Stores are another source of free food that I hadn't thought of, but I know what you mean.
I agree eating beforehand really helps. I do that sometimes. If I eat supper before I go out it helps.
However, when there's free food at work and you are there all day, that's really tough. I'm lucky I don't have that where I'm working now. I've had it a lot in the past though.
Sometimes it helps me, if I just tell myself, "That food's no good." I can do that with chips and donuts. Some foods are harder to resist than others though. For me, homemade goodies are the hardest to resist.
