The gym was cranking out old school jams this morning, so I just listened to that. It was 80's and 90's dance tracks. Worked for me.

Skipped the headphones today and listened to the music at the gym. They were playing Classic Rock from the 70's and that was just fine with me.

I need to add some more of that to my mix, something a bit more aggressive. Dance music is good, but it's not Rammstein, you know?

Today was a bit of a heavy mix, 5FDP, some Korn and a little Marilyn Manson. Good for taking out some aggression on the heavy bag!

Lately I've dusted off my collection of Alan Parsons Project (every record released!!) and I'm amazed at how the words to the songs just come right back, even though I haven't heard these songs in ages! Today's music just isn't the same!! (That's a good thing, some might argue). emoticon

I'm loving LaLa.com - it's takes your itunes library and makes it available 'in the cloud' - it's great for work when you have forgotten the ipod.

For the treadmill i'm using Podrunner's C25K (couch to 5k series) which are great for running.

I've tended to stick with the metal (in all its forms) since the late 70s. My kids and I listen to a lot of the same stuff now....they like most of my old and I like most of their new. I hated Slipknot on principle alone until i heard their music and watched some interviews on youtube. Now they're one of my workout faves. Gematria, Psychosocial, Before I Forget......all do it for me. My one guilty admission is that one of my favorite new songs is Poker Face by Lay Gaga. Don't tell anyone........

I've been using a new playlist for the last few weeks when heading out a run that's been giving me great results - when I hear these songs now i just want to hit the road:

Heavy Cross - the Gossip (great for setting the pace, plus those first few minutes always seem like such a heavy cross to bear)
Battle for the Sun - Placebo
Falling - Drapht
Heads will roll - Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Like a Stone - Audioslave
For what its worth - placebo
Bird of Feather - cog
Boom boom pow - black eyed peas (gets the energy levels back up when they're starting to fall)
Mercury - bloc party
Say your last goodbye - cog
Go with the flow - Queens of the stoneage
Chase that feeling - hilltop hoods
Help i'm alive - Metric
Soul to Squeeze - Red hot chilli peppers

I use an iPod at the gym and have various playlists, but the ones that usually keep me going are my wife's zumba songs. mix of hip hop, and latin, and just basically all kinds of songs that have a faster pace as I do a lot of elliptical stuff at the gym and need the faster rhythms! :-)

Today I skated while listening to Quentin Tarantino's 'Death Proof' soundtrack, which was then followed by a mix of Tool, Joy Division, Front 242, Bowie, NIN, and various other industrial/alternative songs.

The other day I skated to the 'Speed Racer' score (awesome). I've been jumping rope to Juno Reactor and a cd called 'Rave Til Dawn', which is early 90's techno.

I've been on somewhat of a musical kick lately while driving. Totally lame, I know. But the musicals were 'Spamalot', 'South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut', and Buffy The Vampire Slayer's 'Once More With Feeling'. Yeah, not your typical musicals!

Great timing, I'd just finished trawling through the DailySpark blog on workout tunes looking for some new motivational music. Hopefully there'll be some great suggestions here!

For myself, I'm currently on more "dance" tunes for cardio, such as Franz Ferdinand (Ulysses), Yeah Yeah Yeahs (Heads will roll and Zero) and Aussie band The Presets (Talk like that and My People) with some Queens of the Stone Age (go with the flow) and Audioslave (Be Yourself and Like a Stone) thrown in to mix things up. Weights workouts are more "heavy" tunes, including Linkin Park and Rage Against the Machine with some Kings of Leon when I want to slow down and focus on my reps.
