I've also been trying to get my family to eat out less. Life is so busy with three little kids and one on the way. And, cleaning up dinner mess is no fun. We have been trying to stick to eating out only twice a month but it's hard and we didn't do well in January. Hopefully February goes much better!
Life is so busy, fast food is sometimes just the only option, it seems. I am getting out of that mindset, but it is hard to get dh and the teenagers out of it!
We have 5 kids, ages 8-18. I am entering my second year of teaching special ed middle school, am working on my masters degree, and we have managed 5-6 soccer teams year round until this fall. This fall, we have 2 soccer teams, gymnastics one night a week, and maybe one running cross country. DH is in management for a fast food chain, which really doesn't help! lol
I have worked hard to lose weight and eat healthier, and am working on dh and the kids. Some nights, dh puts his foot down and says he just doesn't want to eat at home, or that I need a night off! I do the best I can, make healthy choices, and have been known to bring a salad with me into Mcdonald's or sit there while they eat, then steam some fish and veggies when we get home!
I have had it down to about once a week this month, not sure what will happen when we go back to school though (I went back last Wednesday, the kids go back Aug 25)
We can do this!!

Awesome challenge!!!!! I try to do this as well. I've found that if I do choose to eat fast food we go for Subway or I order a side alad from Wendy's (no dressing) and a small Chili. I pour the Chili on the Salad and voila we have a salald packed with protein and veggies. My kids even like it! Also, a small roast beef sandwich from Arby's and a side salad is a great option.
I'm right there with you. My daughter is two and she loves McDonald's chicken nuggets. I knew it was time to quit eating fast food when she would ask for a "Happy Meal" as soon as we got into town. I recently watched the documentary Super Size Me and that was more than enough to get me to quit eating McDonald's. I think California is on the right track banning the toys in happy meals. Childhood obesity is a serious problem in this country, and fast food places are not doing enough to help the problem. My biggest problem with not eating fast food is not being prepared when I go into town. It's tough to prepare, but you have a good idea about getting things ready the night before. That would be a fun activity for my daughter and I to do.
It is way cheap to pack lunches. I am trying to get in the habit of packing lunches but I forget. I think I will do better packing them the night before instead of the morning cause I am always running LATE. I had Mcdonalds today. Bad me.

You are right about the salads. Of course after I tried one of Wendy's new salads I saw the nutrition stats - you are better off eating a burger! (The salad was good too, darn it!) This week I had a salad from BK with grilled chicken, I do not think that is too bad, but $5+ every day for lunch adds up!
awesome. I am not sure about fast food salads, some of them have a higher calorie count then a regular hamburger so be careful. I totally skip out on food and get coffee too, but i need to quit that habit. Too expensive. I got starbucks yesterday... bad me, but I really wanted to get my and Ry mcdonald's or something yesterday cause we are both sick but I didn't. :)

Great idea! It is a challenge to NOT eat fast food! I have three children, one dog, work full time, my husband works full time on a different shift, etc., etc.! I am not a big fan of cooking and tend to opt for fast food if my husband doesn't have something prepared. Honestly, most of the time I get the fast food for the kids and I skip out or just get a coffee drink.
I am up for the challenge!
Does a salad from a fast food restaurant count as fast food?
Hello, my name is Melissa. I am a proud mother of a beautiful 2yr old little girl (2 large dogs) and I work full-time. It is hard to balance everyday task and cook a healthy meal. Lately we have been taking the easy way out and opting for fast food. It is convenient, fast, and I don't have to clean up a mess but... it is not a healthy habit. I do not want my daughter growing-up on fast food. Getting fast food has been an increasing habit that I never wanted to happen. So I am challenging myself and family to cut down the fast food habit! If anyone would like to join me, I would surely enjoy it. I will check in as much as I can and let you know how many days we have gone or if we have slipped. Support is very appreciated. :) Here we go!
