At least yours let you put him in daycare, mine looked at me like I had lost my mind when I suggested it and then just sat there and watched me until one of the owners decided that kids 10 and up might be able to benefit from a membership (and he'd charge between 20 and 45 a month depending upon what type of membership their parents have). When he turns 5 at the end of October I can put him in the gym's "Big kid" programs for $10/month. They have karate a few times a week and have soccer clinics or bball or free play. Right now, he can only go to the gym daycare, which he hates. Can't wait for October!
Jill -- Depending upon how old your son is, you can add him to your gym membership for an additional $20 and he can work out with you (sort of). I added my 12 y.o. to mine in June and he does treadmill and/or elliptical as well as some strength training w/ the leg press and other machines like that while I do my normal routine. It was, also, a bonus for me because then I had no excuse not to go to the gym and he pushes me to play at least 90 minutes of racquetball with him or spend time in the batting cage when he's with me. He's benefitted because he has more muscle definition now and can do 25 real pushups without whining about it being too hard. Don't know if that helps but it's how I solved my time/childcare issues.
I have a hard time finding time too. I live in Ladson but work in West Ashley so I have a commute that eats up so much time. I think I have it worked out so that I can go into work early so I can leave early and hit the gym before my son's after school program closes. Trying to get home from work and school just to take him to the sitter at the gym just isn't worth all the fuss. And then I feel bad because I'm not spending any time with him. But leaving him in after school for just a little longer than normal doesn't bother him and I still get to do something for me. I can't tell you how long I struggled trying to find a solution that worked. And I know it can't be easy for you without any family near.
Sounds like a plan to me... also, just so you know, I've been told that 2 laps around the outside of the WalMart here is equal to almost 2 miles and there are some beautiful trails throughout Crowfield. If I walk in the neighborhood, I usually pick one of our subdivisions and walk it (Devon Forest has 5 within it). Let me know what day you want to try for...
I actually just bought a three wheeled stroller for this reason. I went walking with my husband and son the other day and it was nice but it is hard on the hubby due to work. He is running around all day and the last thing he wants is to go walking everyday! After things settle down with the storms and all I might have to plan my nights a little more. Before I got pregnant I had gotten the Yoga Booty Ballet workout vids and they were great until the next day and I couldn't move!!! I am not much of a work out in the house type person. I love to be doing things. I might try and go walking around the mall some too at night since that might be a bit safer I would hope!!! We should definitely keep in touch and maybe go walking a day or so a week! I really appreciate your help!
Shayna, I live in Devon Forest and pass by you about 3 or 4 days a week when I go to workout at the World Fitness by Publix instead of using the 24 Hour branch by my house. I, generally, don't like walking at night but I could make it happen if you think it'll help you. Let meknow what time you're thinking about. I find the time to workout as a mom because as I said before, I don't really sleep and haven't since my grandmother died in March. That opens up lots of time for me to do yoga or other workouts. since you seem to have good access to a computer, you might want to try using the online portion of Netflix if you have an account with them... That's where I get many of my workouts from. They have everything from bellydancing to pilates and ball fitness workout videos online for you to watch. I think that's the only reason that I do as much yoga and pilates as I do. As far as walking/running with the hubby goes, I would recommend getting a racing stroller (for running) or just using a regular stroller if all you're doing is walking. I walked everywhere with my son in his stroller... mainly due to the fact that he would only stay quiet if he was in motion. Good luck and hope this advice helps. Let me know if you need me.
So I just moved to Goose Creek and I don't know anyone or anything. I come home and I get to see my baby for maybe two hours before he goes to bed. After that I am so exhausted from playing with him, making dinner and doing house hold chores that I can't find time to work on me! How in the world does anyone find time with a busy schedule and a baby???? I usually get about 30 minutes when I get home before my husband and baby get home to do whatever I can. It just seems that there needs to be more hours in the day! I need like a walking buddy at night or something. I would love to have my husband go with me but who is going to watch the baby? We have no family here and we don't know anyone either. Does anyone want to have a walking buddy that lives in or around Crowfield??? Help!!!! Shayna
