Ok, I'm proud of myself. Walked the entire way to my Water Aerobics class at the YMCA and back. 5.19 miles with a few hills, and my gym gear on my back.

So walked around 111 minutes and 60 min. class. Won't do that every day, but wondered if I could. Answer, YES I CAN!

That does sound like a lot.... seems like working an 8 hour day somewhere would be a reduction in your work load

Dee I do a variety of things. I'm a certified FileMaker Pro database developer so I mostly have some clients for that. Mostly I putter and try my best to keep the house going.

Thanks. I think it would be great to be able to work from home... or maybe semi-retire. I used to spend time trying to figure out what I could do from home, but have given up on that.

I think the worst thing is feeling like the job is forever. I can remember thinking that if you paid your house off (though ours won't be paid until I'm at least 65), you could retire. But between worrying about being able to afford health insurance... and DH's medication (which is almost as much as a second mortgage now)... It looks like retirement will be a lot further away than I ever would have thought.

Are you still doing your web site thing?

Hi Dee, I think it can be any nut, but those two are the most heart healthy.

The soup freezes beautifully.

I put my werthers bag up on the highest shelf where I have to stand on a chair to get to it, so I really have to make a conscious decision to go get it!

For me, food is the hardest of the fitness equation. So I always start with daily exercise for awhile, then add logging daily for awhile more, then in range 4 out of 7 days, then strive for daily range.

I also feel for you because stress is such a big challenge. I am so lucky that it was possible for me to leave my job and work part time in my own business again. The corporation was literally killing me even though it is a great company, the hours and pressures just got to be too much. It has been hard adjusting to our new financial constraints, but our life is so much happier.

Thanks Laurie,

I've never heard the nuts thing (or don't remember). Can it be ANY raw nut, or only walnuts or almonds?

Wow! That soup makes a lot of servings; can you freeze it? …and I have to watch my sodium these days too :(

I do well at a meal if I take lots of sips of water while I'm eating… just need to remember to do it.

As for volume, I always do better if I do mostly whole foods for that very reason. I just need to do it :o ;)

And after dinner is my hardest time of day. I just want to sit and eat and eat and eat. I like the idea of the Werthers and the tea. I do often have some tea or decaf since the warm liquid can SOMETIMES curb my appetite.

Also, whatever little bit of exercise I get in I have to do in the mornings because by evening I don't have the energy to kick my butt into gear. :o ;) ...well except for the Monday evening aqua aerobics class.

Hey Dee, I figure I kept half off and you kept 60 lbs. off, and that is awesome! We didn't wait to gain it all back and then some.
emoticon

A few tips that are working for me:

1) always eat 1/2 oz raw almonds or walnuts with sweets if you have them to slow the blood sugar burst. (From Dr. Oz and works for me - I like the 100 cal oatmeal cookies from Trader Joes, and this really keeps me from crashing or having carb frenzy if I eat them)

2) Have a cup of broth based soup 20 minutes before dinner or when hungry. My favorite is the
Miracle Cauliflower Soup from Sparks Recipes
recipes.sparkpeople.com/recipe-detail.asp?
recipe=347895

This really makes you full and is flavorful for the calories

3)Think volume - for breakfast today I was feeling anxious and wanting to eat, so made a big batch of stir-fried veggies, potato, tomato and egg for 350 calories. Filled a dinner plate.

4) I have a sweet tooth following dinner. Instead of dessert I have 1 werthers (20 cal) with a pot of vanilla herbal tea. Takes a long time to finish it (if you don't chew) and the warm tea makes me full.

Good for you - you're making some real progress. I remember when I used to do things like that.... add an extra mile here or there. But 160#'s down and 100# back... I'm at square one and needing to get back on track. Seems like I can have 2, maybe 3 good days before having a bad day BUT my bad days are really terrible and generally more than wipe out any good I'd done the previous couple days. Oh well... not giving up; I will do this again

I'm with you sister! The pool is where I started my journey to 130 lbs. gone, and here I am with 65 lbs. back. But it's a start!

Yesterday I walked to the library for the first time - 4 mile round trip with hills on the way back. My hardback books were in my backpack on the way there - softback were what I chose for way back! Also, like an optimist or a fool, I added on a mile to go up to the post office first! Before, this would have been nothing, Yesterday, this was a major hike for me. But a few weeks ago, I wouldn't have been able to do it at all, so I'm happy.

Yes, I love water exercises. That's where I started when I was so heavy,,,, and seems that's where I've returned. (now that I've gained weight, got a bad shoulder, and knees that like to talk to me too)

emoticonDee, the Water Zumba was really fun, but a bit much for my left hip right now. But I will for sure try again, and just do better at adjusting.

Water classes are a true blessing. At first, in my mobility class (where I am by FAR the youngest), I felt a little bad that THIS was my new level. But after a few weeks I can move around again and feel so much better that now I can increase some of my activities again.

That sounds awesome. I've been doing a new water class called Water in Motion, but Zumba sounds like a lot more fun.

I tried Water Zumba!

Fun class, a cross between land-based Zumba and Water Aerobics. I'm a bit sidelined due to injury, so am back living in the YMCA pool. Doing mostly mobility rehab classes, but decided to go for it. Water Zumba is super fun and all shapes and ages were all shaking it up together.
