do you fall under?

Hunter:
Looking for a beverage to wash down your breakfast? Steer clear of coffee — a Hunter Toxin. Instead, fill your morning cup with chilled cranberry, grape, grapefruit, or pear juice. Or have a cup of chamomile tea to soothe and relax you before your day starts.

Gatherer:
Need a caffeine boost? Say no to java, one of the Gatherer Toxins. Instead, find a jolt in other mug-worthy beverages like green, black, or yerba mate tea.

Teacher:
Coffee lovers rejoice: A cup of java is one of your Superfoods! Emphasize coffee drinks while avoiding colas, both diet and regular, to jolt your metabolic rate and help you shed pounds.

Explorer:
Explorers have a notorious caffeine sensitivity, due to the fact that drugs like caffeine tend to linger for longer periods than necessary in the liver. Stick with morning beverages like apple juice or peppermint tea instead.

Warrior:
Coffee is among your list of Superfood beverages, Warrior. For an added flavor boost, try adding another of your Superfood beverages, rice milk, to your morning coffee routine.

Nomad:
Coffee is a Toxin best avoided by you, Nomad. But you have plenty of alternatives in teas like gingerroot, ginseng, green, licorice root, and verbena.

Tuesday: GenoType Science

In Good Company
Every GenoType has a wide array of people who all share common characteristics. See if you can recognize a bit of yourself in one of these famous members of your GenoType.

Hunter:
Your fellow Hunter Michael Jordan proves that those in your GenoType possess the ability to live (and shine) in the here and now. Hunters are great at dealing with unexpected events and have an incredible amount of energy stored up for just that occasion (like a slam dunk, maybe).

Gatherer:
When you hear the words "great friend," "warm personality," "welcoming," and "people-loving," you might think of yourself, Gatherer. But one of your fellow Gatherers might also come to mind: Oprah Winfrey. Like Ms. Winfrey, you probably have many friends and confidants. Enjoy the company!

Teacher:
Let your creativity flow, Teacher, and you'll be happy and at peace. Your artistic soul mirrors that of a well-known entertainer who is also in your GenoType: BjΓΆrk — the Icelandic singer known for original music and eccentric dress. So be sure to find your outlet for creative expression, be it painting, singing, dancing, or writing.

Explorer:
From 1914 to 1967, one Explorer was a pioneer in film and comedy. His name was Charlie Chaplin. As a fellow Explorer, you share some of his admirable qualities like quirkiness and the ability to think outside the box. So put your creativity to good use in life and follow in the footsteps of Explorer trailblazers like Mr. Chaplin.

Warrior:
Julia Child, one of the most charismatic pioneers of television cooking shows, is among your GenoType, Warrior. Like you, she was able to get right to the heart of the matter — in her case giving America what it wanted: an easy way to cook French cuisine. Perhaps her Warrior inclination for memory retention helped her recall all those ingredients!

Nomad:
Wit abounds among Nomads, exemplified by the fact that Sir Winston Churchill is among your GenoType. Known in part for his intelligent and humorous quotes and his speaking style, Churchill illustrates the communication savvy of Nomads — a GenoType others love to listen to!

Friday: Staying Positive
