I Just got my Bodybugg SP today and its a wee bit confusing. I have the HTC Incredible and had a lot of problems pairing and connecting and updating on the phone... finally got it to work just now. I have to open my bluetooth settings to search for the devices, press the BB button, find the device in the list, PAIR it, go to the bodybugg app, click the Bluetooth red squiggly, and then pull the dropdown menu from the top of the screen down (for updates/alerts) and click on the alert that has to do with pairing or connecting to the armband, enter in the 0000 code, and THEN IT WORKS

jesus F Christ thats a lot of work for one little device.

I have the BB SP. Syncing is hit and miss. i am not particularily happy with that part of it.

I don't mind the website though.

I also had an issue with my display not beeping - it happened after I changed the battery. I tried holding down the light button, which turns the beep on and off, but it didn't work. Then I called tech support and they gave instructions to reset (hold all four buttons down simultaneously - then follow screen directions). It didn't work, so believe it or not, they are replacing my display AND extending my subscription for 2 months! Not bad for 10 minutes waiting for someone to talk to! Good luck!

I have a new problem - I've had the Body Media device and the display to wear on my wrist. I have to keep that in my checked luggage to avoid issues with not being able to turn off the device. Now the display doesn't make the beeping sound when you run through the screens on the display. Anyone else have that happen?

Mine seems to count my steps ok. I walk the dog 2 miles and it says just under 4000. Supposedly there are about 2000 steps in a mile on average. I know some of mine aren't full steps since she cuts me off now and then and sometimes we stop and I walk in place while she does her sniffing but overall I'd say its pretty decent.

Im just asking after having read this entire thread.

Is it better to check my time spent walking or on the treadmill, then to worry about the steps being so far off?

Tech made me feel stupid when I called so Im not calling ever again IF I dont have too!

I know BB is not a pedometer, I was just wondering why it shows step count if its NOT! LOL Makes no sense to me! I walked a mile and it said 749 steps! LOL

Thanks for any help. :)

I wanted to say I bought the BodyBugg SP and it just didn't work for me. I literally spent 5 hours trying to get it to sync with my iphone and then gave up. I returned it and bought the version 3 and love it.

It's too bad about the SP -- I guess I'm not surprised though. I know from the past that Apple products are often finicky with products made by other companies.

Anyway -- just my 2 cents!

It seems to be working for me today without an issue. I doubt I had it upside down, but I didn't check so I can't say for sure. Thanks for the response.

I noticed I did not have any steps last night...then I realized I was wearing it upside down! Just when to the gym for the first time steps and calorie count were right were I thought it should be...seems quite accurate.

I recently started using a BB and it has yet to give me total steps for the day. I am on my feet all day yet it says of made 0 steps. What's up with that?

I got my SP unit yesterday...have already had to call tech support twice. Still have not been able to sync to my droid. Will update if I keep the unit?

UPDATE: paired and connected, do not love the food log, will continue to add food to Spark and use nutrician totals to enter into BB site. Crossing my fingers!

Has anyone tried the new bodybug SP? (www.bodybuggsp.com) Instead of needing a display unit, you now get real time updates on your smart phone (iphone, droid, blackberry). So you can enter your food on your phone, and see the display on your phone as well. Sounds cool, but haven't found anyone using it yet.

I just updated the firmware in my gowearfit and now it won't work. The lights are staying solid green and it won't connect to my computer. It just keeps saying wait 10 seconds and try again if it doesn't help contact customer support. Anybody have anything similar happen to them? I am beside myself thinking I just broke this $200 piece of equipment. I emailed bodymedia and of course they are only open 9-5 M-F. I guess if they think they can fix it I will have to leave work early tomorrow in order to be near my computer to do whatever it is I need to do to update it??? I can't find anything on the website. I uninstalled and reinstalled the software but its got to be the device itself cuz the lights wont shut off.

I have found that my bugg beeps if it loses contact with my arm for a few minutes. I just put it back on correctly and it will beep again to tell me it's reset.

For my steps, I drove my car and figured out a complete mile, then I walked it after setting my bugg on a new trip. When I hit the spot where the mile ended, I just stood there for a few minutes till the numbers didn't change. For me personally, I need to walk approximately 2300 steps with my bugg to hit a mile. So that's how I gage my steps.

there are a couple of versions of the bodybugg, if you have the older version that takes an "AAA" battery it will not work with the newer gowear fit watches.

as far as I know, the new versions that you have to plug in to charge up the battery are compatible with the gowear fit digital display.

Thanks Carrie. I did notethat it gave me the right amount of minutes that I walked as physical activity.

So today the wrist display I orderd came and that does not work at all. I have a bodybugg but the display is gowearfit. Can it be they are not compatible?

Okay, I've never understood the beeping. It just happens.

As to the steps, the BB is not a pedometer and it doesn't really measure steps, it actually measures something to do with hip movement. So, I tend to use a pedometer to measure steps. In general, I find the BB is about 2 - 3,000 less than a pedometer if I'm doing proper walking. If I'm simply doing walk around the house stuff, it barely registers, although the pedometer might read 10k,

This is my 3rd day with my body bugg and I have a couple of issues. First off, why does it beep? I was at a dinner last night and it kept beeping. I can't find anything to tell me what the beeps meAN.

Next issue is step count. My pedometer is showing 8000 steps for yesterday, body bugg gave me 2500. Yet it shows a huge calorie burn.
I have not had a coaching session yet but I wish there were more information on how it works or is supposed to work.

You need the computer interface. Without it, the BB will stop registering. Plus, it has to be re-charged.

I'll be buying a used BB within the week if I can find one that seems to be in good working condition. After reading this entire thread, I'm quite worried about keeping it working, but I know someone who got amazing results from it and really want one.

I'm also totally confused about whether the digital display removes the need for the website subscription or not. I'm often in areas where I can't get the internet for several days or even weeks at a time. I can't do both, so if I really need the website, will not buy a display. If not, I'll get the display but it brings up another question--does that work with all models of the BB?

Thanks for quick answers, I'm supposed to meet with someone who has one for sale tomorrow.

I have been emailing with BodyMedia (Gowear Fit) support, but so far they have not fixed my problem. The last week it takes me about 10 tried to upload my armband to my computer. I have tried different USB cables and ports, the support people had me download new drivers, nothing has worked. The computer beeps and recognizes that I have plugged in the armband, but then nothing. Has anyone had this problem and if so, how did you fix it?

I know the BB is never right on steps. I started checking it against a pedometer and find it's generally off by a factor of between 10 and 15%. The difference between the armband and the computer, if less than 5%, is just normal stuff, nothing to worry about.

I know about the blisters and suggest that you switch up arms. I switch from my left to right to give each side a break. That has helped me.

I found that the gowearfit has been pretty accurate about steps. I haven't checked it against my pedometer for a whole day, but have checked it on and off last week and it was pretty close.

Today I will track my food and exercise. This I will do for myself.

I have an issue with the digital watch "saying" I've met the calorie / step goals and then when I download the bb into the computer it comes up short? I've wondered if the watch battery needs changed I've had it since the beginning of February.

I'm also getting blisters from wearing the bb arm band - I have a rather large blister right now on my left arm from wearing it.

Hi, I will be a new Bodybugg user and I'm very excited. I bought my bugg from ebay and will be getting the display watch. I am on a fixed budget and can't really afford the monthly subscription. I log all my food in an excel spreadsheet, so I don't need to log it anywhere. Is it possible to just use the bugg and display watch to get my calorie count? And if so, how would I get the old information off the bugg? Do I need the subscription to charge the bugg? I am very techno challenged, so I'm not sure about any of these things. Thanks in advance for any help!

I'm so glad I found this forum! A few weeks ago my display stopped syncing with the arm band :( From the post below it looks like I was right to assume that the issue is with the armband and not the battery in the display (since I just changed the battery a month ago). Unfortunately I bought it second hand about 6 months ago so I have no receipt to send it back :( (plus I live in Canada and BB does not like Canadians, won't even take our calls or emails :( Last week I broke down and bought a GoFit thing (same thing as the BB and it is from BodyMedia but they sell them in Canada YEAH!) Lets hope I don't have any problems with then new one. I can't wait for it to get here!!!!! wish me luck :)

I had bad data on mine and had to reset it. Since then I've reset it at least 4 times. I called them and the tech told me that if it has corrupt data it is more likely to get corrupted again and again. I asked isn't there anything that can be done to totally wipe it clean. No she replied. You'll just have to upload the data everyday (which I think is stupid since I have the watch that I use to check the stats - my main reason for the download was that the watch didn't update for daylight savings). Then she went on to say, that the first call they try to trouble shoot. The second call they try to trouble shoot. If the third call they trouble shoot and it still doesn't work they will send a new one (if it's under the warranty). Also she asked me to access my computer which I said no to. I don't believe any tech that you have no idea where they are located should acces your personal pc - and considering her first language was not English - she's definitely not inside the US.

Overall I'm happy with the gadget, but I think the website is totally worthless. Buy the watch so you can monitor throughout the day. And if you keep a spreadsheet during the day - there's no need to pay the montly fee to look at the website. It's totally inferior to what sparkpeople has to offer.

I am new to the BodyBugg and Spark People and so far I love them both. I have one problem though. I have tried to download the drivers to be able to sync my armband wirelessly, but no such luck. It takes me to the first page, but when I hit continue it doesn't do a thing. I am now syncing through the USB cable, but would like to be able to do it wireless. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Yeah, I spend half my time re-synching my armband and my display. But, that's life.

I have had the same issues. the bodybugg sends out a "digital beacon" once every minute, then the digital display responds with a reciprical "got it beacon". If the digital display didnt receive the beacon, or the bodybugg didnt receive the response 3 times in a row.. they become diconnected. (probably an energy saving thing)

I found that if I wore the digital display connected to the bodybugg armband I never have issues, but if I wore it as a watch on my other arm, it would get disconnected on a regular basis.

the message "NOT SET UP" means the battery died and its programming was lost (ie age/weight/sex and date/time)

I have a tool that I wrote that allows me to use the bugg without a subscription (under windows only for now)

I am looking for beta testers...

It happens even when I'm not in the house, so I don't think that's the issue. Plus, it shouldn't need a new battery every 3.5 weeks

I have read that since the BB and DD are wireless things like cell phones wifi and RIF can cause it to un-sync. Maybe your Cell phone is too close to the display or you work ( lke me) in retail where we use RIF tags and guns

I have been battling with BB almost since I got it about the digital display that keeps losing synch with the armband. In 35 weeks, I've replaced the battery 7 times.

The last time, I had to send it the arm display, and I was without it for nearly 10 days before the replacement came.

This time, I held fast and they are shipping out a new digital display and I can send the other back when it arrives.

Finally, some logic.

I'm having a problem when I try to upload my bug. I have to push really hard or twist the plug a little to get it to register. Anyone else have this problem before? I ordered another usb cable and I hope that solves my problem.

I'm having a problem where the calories that the website shows I burned for the day are less than the calories the display shows for the day. Anyone else have this problem?

Thanks for the information. I contacted customer service and they said the same thing. You can definitely tell that they are scripted 'cause she kept saying the same verbage over and over again. I hope I don't have any problems after I get it started back up.

Zoryae,
I originally thought the same as you, however after speaking with people here on spark (via email) and talking with BB Customer Service I was told that you must be a subscriber in order for the armband to work as it needs downloads.

I ended up signed up for another year with them. However, because I hadn't used my bug for the few months between subscriptions my bug started acting incorrectly. Went round and round with Customer Service at BB, which is not fun! Ended up having to return my display and then the armband. Luckily they were still under warranty. I really do not like the Customer Service reps they have at BB. I had one very nice one and the others (you can never get the same person) weren't helpful or friendly. I love my BB but just not the customer service department.

Hope that info helps!
Take Care!

I've had my Bodybugg since February and I renewed my subscription on the website for a couple months but I like Sparkpeople much better so I didn't renew it. Then I stopped wearing the bugg for about a month. Now today I tried to use it and my display says "Armband not set up". Does that mean that I have to resubscribe? Is it possible to use my armband without the website. I did some research and thought that it was.

Right now I'm likin' the BB site simply b/c it actually adds up the calories correctly!!! OMG...Once again....ate a protein cookie so had to change today's meals...ended up with 53g fat=477cal.+200carbs=800cal.+107g protein=428=1705. Spark total shows 1490. WHAT GIVES.....so annoying!!! This is NOT a rounding error!!! Sherry

You are brillant. I hate the BB food site. It is so not user friendly. Thank you for the great idea.

Carrie,
Did you get your replacement BB yet? I'm having the same problem and have recently returned my display (after putting a new battery in to make sure it wasn't the battery). Now my BB armband doesn't show any colors, not green or red. I've been in touch with BB tech about 5 or 6 times over the last week. I'm waiting for them to open so I can call again and try and get a replacement bb armband. Can you tell me how long you had to wait to get your replacement and once you got it did it work fine? Was it a refurbished one or did they send you a new one?

Thanks much!
Laura

I figured it out!!! The calorie difference was due to the fact that SP doesn't count calories in fiber; BB does. So, all I had to do was eliminate the food I had created called "fiber" from my custom foods in BB and all is well (w/in 8 cals. which I attribute to rounding). So, sigh, all is well and I can now plan my meals for the next day in SP and print a copy for the morning; and, when I download in BB I'll just enter the fat/carb/pro total grams from the SP printout I didi the day before (taking no longer than entering my breakfast in BB as I usually did...) and voila, I'm done!! Maybe someday BB will enable us to plan a day or week ahead!!! Sherry

I'm not sure if this is really a BB issue, or a SP issue: In BB I created 4 "foods", protein, carbs, fat and fiber. I gave them each their caloric value for one gram. I record my food in SP, take the total grams of each food and enter in just one meal on BB (so that I don't have to keep two food journals) and download my info to get my deficit for the day. Today my calorie total on SP was 1016 cal.. When I recorded the nutrient values (f/c/p/fiber) in BB the total calories was 1219 for the exact same grams of nutrients. A difference of 203 cal.. I've gone over everything an obsessive amount of time. I cannot find one single thing to account for the difference!!! I'm going to go thru everything again, as I'm a bit OCD about such things...Sherry

FINALLY got a response from Customer Service. It's not the watch display, it's the BB itself that is faulty. After 27 emails, 12 phone calls, and a letter from the Attorney General's office, I got someone who went thru all these tests and agreed it is the BB that's faulty.

So, supposedly, they're sending a new one and I have to return this. I suggested they should also extend the membership, since it has taken 15 weeks to get this resolved.

Since I had every number on this case (each tech gave it a new one rather than use the original) and every piece of written correspondence, he agreed.

Now, I wait to see how long it takes for the new one to arrive.

Does anybody know how to "JUST" enter your calories for the whole day on BB rather than building your menu and then getting a total? I'd like to enter my daily food in SP so that I can do it the evening before I need it so I'm all ready to go in the a.m.. (I like to print it out and have it on the counter so there is NO guessing!) So far, I see no way to do that on the BB site, seems like I can only do it day by day, not the day before!!! Sherry

The BB is estimating what you would have already burned for the day.

It should be better once you're wearing it. Just hope you don't need customer service. They are the worst.

Why is it so difficult to get a proper response from Customer Service? My display loses synch with my arm band as many as 20 times per day. I have had the battery changed and the same thing still happens. My other concern is that I have to re-set the trip odometer to make sure the calories per minute burn is correct. This means I can't watch as the calorie burn goes up during exercise or down during cooldown, because if I don't hit to re-set, it just keeps the previous reading.

This is the third time I have had a really unsuccessful attempt to get assistance thru customer service. Any suggestions? I know that I will not renew once my 6 months is over. I can monitor without using their program and I do not like doing business with a company that will not respond to questions other than to refer me to the FAQs.

Any suggestions on the display?

Thanks,
Carrie

Im not sure if this is a bug or not but I just got my armband and digital display today. Its brand new. After I charged the battery and got everything hooked up an synced. My digital display says I have burned 1214 calories already. I expected it to start at zero. Is this normal? and why?

I am having a problem everytime I upload. I used to upload everyday or sometimes several times a day. Lately life has gotten out of control and I get the red message when I upload about every 3rd day. It tells me to contact tech support. I did this and they had me register my arm band. Only problem is when you do this you lose all data on the band. ( I could post manually but I haven't kept notes since I thought I was on track to upload.) So I have to keep re-registering it is driving me crazy. I keep losing everything.

I noticed today that the number of calories expended on my display for yesterday was higher than the number of calories expended when I downloaded to the website. I also noticed that the steps recorded are approximately half of what is recorded with a pedometer. The third thing I have had happen on one occasion is that the total number of calories on the nutrition page that shows my food intake was different than the total number of calories on the results page. I have sent an email to technical support ... will post any responses.

BB can be so frustrating.

I went to log on today and my password has expired. Okay, go to create a new one and they want me to answer a question as a security question that I would never have initially answered.

Of course, they're not open for several hours, so I can't telephone.

There are times I absolutely HATE this company!!!!

I also just started using a GoWear Fit. I'm still learning to navigate the activity manager, but i've had a few problems. Do any of you have a problem with the numbers projected by the activity manager? There is a number, 'your average daily calories consumed'. I have no idea where they are getting this from, and you cannot edit it. If this is the number of calories I should be eating every day according to them, it's very high! I'm aiming for 1200-1500 a day! Has anyone else had a similar issue?

I've been having the same problem since I got my BB. Some days it stays in sync and others it can lose the connection several times a day. I plan to change out the battery soon and see if that helps.

I take it you had some kind of weight loss surgery?
I had gastric bypass and ran in to that when registering my BodyBugg.. I just went back and said No on the question and then it let me through.. Most weight loss, or fitness types of programs require you to have a doctor's permission to participate in their program. I'm a grown up. I know what I can and can't do after my surgery so I just left BodyBugg out of it... It's not a big deal as long as you follow doctor's order in regards to eating and exercise... I've had outstanding success with the BodyBUgg. I went thorugh a series of stalls after surgery and the body bugg helped me realize why..

Wow, i just realized this post is super-dead..

I used to see that message all the time, and found that I would get that error only if I left the browser open after leaving the site and then going back to bodybugg later without closing down the browser.

it has to do with the windows drivers still being loaded and then the application tries to load the driver and it failed (because it is already loaded)

New software update required.... I have been getting this nearly every day. I am wondering if apex is updating the system this frequently or if my system is just going bonkers. Has anyone else noticed a lot of updates being required before they update their stats lately?

Ok, folks-
Here's my problem- I went to register my new Bugg and on basicaly the first page of health history I hit a wall- I checked off the question "have you had any type of weight loss surgery" and then I get a page directing me to contact their (Apex) dietitian before I can go on--- wonderful--- but I havent gotten a reply yet---
I'd love to get started but it feels like I am being penalized.

PLEASE MAKE A NEW TOPIC! DON'T POST HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am adding this forum to the site to help anyone who is having problems with the technical side of the bodybugg. This includes user interface, unusual issues... or "my bodybugg is going crazy what do I do?" Problems.
I am NOT AN EXPERT. But I have dealt with customer service and had my own problems with the bugg. My hopes are to ease any panic attacks and possibly get you any information to ease you through customer service if it is needed.

THIS FORUM IS HERE FOR TECHNICAL HELP ONLY!!!

not
"Ive had this thing for over a year and havent lost any weight! whats wrong with it?!" that would go under general discussion.

GL to all
