I have discovered some zinnias that are still at it. I cleared out one of my old gardens and now I have some mums, dianthus and a few bulbs I discovered while cleaning it out. I also have pansies in those sorry looking boxes and petunias in my hanging basket again. This summer took it's toll on everything. The basil seeds I planted resulted in one small plant, but the boxwood basil I planted with a tomato are doing pretty well. The trials and tribulations of gardening in North Texas.

I added two pictures to give you an idea of what a record breaking summer of 100plus degree days and a drought can do. I think I have two containers in the back that have basil growing in them that still look decent. I had a few plants make it into August, but August pretty much killed off everything. I took the pictures before I planted my fall flowers. I like to plant pansies in the fall and I planted some petunias in one of my hanging baskets. I have some mums to plant, next. I actually had one that flowered in the spring. It looked all right until August. Now, I'm going to dig up the garden I tried to get bulbs growing in. I'll be putting my mums in there and I think I'll add some dianthus, as well. I'll get some pictures posted when I'm done.

Most of my Geraniums, still flowering. My1/2 wine barrel is still in bloom. The pink baby's breath, ornamental sweet potato vine is do great and an azalea shrub in too small a pot, a neighbor gave to me because she thought it was dying. It is twice the size since I planted it a month ago. Poor thing was root bound. Even my canner pot has taken to the cooler weather and the nastursiums are still blooming. The potted mums, I pinched out some of the dead flowers, and it has sprung back!

Even in Pennsylvania, we dropped down to the upper 30's/low 40's last week. About all that's left are my pumpkins and mums!

HiYa! KERSTIN814 ~
Pheww! That was lucky your plants didn't get hit with the first frost. Mine plants look haggard from the high winds and heat, for the last month and half.

Here in the Okanagan southern [interior of B.C.] we usually get our first frost by the end of October and snow by the middle to end of November. I love the first snow fall, early in the morning. Everything is so quiet and still, before the morning rush starts.

Yep, NW burbs of Chicago. Nothing last night though and it looks like my plants were spared. Just scattered frost in the open spaces. Way too early for us, a month too early. OUr average first frost is Oct. 16.

Timely reminder, we had frost last night and it is supposed to be scattered frost again tonight. Hope there is something left of the garden this weekend!
