Thanks for the update. It is nice to hear they are doing well!!

No foods that have more than 3 ingredients that I can not pronounce.

Status report: The window boxes are holding up GREAT after almost two months! Two coats of spray paint later, and they are like new. I'm so glad I did it.

I got some outdoor spray paint that said it was good for plastic. A nice cross between rust and red. First coat of paint went on the boxes Saturday, and they look so much better already. A little bit of a second coat, and I'll be good to go!

As far as I know, unless plastic is purposefully made porous (for different applications) plastic plant pots are not porous.

If you are going to get your daughter to decorate them, just have her use the garden variety latex paints (nothing toxic) for her to make her masterpieces. I think that you'd have to seal them first though.

I have spray painted some plastic furniture---and that stuff stays on where you put it so it should not be any problem---my bench got some tough use after I did it.

I agree their are spray paints for plastic. I have to respray my plastic furniture as a white powder is coming off. I think doing a plastic liner is good if you are doing veggies but not sure it would be necessary if it is just a plants. Hope you get more feed back.

I know there are paints specifically for plastics now so I can't think why you should not be able to give them a face lift. Don't know about the leaching but you could probably put a pkastic liner between the box & the dirt to stop something like that from happening.

I have 5 decent sized green plastic window boxes on my front porch. They've been out there for a few years, and are starting to get faded. Can I just buy spray paint and spray over them when I replant this year? *thinks* If it's just as simple as painting over old plastic, now that I think about it, maybe I'll give the project to my 8 year old, and see what her little mind comes up with.
But the spray paint won't somehow leech into the plastic of the planters and harm the plants, will it?
