Weight is the same, but fter only 21/2 weeks pictures already show a difference. He is so excited and i already see his self confidence going up

My daughter and I hiked on a mountain hike this past Friday, it was great. The total hike was around 2.4 miles. Felt great. She loves nature and it was fun to get some exercise.

We also ran a 5K for Thanksgiving in under 45 minutes. Our next one is in just 3 weeks.

My DD and I did the Jump Around 4 Kids DVD this morning. The exercise portion is 20 minutes (including warmup and cool down). I found it harder than my WATP 2 mile walk. emoticon www.jumparound4kids.com/

I want to get to a healthy weight and stay there forever. I don't have to make huge changes all at once, just small ones consistently.

Alrighty! A strength program to go with our cardio/running program! We had fun mustering through the challenging sets =D and it will be so worth it in the end! If you're interested here is the link ... www.hundredpushups.com/ There are links on the left side for 200 sit-ups, 200 squats, and the coming soon 25 pull-ups! We're doing all of them and adding in the pull-ups as soon as it's posted :)

PS Three of us (DD7, DS9, and me) maxed out the squats at 200! DD11 maxed at 100, DD14 maxed at 54!

I know I'm not the only one on this team doing things with my kids ... I wanna hear what all you're doing together! I like reading what other families do together ... gives me ideas for my own family!

Anyway, yesterday we swam ... the kids only swam about 30 minutes before they each crawled out for different reasons and stayed out while I finished up my laps and stuff :\ oh well .. they played pretty hard with their friends later

Today however was something else! We got up and ran W2D1 of C25K with DD14 since she is leaving today for Nana's house! We followed that with just a short 30 min swim so we could hurry home, shower, and get ready to go meet a 4H group and do a hike in the Preserve ... we wound up going a trail I wasn't even aware of (cause it's closed to the public) and I was NOT prepared for it! I wound up doing fine but one little girl who was clearly NOT used to being active (she was the only child that was overweight - and honestly at her age and size she'd probably be classified as obese :( ) ... anyway, she had problems... me and one of the 4H leaders had to stay back with her a few times because she was getting dizzy and stuff - she even twisted her ankle on the way back but luckily it was one of those times where you twist a little and hurts a few moments then is all better - whew! ... I mixed my powerade with her water to help give her electrolytes which helped her tremendously and made me glad I had chosen to bring it instead of water (because we'd been drinking water all morning and was about to do over 2 hours of strenuous exercise powerade was called for ... makes me glad I've been studying sports nutrition!) ....... along the way we saw a king snake which was pretty cool and the kids loved it!

We were about to go to the lake until I looked at the weather since we were expecting storms later and looks like they will be here in less than an hour, so no lake :(

Today we ran W1D3 of C25K! They all did pretty good =) I'm loving their progress and it's only been 3 times! DS9 was running/walking circles around the rest of us, DD7 put forth more effort - it helps that she wore her running shoes lol, DD11 and DD14 ran together again and I really liked watching them together cause they were on the same stride running in tandem ... though today it was me passing them! I think I just picked up the pace a bit now that my feet and legs are giving me less problems since I've been walking and running with my arch supports in my new shoes.

Anyway, we also swam 30 min together following the run ... though that's all the kids did, as I did an hour more =D

Today we cleaned the Church together. Alan and I do the big work while we assign a chore to each child each week (it rotates) after their friends leave. That way we're all helping out and doing service for the Church. Depending on the chore, it's a workout too =) but usually just for me and Alan unless one of the children are helping do yard work!

Today we all worked in the yard once we got home from working on the rental house. The younger kids love being able to do "big people" things like using the blower to blow off the driveway =D DS9 said he had to use all his strength just to keep it from spinning him round and round in circles LOL! I got help weeding in the garden even. The kids cleaned out the car, which is apparently very tiring, while we were doing some of the bigger items (cutting grass, weed eating, edging, trimming limbs, etc) :)

At the rental house the kids played with their old neighborhood friends while we painted and such inside.

Today the kids and I went to the pool -
they biked, I walked
we swam for 45 min

They also did a fitness test today for me!

DD7 had gymnastics (but left early due to having a headache)
DD9 ran and played basketball and swashbuckled with friends
DD14 also played man hunt with the neighborhood kids tonight (they always work up a sweat doing that)

DD11 had an accident on her bike and hasn't really felt up to a lot even though she has done a lot around the house

Today the kids and I did Week 1 Day 1 work out of the Couch to 5K program! We followed that with a dip in the pool for 1 1/2 hours. I treaded water while the kids played their hearts out with some neighbor kids playing Marco Polo and Sharks and Minnows - they were beat when we got home! And of course we walked to and from the pool - that walk home is tough after a couple of hours in the pool!

Yesterday we didn't get to go swimming as planned or play outside because of rain :(
I did manage to get out in the garden a little bit between showers though while the kids rode bikes (which was at least something)

Today DD7 had gymnastics while I walked around the gym for a total of 3 miles... normally everyone is with me but we had an early audiology appointment prior to gymnastsics so I left everyone else here.
We are about to go swimming in 15 min until showers run us away.

Yesterday the family and I did lots of yard work around the Church and cleaned up inside as well. I didn't think about it being exercise until I realized I was sweating and my heart was going good. We all needed a rest when we were finished!

Today my children and I swam for about an hour and 15 minutes and walked around the airport as we took my oldest DD to the gate ... it was over 2 miles worth when it was all said and done!

BRMORRIS ~ We've done everything as a family from the very beginning so I've incorporated a lot of age groups at one time.

~~Swimming is definitely doable for a large family with spread out ages. Just this morning we *all* did some races - and even though the little kids came no where near first they had so much fun calling what type of stroke we would all do :) We have treading water challenges and number of laps challenges that everyone takes part in.

~~I also can pick an area and run/jog/walk with everyone without losing anyone or anyone "falling behind" - especially when they are all going in a circle ... we are doing the Couch-2-5K program together and since it isn't a distance thing, we are going to use the parking lot at the pool in the early mornings (no one is there) or around our back yard or around any of the empty cul-de-sacs in the neighborhood - this way I can call walk or run for everyone and everyone can hear me without us being spread out over a mile!!

~~Each child has their own sport (of course some overlap) and I have researched age appropriate skills and workouts ... then I've looked at what overlaps (stretches, push ups, sit ups, mountain climbers, jumping jacks, etc) ... in the afternoons before dinner we are all out in the back yard doing sport's "work outs" - some of the things we can do as a group while other things I just have to get one kid working on something and move to the next kid and keep making my rounds ... it sounds like more work than it is though! There are some neighborhood kids that join us too so it's a lot of fun :)

~~Hiking ... we've done this since the first was in utero! They've grown up camping and hiking. Sometimes we'll split up into two groups - the faster and the slower lol but it all still works and we're still doing it as a family and having fun

~~Biking ... this one is a bit different ... I don't have a bike so I'm usually walking with the slowest child (whom isn't so slow anymore!!) while the bigger ones go up a way and then come back past us, just to turn around and pass us and come back again over and over again - sometimes the big ones buddy up with a smaller one to encourage them and teach them something (never mind that mom has tried to teach them, they wanna hear it from big bro or big sis that they do it/have done it).

~~Dance ... self explanatory and even the boys got in on this cause they got to act as silly as they wanted and no one made fun of them :) Sometimes we'd make a game of it (dance on your hands, dance real slooooow, dance super fast, dance on your knees, dance like a duck, dance without moving your head, ... )

~~Jump rope! ... it's individual and a group activity in one like dance is ... can also make challenges for this or team up, do double dutch, single rope, partner, all sorts of things

~~And our newest family activity is frisbee golf! Our local park has a frisbee golf course on the outside edges of the park ... it's quite popular

So see, you just gotta use the ole imagination and you'll be coming up with a long laundry list of tried and true activities!

This is great! Does anyone else have a challenge when you have a range in age of kids? Ours are 10,7,3 and 16 months old twins. Our 10 and 7 yr. olds and sometimes our 3 yr. old can do certain things, but get really frustrated when the twins interfere! We go for hikes and have the twins in a chariot. My husband is great for taking the older 3 alone too. At home, it's more difficult. The older ones love doing the wii, but of course, the twins want to "do it" too, which really doesn't work!

This is something that is important to me, so really want to figure it all out! I will definitely add this into week... the challenge! Thanks!

I just signed up for the Team Challenge of 10 minutes of exercise with my son, age 11. I hope we do so much more than 10 minutes.

I have offered a reward for each day in which he accomplishes 10,000 steps or more on his pedometer.

We also exercise with hand weights while watching the tv.

I gave my son a copy of Dr. Joel Fuhrman's Food Pyramid featuring lots of vegetables and we put it up on the wall in his room.

My 6 year old daughter bought a huge ball at Wal-mart and we kicked it around the yard for about 30 minutes Saturday. She was sick yesterday, but I am hoping we can do it again today.

I have the same problem.........my son is 9. A strange thing happened when he saw me adding my food into the FoodTracker on this site..........he asked if he could have an account and write down his food everyday. He knows I am doing the Biggest Loser Challenge in my city and I need to workout. I told him I really need his help and could he please take walks/hikes with me and do my workout videos with me at home. He seems excited about doing it. We will see how it works and how long it lasts. Two years ago I lost 40 pounds and he lost weight along with me. I've noticed that when I set the example he follows suit. My biggest motivator for getting fit is to prevent my son from experiencing weight issues for the rest of his life. I wish someone did that for me when I was nine. Hope this helps! Be the example........the rest will follow.

For anyone interested in SF Bay Area, I started a meetup called Family Fitess and Fun so I'd have to get our and experience the great outdoors at least once each weekend.

CU there!

My son and I went for a bike ride (about a mile) and then later went to the YMCA together. We rode the stationary bike and walked the treadmill for 15 minutes per machine. We had TCBY afterwards as a healthy treat!

That's our favorite thing to do! Especially when you're "snowed in". It is such a morale booster. :D Glad you had fun.

We're going to do Wii Fitness later this afternoon when we need an energy boost.

Yesterday, we did 25 jumping jacks - I took her (my 9yod) off-guard so she laughed and laughed while we were doing them. It was a great time!

We also have daily challenges that I do with her. (ie: jumping jacks; obstacle course; running relay (too cold out right now); jump rope; and how long of a fitness video can she do (as she hasn't been able to get through the entire video). Since Thanksgiving break, we have been way off. Looking forward to getting back on track.

My 9 year old loves to go do the eliptical with me at the Y. He can actually last 30 minutes on it. He has lost 5 pounds in the last two weeks just doing this and making better food choices.

Hi everyone, this is the first time in this forum. I am looking for some advice/suggestions with regards to my son's problem. My son (age 8)is over weight and does not enjoy any particular physical activity. I've enrolled him in karate and baseball but it was like pulling teeth to have him actually move. He walks with me but I have to push him. I talk with him about the importance of being healthy, I use myself as an example, he gets motivated but for a short time. Help emoticon

There are a number of Mum & babe excersize DVDs out there (check out your library to find one that you like). The best thing I found with both of mine though was to put them into a backpack and go for a walk - after all, you get the walk, plus having to lug around 20 some odd extra pounds on your back. My son was a fairly large baby so I had no choice to do that with him from about 3 months on as he was too big for the carrying seats in grocery store karts and the portable car seat. Even with just running errands the weight came off. Hope this helps

I let my kids decide what the main type of activity we were going to do. They both love their bikes so I started bike riding with my kids a couple of weeks ago (they're 3 & 5). We're fortunate in that we live near a fairly level cycling path that has kilometer markings along it. We started off just by going to the first one and each venture out we;ve gone 1 further to see how far we can go. I think we have found out that a total of 10km is enough for now (they pushed me to do that one, not the other way round). When it's raining, we dance in the living room, or with a dance game on the PS2. My daughter's goal is to be able to cycle home from school this year (about 6 km) so I have to get my son and I up to 12 km before that can happen!

Today in Texas it is Sunny and going to be a hot day! After church the family is going to the park to walk and throw a football around and kick a soccer ball! Whenever we can fit in family time with exercise is the best!! It is the best stress reliever for me and the kids.
We can not control mother nature but work with it!! When it is raining outside and not lighting let the kids run in the puddles and catch rain drops they will not melt! We all did that as kids!

We take a lot of family walks, plus have a Wii Fit. We also took up geocaching a couple of months ago, which has REALLY increased the amount of hiking/walking we do and I bought the kids a 12-ft trampoline last week - it has kept them very active and i'm getting use out of it too!

I'm looking forward to joining this challenge for July.

I'm new to this team. The goal here is to exercise with your kids at least 5 days a week, correct? Can that be any type of exercise/movement?
I can't wait to get started!

My daily challenge on another team was to dance to 3 songs - I put on the Gin Blossoms' New Miserable Experience and danced to the whole CD! And one of my daughters danced with me to most of it...we were cracking up through much of it. It was fun!

When the weather is warm on the weekends my 10 year old son rides his bike and I run my three to six miles with our dog! I and the dog get a great run in and I get to spend time with my son! We all love it! It is a win win situation!

My 5yr. old daughter plays t-ball and my 3yr. old son comes with me to walk to his sister's school to pick her up. We usually play at the school playground for a bit and I try and get out back with them or at least have them run around out there every night before dinner.
