This is a patch that's offered by the GSUSA and your local council should have the patches available. I've attached a link to the information if you're interested. I created my own spreadsheets to make it easier for the girls rather than using the ones they created.

I have been fortunate that the moms of my Daisy Girl Scouts absolutely love the idea. One is currently training to be a corrections officer so her daughter loves to exercise with her anyway. Three of us are trying to get ourselves in shape so our girls like to encourage us and work out with us. The couple of other moms, though not quite as physically active as the rest of us for various reasons (one is already in great shape and the other is on limited movement due to a complicated pregnancy), have been very supportive. They think it's a great way to keep the girls active and to teach them to be accountable for their own physical help. It has encouraged them to become more aware of what they are eating and according to a few of the moms, the girls are more eager to help in preparing the family meals.

I am the co-leader of our local Girl Scouts troop and want to share an idea with the rest of you to help get your kids active. I am in charge of the Daisies, who are kindergarten and first graders.

The girls have all been wanting a patch that they could work on independently at home. After sifting through numerous options, I settled on the Shape Up! patch.

The Shape Up! patch is a 12-week program with two parts: Get Movin' and Eat Right. For the Get Movin' portion, the girls have to do at least 30 minutes of physical activities 3 times each week or more. They also have a chart they have to use to log what kind of activities they participated in. For the Eat Right portion, they have to log what kind of foods they eat/drink each day from 3 different categories: Veggies, Fruits and Natural Fruit Juices, and Milk and other Dairy Products.

If the girls complete the 12-week program successfully, they each earn the Shape Up! patch.

Now I know that you may or may not have girls or Girl Scouts, but this is something you could implement with your own children and offer a special reward at the end. If anyone is interested in the easy-to-use spreadsheets I created for my Daisies to do their logging on, feel free to message me and send me your email address.
