I can't wait for my veggie garden to be producing so I can get back into pizza making mode! I have a similar crust recipe that I use...

Dee, if you come by, I'll make it for you!

It's a fairly good crust. It isn't like one from Papa John's or a Boboli, but then, it isn't made with lard and bleached white flour. The beer makes you feel like you are being naughty, but really you aren't!

Hmm.. I've bought the ready made crusts from Aldi's, but this one looks like it might be healthier and still pretty easy.

I posted this in another thread, but thought some people who would want to have this recipe would notice it more in its own thread.

Here are some photos of a great vegan pizza I made a little while back: www.flickr.com/photos/jmhowell/sets/721576

The photos are self-explanatory. Here is the recipe for the crust.

Ingredients:

2 cup unbleached all purpose flour
1 cup whole wheat flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
12 ounces beer (a dark, rich beer gives better flavor)

Directions:

Preheat oven to 400.

Combine all ingredients. The dough does not need to rise, but will be wet and sticky. Press into oiled cookie sheet (12 x 18 or slightly smaller works well). If it seems too sticky to work with, sprinkle a little flour on it as you pat/press it into the pan.

One pizza trick is to sprinkle or rub cornmeal under the crust as you work it. This helps keep it from sticking, especially if you use a pizza stone.

I made the sauce, but you could use a canned sauce. You can use any toppings you like. If you pile the veggies high, you won't be disappointed! Bake 20-25 minutes or until dough is browning & crisp around edges.

The vegetables I included in this pizza were:

- sun-dried tomatoes (we dried them ourselves last year)
-artichoke hearts (canned)
-onions
-peppers
-mushrooms

Other good choices are broccoli, spinach, corn, and even potatoes. You can use just about any veggie in pizza. Some give off more water than others, though! An interesting combination is to use salsa instead of sauce, corn, onions, rinsed and drained black beans, and cheddar cheese.

We used vegan cheese, but you could use regular cheese.
