emoticon Carol!! I'm sure you made your leg weights too!!

emoticon KAYOTIC!! You see the importance of stretching.

It's been a habit to me to stretch for as long as I can remember. I'm always after my DH to stretch because he gets so stiff.

I think I did pretty good with yoga. This is something I will definitely keep doing. I love the relaxed, peaceful feeling I get afterwards!

Kim & MOUNTAIN_RAIN, How'd you guys do for the month?

I just keep getting more and more sore, so I really see the value of stretching. Probably wouldn't be able to move otherwise. I did get in a couple of yoga sessions this weekend, so that feels good, and just keeping at the stretching.

The vibrating machine is a platform, so you can do any exercise, but it vibrates while you do it, it's supposed to activate your muscles somehow. It's really nice for the stretching though, as it has a massage level for the vibrations...

Vibrating machine for calf stretches? Sounds lovely!

I stretch before and after exercising...but I'm older and if I don't, I get tight really, really quickly.

Today I reached my lifting weight goal for my arms, and I will go for it with my leg weights tomorrow.

Sometimes other things take priority, Rondarc, can't be helped! I think Dr visits fall into that category.

I did get in my second yoga stretch after my run yesterday, it was really nice out in the park.

Great job Kim!

I did get a stretch in after every workout, even with my trainer. I told him it was a goal of mine, so he helped me out! Yeah! Got in a much needed hamstring and calf stretch on this vibrating machine they have there.

I still only have the yoga from Monday, but if I can get one in today (the plan) I will be good on this week!

MounatinRain, I agree, it's great to see you jump in, and these challenges are not competetive!

I've been good about the stretching, but today I see my trainer, so I'll have to remember to hang out after and stretch it out! I think putting it in my mind now may help with that. I did do a yoga session on Monday, and got in a good stretch yesterday and Sunday after both workouts. This week I'm doing well with the challenge!

I just joined SparkPeople a couple days ago. So for the rest of September, the one thing that I'm going to strive to get better at is walking. emoticon

I'm challenging myself to walk 15 minutes a day. That seems like hardly anything compared to what people on this team walk/hike in a day, but that's ok. I'll catch up to the rest of you in a few months.

I got my stretch in yesterday after my elliptical workout, and I needed it.

Plan to do yoga today, hopefully I'll be able to fit it in between work and a meeting I have to attend...

CALGALFOX, You've got great upper body strength. I'm working on mine, it's been a slow process but getting better.

KAYOTIC, you'll get into a habit of stretching, just keep working on it!

I only got in 1 yoga last week. I can't believe it's so hard for me to this. Every time after I'm done I feel so much better and stress free! This week I'll do better.

Kayotic - I am lifting pretty heavy (for a girl), but I'm a distance swimmer, so my shoulders are heavily developed. You sit facing the weights, wedge your legs under a bar, reach up to the handles above your head and pull down (in front of you) until the handles are chest level, elbows back...make sense? It feels really good and it gives you more power in your catch for swimming.

I've been doing a little stretching in front of the TV. I did stretch at the gym after my cardio workouts, but I forgot after my workout with my trainer. It's just not my habit! (Yet!!) I remembered after I got home, and stretched a little then.

I did get in one early morning yoga yesterday, so one down, one to go for this week!

Last week, I got in 2 yoga sessions, one on Friday and then a short one on Saturday before family came over. So glad I got that one in, it helped me to not to stress too much LOL

This week, nothing yet, went camping and got back yesterday. Was hoping for today, but no such luck as of yet.

I need to do that too, more arm and shoulder exercises. my chiropractor said I need to strengthen up those delts and biceps, triceps to keep my muscles from pulling my neck out of adjustment. If that's not a good reason I don't know what is. I always seem to have a lot of tension in my neck and shoulders from my job. Anything to make it better. kim

What is an arm pull-down? that sounds like a lot of weight!

I have been AWOL from Spark until now, vacation, vacation recovery, etc. (see my blog for vacation details, one for Yosemite, one for the backpacking).

I'm going to re-up for the Sept challenge with a modified yoga challenge, twice a week, like our fearless leader, Rondarc, and 5 minutes of stretching after my gym workouts.

LOL - technology is great when it works.

I certainly plan to be at my goal by the end of the month...that's what goals are for : ) I'm on track for it as long as I don't overtrain.

Way to go CALGALFOX! Are you planning on being at your goal by the end of the month?

Well, I tried to do Yoga on Saturday. LOL I had an old yoga tape that I used all the time before so I popped it into my VCR, the VCR ate it and then broke it! So I figured I could watch a video on the computer. I found one I wanted to try and started it. While in a pose, the video froze. I waited for the video to start again and when it didn't I got up, went to the computer and it started! Hurried to get back into position went through a few more minutes and it froze again! Now I'm upset so I quit and took my frustrations out on the VCR. It's in the trash along with my tape. LOL. A DVD is on it's way and I also downloaded some podcasts to use in the meantime, as long as they don't freeze. emoticon

New week to start again. emoticon

Absinthe - Good for you!! You can do it!

GANDYWHITE - Hope all goes well with your MRI. I know how nerve racking those can be, been there! I like your healthy food challenge!

RWETHAIRYET - Have a good vacation! Good luck on changing your meal plans. It always helps to have a good variety!

Amanda - My weekends are normally packed with "other" stuff too, so I try to get out every weekday and walk. My DH (who's also my walking/hiking buddy) say's "it's the weekend, I don't want to exercise!" LOL

CALGALFOX - You make my head spin! LOL What a great strength challenge! Right now I consider myself lucky I can do 10# free weight's.

Good luck everybody and great challenges!! Let's keep everyone up to date on how we are doing, so post often!

My focus this month is on building more arm strength. To that end, my goal will be to reach 275 lbs on my pull-downs and 325 on leg presses.

hmmm...for this month?
I start on a weeks vacation when I leave work tonight. I think the one thing I want to get done is work out a better meal plan and get out of the ruts I get myself into..I tend to eat the same thing day in and day out and lately I'm struggling to get calories in at the end of the day instead of earlier when I should be eating.
So I think I'll work on setting up a monthly eating plan that I can rotate through...just for a little more variety in my diet.

We've had so many new members join in August, that I'm going to do the same challenge again.

For the month of September, name one thing you will strive to get better at and turn it into a healthy habit for life. It can be anything you want it to be, more exercise, more me time, etc.

I think I got my fruit and veggie thing under control, so I want to start on relaxing and learning how to control stress better.

I'm going to take some of KAYOTIC's August challenge for this month. I'm going to do yoga at least 2 times a week.

Now, for the rest of you, name your one thing and let's come back often and post on how we are doing. Good luck everyone!
