Lack of work can be a real challenge.

I'm working reduced hours this summer, but I'm not counting that as a challenge because it's something I can expect. I knew I would be working less hours in the summer.

Reduced income due to illness is quite something else! I'm glad that you are feeling better and are back to work, Karen!

I guess the unexpected is really the biggest challenge, isn't it? Whether it be illness or something breaking down. Or both at once!!!

Finding money for ANYTHING extra.Just got a big bag of nice new clothes for my daughter from my neighbor, whose own daughter outgrew them before she even wore them!Helped A LOT, since my daughter just went through a huge growth spurt.And now don't really have to worry about her for new clothes for awhile...Except for Underthings and socks... So we really only have to buy for my son.I really haven't bought anything for myself clothes wise ,Neither has hubby,at ALL this year, him probably longer. Once we refinance,we will be able to pay down our credit card, and hopefully be able to fix MY old clunker, or trade it for a new one.Then I MAYBE I'll be able to get some new better fitting clothes.But I shop the bargains , for everyone anyway. I love a good bargain, no matter what my $ situation!Maybe even, a haircut at the salon, rather than me doing it.!Though,I'll still do my own color! too much $$$$!Luckily I was about this weight, two years ago, so I have some nicer things to wear.My b-day 's in about a month so I'll get some then . I know my WILL hook me up.So ALL this saving money on clothes , haircuts with hubby me does equal extra money for food,what the kids need ... And a little of what they want.These HARD financial times are definitely helping put into focus for them , WHAT is important, and it's not having everything , and going places that require a lot of cash.We spend more time at the park, playing in the backyard, and spending time at the local lake, enjoying spending time together.Well, thanks again for the great topic, Going to go play basketball with my son, and go for a walk, and do some major housework!Getting the house accessed for the loan tomorrow, and the house looks TOO lived in! i would have to go with none of them at the moment as holidays is what is in my mind most at the moment .after just coming back from a prolonged holiday due to illness and the car breaking down which added extra expenses we didn´t plan for.that and repair of the car which we can´t afford.the rest just seems to disappear at the challange of the rest if you know what i mean?

When money is tight, it probably doesn't matter where you save the money. If you save money on clothes, you can spend it on food. If you save money on food, you can spend it on clothing...

Some things are fairly fixed in price: rent, electricity, taxes... Other things we can save on.

What are your biggest challenges right now?
- The grocery bill?
- Buying clothing for yourself or your kids?
- Finding 100 different ways to prepare all the zucchini in your garden?

I think I'm going to go with the zucchini myself!
