I've gotta say - I've tried and failed several times before. This time is different. It's been 14 weeks and I've lost 31.5 pounds so far. What's different this time? I've made it more about God and less about me. I told God that I would change my body as a gift for Him - a show of respect and discipline. It would be much easier for me to quit on me - but I told God this is how I would show Him His importance to me. I've also said that I wanted to be able to use my weightloss to witness to others who will ask "how did you do it?" And I can share with them that I was unsuccessful on my own, but when I gave it to God and made it about Him that he blessed me with success - and it really hasn't been all that hard. I'm running 35 miles week now - just 4 months ago I would have laughed my head off if anyone suggested I try such a feat! God has been good to me on this!

HI Matt,
Congratulations on your weight loss so far. In response to your post lets see how many of us can stand together in agreement to pray for one another as we strive to reach our goals. Thanks for making us aware of this need. Cleveland

The scriptures tell us to ask, believe and receive. By asking I am exercising my faith to believe that I will receive what I ask for. Every day in meditation and prayer I pray and ask God to help me through the day to stay true to my goals and remind me throughout the day when I am tempted to get off the right path. Staying in touch with God on a daily basis is one of the best ways I know to stay the course. Cleveland

Hello everyone,

This is one area that seems to concern many of us; although most will not talk about it or even admit it. I recall Jesus telling us to cast ALL our cares on Him, for He cares for us. Since we are the Temples of the Holy Spirit; we are called into being good stewards of all the things God has placed in our care and keeping.

I have failed miserably over the past couple years in caring for my health by becoming overweight and out of shape. When I repented of this the Lord, through the guidance of the Holy Spirit has led me to this program in order to gain the knowledge to make the neccessary changes. Just what I was praying for. Praise the Lord.

Rejoicing with Power!

I completely agree with all you guys. God is truly my support and it is hard sometimes. I am a middle school pastor in Kentucky and that is wearing enough sometimes to my life but i know that i need to be a positive example to students who don't have a Christian influence in their lives. I want my life to be as Paul says in 1 Corinthians 11:1 "Be imitators of me, just as I also am of Christ." Paul is not saying that he is holy or perfect like Christ but he wants others to imitate his Christ like attitude and daily life. Paul sinned and messed up but his priority was living a life acceptable to God. I want my life to be that. I want to tell my students to follow me if you don't have a good example in your life.
With working out and keeping in shape I am taking care of the Body that God has given me. I want my students to see this not as "Matt is so vain" but as "Matt is being a good steward of what God has given him." That is just my take.

"And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus."

This is a pretty good question. Personally, I give the glory to God when I step on the scale on Saturdays and wait for the verdict. Here lately I've been giving some serious praise to Him for the progress. Over the past two months I'm down 21.6 lbs, and as awesome as that is it is only a reflection of how awesome GOD is.

The past two months have been a real struggle for me and during the times I am discouraged or think this is impossible or I fell like back sliding, I remind myself of 1 Cor. 6:19-20 that says:

"Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body,"

When I'm in the gym and the elliptical or treadmill seems too hard and I just want to quit, I remind myself that it is through my weakness that His strength is perfected (2 Cor. 12:9-10). And after I've pushed thru with His energy/strength, I again give Him praise and say that it was God who finished the feat, I was merely holding on for dear life.

And of course its easier said than done, but before attempting this a person must have faith. After all, as James 2:14-17 says:

"What good is it, my brothers, if a man claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save him? Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to him, "Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed," but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it? In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead."

Call me crazy, but fwiw that's where I stand.

I am also Christian & I believe God will help me reach all of my goals. I believe since I have been praying about my weight, He will guide me all the way. God has already been helping me make better choices in my food choices.

I am Christian too. That helps me to remain positive and focused on my goals. I take the same approach as you, that God will help guide me toward healthy food choices and stay on my fitness and exercise goals.
