I don't much like growing lettuce. It's so hard to wash! (Or maybe it's just the kind we grew. Or the type of soil we have... )

We had trouble washing our broccoli one year, too, but not because of the dirt, it was the caterpillars!!! We were infested. However, broccoli is a great vegetable for us. It is so hardy it grows practically until December. Maybe even in December.

I hadn't thought about growing lettuce. That would be a great money saver! Maybe I would eat more of it!

I live in SC, so I have been able to plant my flowers and veggies. I've planted herbs, but have never used fresh herbs when I cook at home, so I'll be experimenting with those this year. Mostly I love the way they smell out on the porch when I sit out there. So far my 2 favorites are lemon thyme and lemon balm. They are pretty plants too.

I have also planted Zucchini, yellow squash, pickling cucumbers, grape tomatos, cantaloupe, and strawberries. We have been unsuccessful in the past with producing our own veggies, but this year we are trying a new tactic. We moved the garden to a sunnier space and we trying some in containers too. I know a few people who used containers last year and were very successful.

If we are successful in both areas this year, we'll have plenty to share.

Happy gardening!

One way to save money on food is to grow your own.

Share your plans and gardening tips here. So far all we've done is till the soil. It's a bit early to plant where I live.

However, we always plant tomatoes and some herbs.
We also like to grow cucumbers and zucchini.

I've given up on corn (takes up too much space) and carrots.

I dream of growing berries, but haven't taken the plunge...
